Wait Thomas, inquiring minds need to know, was it a skunk or the Amish Avon lady?

Poured first cup of coffee. 71° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 81° with thunderstorm in afternoon. Today may be the last day with 80° temperatures. See high temperatures in the 60's by end of next week. Everything outside is wet from yesterday's rain. Did paint the bracket for lifting net frame on Garden Pond Frame. Doctors appointment this morning. Then off to HD to pick up Island Cabinets. Maybe a stop at HF for a magnet to pick up metal shavings.

Framer, glad all the calves are coming without problems.

Don, the siren near our house sets on the edge of a Manufactured Home Park. Some of the homes are less than 50' from the siren. Last tornado to hit this area was in the 50's. About 1 miles west of us.

Prayers for those in need.

Good Morning All.

68 outside this AM. Heading to mid 80's. Those showers my VA friends down south of me are here. NOT expected this early, nor welcome. I had plans today for getting my "lawn" under control.

The run-in roof is all up. The bent piece went into the high corner, no one sees it. Except for me. I hate knowing where all the issues are. LOL. I used 350 screws thus far. Yep, counting. Nice straight lines too. Yep, started each one with a nail, banged through the metal. Each one set with sweat. LOL. Just need to finish up near the bottom edges. That was suppose to be today. Not happening as it is POURING now.

If I can cut about 9 sheets of t-111 in half, and screw it up, the horse side is done. Finished enough for them to be in it without getting into trouble.

Speaking of which, time to get the rain jacket on and head outside.

Hope all have a great weekend. Be safe.

Sorry the rain is messing up your plans. We are getting dumped on, too.

68 degrees for a low in the middle of the. night, 76 now and going for a high of 82. And we're under a flash flood watch today. Last night, the forecast was 100% chance of rain today, now down to 90%, but with 100% tomorrow, then 80, 60, 30% the rest of the weekend. In other words, the NWS should just say it MIGHT rain this weekend in some places. But so far, it's dry here.

a surprisingly chilly 60 degrees this morning, going up quickly.
Very few sirens here, but gosh during the hurricane, my phone kept going off time and time again
with public service announcements, shelter locations, sometimes every several hours.

lawn to mow today, lot of dew out, need to wait it out.
Once the cleaning ladies leave, might put some sealer down on driveway.

Sirens ahh yes we have those about every 2 miles here on the coast for tsunami warnings these are tested the 1st Monday of every month, the ham radio club go to each siren and monitor them as they are tested to make sure the CHIMES, VOICE, and LIGHTS work. Our sirens speak in both English and Spanish!! I guess the Strobe lights are for people with hearing problems.

Kind of cold this morning 28°. Today is going to be in the mid 70's and mostly sunny. They still don't show any rain for the coming week.

We got back from SLC late yesterday afternoon. It was nice to see the grandkids and the daughter.

I need to go back and see what I have missed the last few days.

Hope everyone has a good start to the weekend

Good morning to all! A low of 45 this morning, going to a high of 74... WooHoo! Fall is officially here tomorrow. The forecast has the highs being in the low and mid 70's for the whole week. A welcome relief.

Like RNG, I remember the 'nuke drills' every week in school. Had to get under the desks....like that was really going to help if it was real...I could never understand that. Then years later, those sirens were used to help alert the local volunteers for the fire department. Of course, this was before the technology of numeric pagers or other radio alerts.

In our area now, the sirens are still on top of the schools, some public buildings, and the old fire house. I have not heard them go off in the last 20 years. Don't know if they could even be activated.

Yea! Friday is here! Everyone have a great weekend. Prayers sent out to those needing.

Time to play with some grout....

70°F and rain this morning, going up to 83° today. Some of the rain I drove through this morning was almost too heavy for the wipers on high. Only lasted for a few miles, though.

Wife sent me pictures and a copy of the message she sent to the landscaper this morning, noting the water coming into the corner of our brand new walkout porch. We'd told him that was the reason to not direct any water in that direction. Even after we questioned the new slope of the ground, he assured us it wouldn't be a problem. So, guess who's coming back on Monday to regrade that non-problem. :muttering:

Speaking of the Avon lady ... I almost hit one on the road in front of our place a couple days ago. We'd been thinking it was living in the barn under the corn crib, but our neighbor said he saw it one evening coming out of the railroad tie pile behind the barn (left over from the old retaining wall that we're keeping to build a new shooting berm). Sure does stink up the barn on some days.

