BEF- Congratulations on your new Forester. I hope you many uneventful and boring miles together.

We went through the "tutorial" and picked ours up this PM. We ran through a snow squall on the way home that covered the highway with ~1" and it handled as expected. I like those steering activated headlights and fog lamps. Heavy fog, rain, and snow can throw off the gizmo sensors, but it did not happen with what we experienced. Wifey drove which did not exactly help my BP.

Before we left we had some visitors. Mixed gender(?) a couple of small beards, lots of buttons, lots of jostling at the feeders.

We hated to scared them. They may fly @ 45mph, but they can not run @ 35mph in this snow. Lot's of bottom bumping taking off and/or running. It always amazes me how these big birds can roost on branches thinner than a finger.

I used to hunt turkeys and the more you are around them the more you are impressed. If they want they can just jump into the air and fly away and without the snow run like a deer but they will run so that they are behind a tree or something and then go straight away from you. and the rather plain looking bird has some very beautiful feathers with incandescent colors shimmering through them. Ben Franklin wanted to make the wild turkey the national bird. And no dumb turkey jokes those birds are smart, the tame ones are dumb. Ed

Good morning all. Looking like this will be a wet day for us, following on from a wet night. It came over yesterday afternoon, but I didn't get too wet at first as I was standing in a dry place when it started - the old underground water tank that I'm trying to bring back into use. I was there plugging the outlet pipe with a bung I'd made from a piece of alder. Anyone sensible would have gone out and bought a proper pipe fitting for little money, however my eye had caught sight of this piece of wood that looked just right and I couldn't resist the temptation to try and do this tank project mostly with what is already lying around. The tree it came from had been felled for firewood last year and after cutting a length out from the small branch I could see it was still nicely free of shakes. With the bark off it was 1/2" larger in diameter than the inside of the pipe, so I had spent a happy half hour the night before planing, then sanding, to make it tapered. When I got down inside the tank, the bung slid in the pipe easily with a few persuasive taps from a mallet. Rain soaked me as soon as I got out of the tank, but I didn't care, it's strange how sometimes simple things and the thought of what to do next can be so satisfying.

Next I need to find out how good the tank is at holding water. There is plenty of it at the moment in a pond a couple of hundred yards away, however it would be unfair to ask my little 12V dc bilge pump to attempt to fill such a big tank. I have a friend with a 110V pump that I'm sure he will lend me, so I just need to find a way to feed it with a few amps. Another friend gave me a 2.8KW generator a year or two ago that I've done nothing with, apart from confirm that it doesn't work, so trying to get that running is the next bit of fun.

Bird, great story - tell us another one soon.

Poured first cup of coffee. 15° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 35° with partly cloudy skies. Off to Sams club this morning. Hope it goes better than yesterdays $150 Costco trip. Stopped at TSC and took advantage of 10% coupon to buy another 100 lbs of bird feed. That make 350 lbs so far this winter. No other plans for today.

Jay and Buckeye, nice cars.

Ed glad your mom and wife are feeling better. Prayers for them.

Prayers for those in need. Sending extra paryers to Karen and Eddie.

Good Morning All.

Is the geometry wrong for a siphon?

Good Morning!!!! 51F ! 4:15AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 61F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph.

Subarus seem to be taking over the Good Morning!!!! thread! I wonder how many whole cars have been built since my mechanic started monkeying with the engine that will some year power my Vanagon? No word yesterday on his meeting with the machinist, just another in a long line of broken commitments...

The solid state charging system installed on the old motorcycle has a problem with the rectifier regulator unit: It's drawing enough current on its output leads to create a nice spark when they are touched to the battery terminal. The US importer says he's never seen that before, so here we go again.

Hope everyone enjoys a nice weekend!

Good morning! 65˚ cloudy. Today I'll try to get the potatoes in the ground, only three weeks late. I'll leave some room for Okra. Learned something new today - Okra is a considered a legume.

Here is another new fact of the day from Julieanne Hever's book "Idiots Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition". (second edition) (She held cooking classes on the Cruise.)

