Went golfing with my oldest son, only his 2nd time. Was a great time together, and i had a great game, considering only my 2nd time this yr, and probably only 3rd time in 5 yrs. Had 5 pars, rimmed out a birdie, not this one... 0707181514a.jpeg

Looks like dinner.

More adjustments on the run in. The 4x4 posts have not done well. Sigh.

Many people use 6x6's for just that reason. I have used 4x4's and put a plate on them quick to hold them. I have also twisted them with a can't hook. Ed

Dump run was done, got the lawn mowed and dropped one of the trees I wanted down. Then the chain came off the bar...******! I'll mess with that tomorrow.
Did mow part of the field, then swapped over to the chipper. I really like the Woodmaxx chipper, however the PTO drive shaft is the biggest PITA to hook up (tractor end)...never had this much of a hassle with with any other drive shaft.

Good evening all. 76F for the start, mostly clear, calm wind. We are in summer time wind pattern, wind maxing out at 10-15 mph, high temp 96F. Bike ride this morning, got back in time to see finish of Stage 1 of the Tour de France. Nap and wife time. Still trying to get sonar turned back on fish finder. :ashamed::confused2::mad:
Don, don't fit in any of their groups, ride speed is 15-17 and typical distance is 20 miles when not prepping for multi day ride. 2010 was getting back into biking started 10 mils a day 3 days a week. Increase as legs/stamina tolerate.
RNG, nice sunset!
Jay hope you get A/C soon
Prayers for all.

Good evening! Nice this morning at 48, only went up to around 82. Only one cloud in the sky this morning at around 8:30.

I was prepared to work on putting some more sections of the picket fence in, but got sidetracked by the wifey to transplant some lilac shrubs into bigger containers. After that, as we were proceeding to the fence project, we got sidetracked by the neighbor. We sat on the tractor talking to her for about an hour. By 11:00, clouds rolled in and a storm way off in the distance. Got 4 posts set and then the lightning/thunder started....time to get out of the field.

Well, as so many times here, it was a "dry" thunderstorm. Just noise and wind. Went to the garage to get the tractor out...starts storming again. This time we had an 8" rain....out here that means one rain drop every 8 inches....that's about it. Enough to put dirty drops on the cars. This went on for about an hour...I gave up on the fence for today. Going to get a fresh start in the AM.

Glad to hear that most of you guys are having cooler weather.

Drew, glad your friend is doing ok.

Don, make sure you don't hurt anything while spinning...might be using muscles that aren't used to it.

Mostly, enjoy the boat, congrats on the maiden voyage!

Ed, make sure you post some pics of the loom project...sounds like a neat project.

Jay, I Hope that the a/c gets fixed as scheduled. Your lucky that Mother Nature is cooperating at least a little bit!

RNG, stay cool and hopefully out of harms way. Some of those fires are nasty! Absolutely a shame that some beautiful houses were lost.

Everyone have a great night. Thoughts and prayers out for all.

What kind of fish, Eric? It's been many, many years since I used corn to fish for members of the perch family.

Bird, I put the kettle on after tea last night and then read your post while waiting for it to boil. At that point I thought it my duty to try and get a couple of pics, so I left my wife to fill the teapot while I went out for an hour of fishing before dusk.

Roach.jpg Tench.jpg

The little one on the left is what we call a roach (biologists know them as Rutilus rutilus). They don't grow that big, most people, including me, have not caught one over the magic 2lb mark, but they are great fun for kids of all ages to catch. This is probably the first offspring of the ones I stocked the pond with a few years ago, so there will be bigger ones out there ...

The one on the right is a tench (Tinca Tinca). It is quite exciting to suddenly see a stream of small bubbles break the surface as one or more close in to find the sweet corn that has dropped to the bottom of the pond. On light tackle these will put a good bend in a rod and can take a while to bring to the landing net. Their skin is very smooth and it was once widely thought the fish had medicinal properties, with people binding it to their bodies in an attempt to heal sores !