We have the warning sirens here, but I'm not sure if or when they are tested, and while one is within a mile of my house, I likely wouldn't hear it if I was inside.

And I guess I'd have to say that I've always been pretty outgoing. I don't think I ever got a report card in grade school without a comment "talks too much" penciled in. And when I'd been a police officer for about 3 years, one day my lieutenant told me, "When you come in tomorrow, report first to the assistant chief in the chief's office." So of course I did, and the assistant chief told me, "We're going to try something new. We've never done any recruiting, except a short ad in the newspaper, so we've decided to try some active recruiting and want someone who likes the job, looks sharp in uniform, and likes talking to people." So I became the police department's first recruiter. I was told I was being transferred to the Personnel Division and to report to the captain in that division, so the next morning, I went to see that captain and asked, "What am I supposed to do?" and he said, "That's for you to figure out, go find us some police applicants." So I did.

Great story Officer Bird! That explains why so many came to your birthday party that your daughter planned for you years ago.

Rip, Hard parent or "helicopter" parent? I've been told I'm helicopter dad....Not sure the difference. Just trying to keep kids safe and tutor them to make wise decisions when I'm not around.

So I work with a lot of highly educated people, mostly in the STEM areas of education. (science, technology, engineering and math) also biology..... Many of them are so introvertive, we have long hallways like "Get Smart" show, and they'll walk right past you without even saying Good Morning....But they have learned they can't usually get past me without saying something as I always try to greet them. Having smart people to learn from has been rewarding. Learning about technology too. I only wish I was younger so I could retain half of what goes by.... I was told early on at this job, that they have to put their pants on 1 leg at a time.

THE GREAT AMERICAN VANAGON TOUR
COMING SOON TO A TOWN NEAR YOU!!!

RNG, make sure you can fold down the handlebars and get that beemer in the back of the vanagon somehow.

Farmer, if you keep up, you might have to change your "handle" to rancher.

P. U. I hate skunks.

Off today, going to take lunch to our middle daughter at school. Need to do a few chores first.

Have a great day all, and prayers!

The receiver hitch motorcycle carrier is only good for 450 pounds, Kyle, and the Beemers are a bit too portly for it. That spot'll have either a Yamaha XT225 or the Honda Trail 90 in it.

Which reminds me, I can report that the aluminum bumpers that I've been chasing for many:confused2: months are supposed to ship next week. I must have a knack for finding eccentric geniuses that are also very, very bad at business.

And since were on the topic of the Vanagon, the mechanic let me know yesterday that the only shop in town he'll use for alignment purposes can't get to it until Monday. And that he's seeing an unusual wear pattern on the front tire treads. Soooooo, no van pickup this week after all. Just as well, as the window of mild temperatures is closing before I could get the prep work done for the paint job, but will open again by the end of next week.

Good Morning!!!! 69F @ 8:00AM. Sunny. High 88F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

I always wondered what I'd do if a skunk ever got caught in the Have-A-Heart. Thanks, fellas! I could use some help understanding the Avon Lady connection though, Thomas!:confused2:

Glad you're finished with that roof and down off the ladder, Wng. Them things is dangerous!

I was delighted and more than a little surprised when I plugged the reconfigured switch cluster into the old motorcycle yesterday and everything worked as it should. Figgered since I was on something of an electrical roll, I'd take another shot at getting the 17" Mac running again. Re-formatted the SDD again, installed a fresh copy of the OS, but it still wouldn't boot off it when I used the USB interface. Put the drive back inside it, printed the username/password and some symptoms on sticky notes stuck to the keyboard, and put the back cover on, all set to go to the repair shop. Just for kicks tried to boot it again and miracle of miracles, it came up. Used it a couple times through the day, and now this morning, and seems fine again. Gonna clone that drive to an external USB in case it goes schitzoid again.

All that was good, but the best part of the day was when the new parts guy called and told me the cables I ordered Tuesday were in. Gave me an excuse to take a motorcycle ride down to pick them up. And to figure out how the GoPro camera worked. Took a while to get it going, and it was a bit warm outside in full leathers, but it was a fun ride none-the-less. Came back on the old Honeyrun Road, right by the covered bridge, a nice, shady, twisty, and narrow country lane. Nice way to finish up the day.

Hope the luck holds today as well. For all of you, too!

TGIF gang!:drink:
