I'm just skimming a few of the pictures taken to give you guys the gist of what's going on. I take many more to make sure I have something to fall back on when it comes time to put it all back together, and a lot of them are close ups that you really wouldn't know what they were without the overall shots to provide context. The one above, for example, shows how two of the the shift fork ends engage the shift cam, and also how the shift detent roller gives that "feel" when the the roller drops into a dip as transmission drops into the different gears. Thirty-seven years is still old in terms of motorcycle evolution, Kyle, people that know about such things call this one a Classic. The blue one was a 1963, and at 55 years old, is known as Vintage. These two motorcycles have much in common, but the '81 has many refinements to make them more reliable, enduring, and easier to maintain. Part of today's fun will be to do some polishing on the shift forks and cams for smoother action. I have an engine parked on my 2'x3' granite surface plate, and being the lazy SOB I am, I'll just use a small piece of 1/4" thick window glass on the welding table for a flat. When you say "wax", are you referring to Dykem layout fluid or maybe Prussian Blue?

wax on, wax off, referring to the figure 8 motion I use to lap my parts on a sheet of sandpaper on top of a cheap granite surface plate.

Back in house. Got the stump removed. Another 5’ of retaining bricks pull up. That’s another days project.
Installed a smart deadbolt on back door. First one I bought was Kwikset Kevo. Lasted about 3 cycles. Then Jammed up and never could fix it. Took it back and got a August Smart Lock. Took awhile to get App working. But install went good. Wife is happy. All she has to do is open APP and press button to lock and unlock door. Can be done from garage 50’ away.

What! No back and forth, who will win - tractor or stump, days of digging and tractor tilting. You did that way too fast.

Bird, thanks for the heads up on winding to arrow orientation.

Another 100+ day, arrrg.

Totals for our two fundraisers yesterday from the two car clubs I belong to was $2300 for Homes for Heroes and $2700 got the National Brain Tumor Research Assoc.
Had a great time at both events but failed to win the Hawaiian shirt or best body contest.
Hope you all had a great weekend. Prayers guys.

The NWS says we have 78 degrees this morning, going for a high of 101 with a 30% chance of rain today, 40% tonight, and 60% tomorrow.

102 degrees right now, and the NWS has started backpedaling. Now it's just 20% today and tonight. And there's sure no sign of anything coming. They still haven't removed the 60% chance for tomorrow though. Lawns can die, and maybe come back. But I've heard that you should water around these slab foundation homes to prevent the slab from cracking. I've done a little of that, but I had a couple of plastic sprinkler hoses of the flat type that you can use as a sprinkler, or turn them over for a soaker. I'm not sure how old they were but they both sprung leaks, so they're now in the garbage for tomorrow and I went to Home Depot and bought 3 50' soaker hoses and by the time I got them set in place, hoses hooked up, etc. to turn the water on first thing in the morning (if it ain't raining), I was soaking wet and dripping perspiration. I hate hot weather.

I have to admit. Taking pics with my iPhone just maybe be the best QC I’ve stumbled upon. If the put together pieces resemble the before pics my confidence level is up.

Wife convinced me we ought to treat ourselves out for brunch. While I’m usually 50-50 on this primarily due to price, I tend to act in favor of spousal points. Glad I did. Seems since our last visit they decided to add Lobster claws to menu. Being a good Maine boy, I managed to overlook that most likely they have been in the freezer just a short time before. The cold were better than the hot, but that’s OK. Not ashamed to say that just on the Lobster we ate the profit margin was mighty slim if it even existed.