Well that's 2 of the 3 species of fish I stocked the pond with a few years ago, the 3rd didn't want to be caught, I will have to tell you about that one another day. There is more about the pond in this old thread - it's a bit rambling, so only read it if you are ready for a nap :) https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/projects/337516-alien-invasion-i-want-my.html

Good morning. They say it will not go above 26C/79F today with a light wind and all day sun. I'm doing better each day in the heat and now getting a few jobs done providing they are mostly in the shade. Yesterday with the ride on mower still away for repair, I thought it time to look at the old Hayter push mower that hadn't run for many years. Took the tank and carb off to clean them out and then sharpened the blade. Started on second pull and with the grass hardly growing in these hot dry conditions I had the lawn tidied up within twenty minutes.

LS, LOL, you had me there as soon as I read you had 8" of rain, I thought you were going to be flooded out

David, thanks for sharing the earth bubbling up liquid rock and then those shots of running water, all on the same flight. Stunning.

Good morning all, 52 this morning going to 79 with patchy fog then sunny. Fog is rising off of the swimming pool this morning, first time I have noticed that. Got the grass mowed yesterday and that was about it. Hope to get out to the shop some today, will see.

David, WOW! great pics, once in a lifetime flight.

Eric, you are right, any fish is fun to catch. I grew up fishing the rivers, James and Rivanna, in central Va, some lakes too. There we caught fish up to about 10 lb with the odd chance of a fish going up to 20 or so. Still spent many days with light rod fishing for perch.

Have a great day, prayers sent for healing and rain. Ed

53 and clear, going up to a relatively cool 80 for July. Nice.

David, great contrast between the lava flow and the waterfalls. Look like your 4some had a great time. Did you get to fly over your house? I think I just figured out where the name Sodamo comes from.

Ed, fished a good bit of the James, too, mostly between Wingina and Richmond.

Bush hogged about 5 acres yesterday...felt good with the north wind and temps in the upper 70s.

cooler morning, 67 out going up to low 80's, breezy day, should be lovely

Roy, not only are the pto shafts a PITA to work with, but impossible to get the thing on without getting covered in grease.
There just has to be a better way.

David, amazing pictures, just amazing. I bet you 'll be talking about that for days.

MFW/david, how are all your girls? Kids must really be growing up now

Probably going to work on weedeaters and mower blades today, and going to pick my first melon this afternoon, will share it with my neighbor and his family. Not like I can eat a whole melon before it goes bad. It weighs at least five pounds. Will take some pics when sliced open. Hard figuring out when they are ripe. Yes they thump "hollow" but has the color on the spot underneath turned properly, got a lot of advice here, helpful, since I've never grown melons. Figure they must like to be watered, otherwise how could a plant grow half a dozen big melons on it without getting a lot of water from somewhere.

A Hayter mower, too wonderful.

The &*%%$@@!! won't start again!

I hayter!

Now Eric, let's find a mower called the Love Machine. It will take you right back to the 60s. :D

Drinking first cup of coffee. 48° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 86° with sunny skies. Got barn cleaned up where old chipper was setting. Going to fill utility trailer with scrap metal. That I will haul to scrap yard tomorrow on Tuesday. Then sit back and enjoy the low humidity weather.

RNG and David S, great videos and pictures.

LS, 8" of rain. Turns dust to mud. Car wash owners love that kind of rain. :D

Roy & Drew, must be a problem with your PTO shafts. Mine is easy enough to do. Even with my bad right arm.

Eric, fishing and bad acting mowers. Stick to fishing.

Mostly hope you get fish finder working properly.

Prayers for all those in need.

Good Morning All.

Just google - "tendril ripe mellon"
to determine ripeness youtube

A roach and a tench; names I'd never heard for fish. And I don't recognize them as being exactly the same an any of our fish. Very interesting; thanks for the information.

75 degrees this morning, going for a high of 93 with a 30% chance of rain. Yesterday evening, the Denton Airport, 10 miles from here, got .23" of rain, but it didn't get here.

   / Good morning!!!! #78,480
Thanks Don!

Observe the tendril, a small curly stem (pigtail) on the watermelon vine directly opposite the point where the melon is attached to the vine. When the melon ripens, this tendril dries and turns brown or gray. ... As the melon ripens the spot develops a cream or yellowish color. This indicates ripeness.