"In one clinical study, a single serving of Brazil nuts (20 grams or approximately 4 nuts), significantly lowered LDL-c ("bad" cholesterol) and raised HDL-c ("good" cholesterol) within 9 hours of consumption, and these new levels remained for 30 days."

30 and cloudy going to 50.

Our weather forecast for Sunday/Monday has sure bounced around...one guy saying maybe 18 inches of snow, another saying one inch.

Thanks guys for feedback on mowers...I took notes and have some new manufacturers to check out.

RNG, thanks for the Roomba info.

J and BEF, congrats on the new Subes. I bet you'll gets many years of enjoyment from them.

Nice gang of turkeys, J...always nice to see them.

Bird, thank for sharing that great story.

Eric, I know that special feeling associated with simple things and accomplishment.

Don, thanks for sharing the brazil nut info. We buy mixed nuts from Costco, but I usually only eat one brazil nut since I had heard they have so much selenium. I could definitely use something that tasty to improve cholesterol.

I am tired and sore today from running the chainsaw and carrying firewood for 5 hours yesterday. I limbed this tree, but wanted to pull it out of a thick area where I felled it. The only direction was uphill, so wasn't sure my tractor and grapple would work. It was 22 inches and over 60 feet tall, but I cut off about 25 feet in the field while limbing. The teeth on the grapple took hold, and 4WD did the trick backing uphill. Now I can get the grapple up to each of the bigger rounds that I cut.

20 with a forecast high of 30. Wind NNW 12 gusting to 18 mph, and 40% chance of flurries.
We got a couple of inches overnight. I will deal with that later.

Update regarding the two game cameras....Nothing...They have recorded nothing, and yet they are set in places where I know they are getting activity because they cover my tractor shed and my driveway. So down they come today and I will go over the settings inside and try again.

Have a safe day all

This article on Brazil nuts cautions that they are also high in saturated fat. So it's two edged sword. Did your source cite the study that found such startling benefits, Don?

It also looks like Brazil nuts are high in oxalate, not good if you're prone to kidney stones.

60 degrees going for a high of 81 today. I started working on the lawns yesterday, doing some dethatching with the Mantis tiller dethatching attachment, and mowing with the bagger. I also made one small error and fell on the concrete steps at the back of the shop and did a back flip off there onto the grass. As I was falling, I was thinking "sure hope nothing breaks." So I was so terribly tired and sore that I went to bed at 5 p.m. yesterday, moved from the bed to my recliner about 2 a.m. this morning, then slept until after 5 a.m. And surprisingly enough, almost no soreness this morning, so I better get out there and get back to work on the yard. I did the front yesterday, now need to work on the backyard.

LS, you致e described how worker痴 compensation has worked for 45 years that I know of. If you are observed by the wrong people working on your project you will lose any shot at collecting from work for your injury, regardless of circumstances. My wife was regional medical supervisor for two large corporations and I can tell you you壇 better walk softly on this.

LS- I agree with Randy.

I had no real problems other than the process with past work related disability claims for work related broken bones and the auto-immune stuff, but years ago an insurance company hired private detectives to follow me about a back injury sustained in a rear-ender vehicular accident in which I was a passenger. All I wanted was payment for my medical expenses related to the accident. I was able to work and these jerks were taking pictures of me from the parking lot at work. I saw unfamiliar "human" tracks in the snow around my house that occurred while I was at work, and I saw them taking pictures of me while I was home from off the property. They screwed up bad mouthing while "investigating" me at the local post office where one of the postal workers was also LE and he put a tracer on them and found out who they were. It did not end so well for those "dicks" and also the insurance company once I retained a lawyer.

Thanks for the new car wishes.

I am happy to read that the Mom's and wife are doing better.

Bird- I am happy to read that you did not sustain any serious injuries from you fall.

After the dump run I really need to dig out the firewood stacked outside and start moving firewood around today.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all.

I hope everyone has a decent and relaxing day.

I've found that just using the phone's web browser is good enough. The TBN app, at least for the iPhone, is outdated and hasn't been updated in years.

I’m using the Tapatalk app on my iPad and it works pretty well IMO. Plus you can link to many other forums thru it..
