Long day, and glad to be home!

On the way home, I thought I'd stop at Yankee Candle (Deerefield MA) to pick up something for my wife and stepdaughter. Neat place! We'll go back and do more exploring. It had been a long day and I was getting a bit tired (still had 100 miles to go before I got home), so I picked up a couple candle, a wind chime (I love wind chimes) and a couple other odds and ends.

Going to be an early night for this ol' boy!!

I was on my feet for 8 hours today, most of that planting. Last five hours was pushing a Earthway seeder up and down those rows. And then raking them all by hand since the seeder didn't get the seeds low enough consistently; I'd find the seed on top. In this soft soil, some you can just push in with your finger but I wound up doing quite a bit of raking today. Got all the non GMO corn planted. Still have two pounds of corn to go, maybe do that next week. They predict a pretty severe thunderstorm here tomorrow afternoon and I have visions of all my corn washing away so glad I took the time to get some extra soil on top. Unlike my beets and carrots which totally washed away three weeks ago. I reordered a few more packages of beets and carrots, but not as much as before. When I plant them I guess I'll have to put straw down on top for the first week.

Chatted with head of Food Bank, made an appt to go see them tomorrow along with my three one gallons ziploc bags of pak choy.
Carnage in the garden.
It's going to be brutal, off go their heads. And everything else too! ;)
I probably have about 150-175 of the pak choy and an unimpressive 49 traditional cabbages.

I planted another tray of "fancy beans" today and cheated with a few tomato plants from the feed store.
Normally I don't grow cherry tomatoes but they had a dark variety I wanted to try. Most of the tomatoes I'm growing, or attempting to grow,
are the darker varieties.

Also flung 400 pounds of triple 10 on the corn fields and my neighbor's personal garden area, which I had already tilled.
Then had to clean and air blast dry the flinger.

no wonder I'm tired... time for a nap before dinner.
Hard work makes you tired but makes you feel good at the same time, yes? Reading your 10.10.10 comment reminds me you were looking for a better price...saw it at Walmart yesterday for $9.92 for 40lbs.

I remember when Yankee Candle opened a store in Williamsburg...went inside and saw they had a room where they made real snow fall from the ceiling.

The guy who started Yankee Candle started off in a garage near Holyoke. I met him back then...... A nice guy with to me a "strange concept." Obviously his "concept" worked. He treated his employees really well. You should have seen his sports car museum.:cool:

Roy- Berkshire Brewing Company is nearby and is an internationally recognized brewery for many of their beer/ale styles...... Don't go there. ;).

There are far too many microbreweries around here due to the water quality (pH, minerals, ?). Some of the scummiest (Mill) water has some of the best combination of pH and water contents.

Dinner is mostly used in the South of this country for the evening meal. There they call their mid-day meal "lunch".

Those names may be recognised by the rest of us, however people raised in the North have different names for our meals. Our "dinner" is eaten mid-day and our evening meal is called "tea" (regardless of what you drink). A meal or snack eaten late in the evening is a supper.

Both North & South agree that the first meal of the day is called breakfast and few things are tastier (or artery clogging ?) than a "Full English Breakfast".
How to Make Breakfast Like a Brit - Anglophenia Ep 32 - YouTube Don, don't worry, I'm only eating cereals :)

OK, so when I was a kid, and believe me, we lived in the South South, we called lunch dinner and late meal supper. I too, always thought English tea was mid afternoon. Kind of a pick-me-up.

Weather is overcast and cool, but warming through the day.

Ellen just sent me a link to Humble Pie’s 30 Days In The Hole! I need clarification.

That was one of my favorite songs way back when.

After a thorough study, I ended up buying a Mantis tiller with the Honda engine. I kept hearing about the newer 2 strokes having trouble starting after sitting for a while. Even the Stihl and Echo. I'm not sure about the handle bar ergonomics yet. It has plenty of power from the 25cc/1.5 cu inch engine. It likes to hop and gets into a resonant hopping mode...Maybe I need more practice. The tines can be reverse mounted for more aggressive action.

