Toppop- I was thinking of you when I saw this blue flower at Villas Calettas. I hope they help regenerate more pleasant memories.

We stopped at the Tarcoles River Bridge. It was crowded with touristas and the locals as well. They do not have dead chicken chum here anymore, but those crocs will investigate anything that falls off the bridge. The biggest, meanest, and most dominant croc is called "Mike Tyson" by the locals, and I believe the biggest female croc is called "Lady Gaga.":cool: There is also another croc now called Donald Trump. I have no real clue as to his position in the croc hierarchy, but it is not one of the dominant males (maybe it's the little claws?). I saw this cross down on the shore near the crocs. I thought that it may be a marker for some loco who fed himself to the crocs, but on picture review it may be a sprouting coconut.

We made it to San Jose without getting lost and within normal travel time parameters. The highways are pretty decent (4 lane mostly) and there is decent signage. A lot of tolls = PITA. Exiting tolls anywhere is always a pedal to the medal event. The Tuscon held its own.

Back in CT tomorrow (late night arrival). Then home and back to my boring and picture-less existence.

And the Saint Bernard(s) quest begins.

I am so saddened by another mass shooting; especially the public schools. Costa Rica seems safer and safer despite the poverty. :(

My prayers, +thoughts and wishes for all affected by this most recent violence, and those - impacted by sickness, aging, and daily living challenges.

Having read the police reports of the past few school shootings I'm coming to the conclusion that the extensive press coverage is adding to the problem. Seems every one of these sickos has researched past shootings before going on their own rampage. I'm thinking it should be prohibited for anything to be released about these mass shootings other than that it occurred. These sick bastards are looking to see their name all over the news, that's how they get their jollies! Does the public's right to know all the details of the sicko's life outweigh all the deaths of these innocent kids??

45 here today got the tractor back from the dealer(50 hr service). The ground is so soft and wet I tore up the lawn getting it back into the garage. We’re supposed to be frozen around here till April.

^^^^^^^ I agree about the "sicko bastard" part and news sensationalizing these events and violence in general. The entertainment industry (movies, TV and video games) does not help with its glorification and sexualization of violence which compounds the problem(s). Developing young minds suck this BS up; some older seemingly more mature minds do as well. I've seen it clinically :(

There will always be some "copycatting" by "sickos."

It's a complex problem with no easy "fixes."

Things will not change until our society wants things to change and there will still not be any easy and quick fixes which appears to be what a lot of people want.

iThingie weather widget says it's 80° here in St. Louis right now. If that's true, then we've shattered the old record for the day of 75°. Looks like most of the rain has scooted north of us, too. Now I'm really ticked about all of my golf buddies (except me) playing golf hookie today. (sigh)

I have mixed emotions about that idea, de71. I agree that the media coverage does seem to fuel some of these tragedies. However, as a strong proponent of the Constitution, I would find it hard to impose limits on what the press can and cannot cover. They absolutely should exercise some restraint on their own, if for nothing else than common decency. As for the perpetrators of these crimes, I am in the habit of never speaking or writing their names, for my part anyway.

Well posted. If common decency with news reporting negatively impacts on ratings it will not happen nowadays. This is a societal challenge.

Many/most(?) of these perps do seem to have attension seeking as a primary motivating force for their behaviors. Inattention to perp identity would help. How to do so makes me think of what Totalitarian governments would do.

As you said, it's a complex problem with no easy fixes. I imagine most of us have some opinions as to the cause and the best "fix". So my opinion, for what it's worth:eek:, is that our court system is ONE of the problems; perhaps the biggest one. I remember being taught many years ago that it isn't the "severity" of punishment as much as the "certainty" of punishment that prevents crime. But the person who committed this crime certainly has no certainty of being executed, and in fact, I would expect him to spend many, many years in prison with the tax payers supporting him and providing all but one of his needs.

It's sad that some people want a lifelong "free ride" from the government. It's even sadder that some individuals consider 3 hots and cot and maybe a even a potential new "friend" as their life ambition.

In the adolescent mind they are invulnerable. It's seems to be a function of their yet to be fully developed "wiring." Media games and fantasy movies seem to reinforce this delusion.