Good evening all. 66F for the start, windy, overcast. Breaks in the overcast mid- morning, then back to solid overcast with frontal passage and clearing mid afternoon. Wind slowed a bit during frontal passage, then picked up again. High temp was 78F at noon and has been dropping balance of the day. Today was cleaning lady day which means clean up so she can clean :) . Then a bike ride in the wind, and some consulting at work, then take doggie ( dog sitting for stepdaughter) for walk, he ran almost the entire way (unusual for him typically just run after squirels and other "vermin").

Ed, my condolences on your mom, prayer for the family.

Jay congrats on your new addition, may you bring each other joy.

Randy I understand why the Humble Pie link baffels you, I don't get it either :confused2::eek:

Drew, sounds like garden is really cumming along. Makes me tire just reading what you do.

Eric thanks for the English breakfast link, gotta take two pills tonight after watching that!

I lived in London and Aberdeen, Scotland, in the 1970’s, making oil and gas great, and spent lots of time in the UK since then, on business and pleasure. Full English Breakfasts are hard to beat. Eggs over easy, bacon, sausages, beans, mushrooms, orange juice, coffee. . When I lived and spent time in SE Asia, most of the hotels in Singapore, S. Korea etc., most of the better Hotels served same. Yumm!

Sorry Don!

Memories!

35 right now...high in the low 50's and 100% probability of rain.
Boy...long day yesterday...I could easily sleep a few more hours...

67 going to 68 with strong winds up to 30,and maybe rain.

Eric, except for you, it seems unanimous... English Tea Time is 2pm :).

Bush hogged 5 acres yesterday...only saw 1 rabbit, and 3 empty shotgun shells from dove season...need to go back and retrieve them. Also found two holes where I removed rocks last time and must have forgotten to fill them in with dirt. Have a few more acres to do, but too windy today.

I need get some diesel and to make a dump run today after going to the gym. Wife is heading over towards Costco for allergy shots, and may want me to accompany her, which usually means Tex-Mex.

Eric, except for you, it seems unanimous... English Tea Time is 2pm :).

That goes back to when Victorian ladies with nothing better to do visited one another to drink tea, eat cake and nibble the occasional delicate sandwich.

Oh, do you all dress up like this to drink your tea at 2pm ? :)

Back then the factory workers in the increasingly industrialised North of England had other things to occupy their time in the afternoons. After returning from work they were ready for another meal and as tea leaves became more affordable to all, they came home to "have their tea".

Good morning. It's traditional "April showers" weather here today, only without much chance of rainbows between showers as the sun is still reluctant to put in an appearance.

Last night I had a shock when my son sent me a picture of some bar stools he was assembling and asked if I had any idea why the nuts were too tight to spin on. The blue ring at the top showed they were obviously nyloc lock nuts. How could I have let my son grow into an adult without making him aware of such things ? What other fundamentals of life have I failed to show him ? I'm a bad dad. :ashamed:

strangely warm 67 here, Buppies is sending those winds over to me, expect 20-30mph winds today in thunderstorms. Good day to stay inside, though first a run downtown with a fresh picked bucket of pak choy for the food bank. This first batch will be for the help; they only distribute on Tuesdays so my calendar will now be Sunday and Monday pickings for delivery on Monday.

could hardly turn my neck this morning it was so sore. My soft collar gets so hot on my neck after a few hours working outside I have to ditch it, which is much cooler but then I pay for it next day. Heating pad on neck doing its job.

Lawn is starting to green up here. Will be mowing soon.

Mostly, cleaning up for the cleaning ladies, yeah it takes me forever, as I make piles of things here and there. They come every two weeks for me though I often delay to a third week if the house isn't too dirty and I have run the sweeper and mop. Coming in from outside now is like detoxing from a danger zone, covered in yellow pine pollen that I try not to track through the house. Clothes in washer, me headed to shower, repeat.

Yesterday I was out just as the sun was coming up. Lovely time of day. Going to be out picking cabbages as the sun comes up this morning.
Sure hope the beans don't get blown over today, though I am thoroughly impressed with how tough and woody a bean stalk is

Good morning all. I'll take any English Breakfast as long as they don't serve it with blood pudding. That really grossed me out once in a pub outside London. I thought I was in Nairobi or somewhere...
