Good morning! 27˚ heading to 47˚ sunny.
I finished the initial cleanup of the garage and tractor shed and heading to the once every three months free dumpster in town. Got about 20 large bags of non-burnable "stuff" from christmas tree lights that don't work to Pvc valves that are stuck to cracked plastic containers to broke warranty items to expensive to repair so they replaced them to tarps with holes etc. etc. . . . you get the picture.

Now I need to sell cheap my paver/tile cutter, my rock paver manual breaker, my tamping machine (with new Honda motor), my Millwalkee metal saw on stand, Tractor roller, cultivator, ratchet rake, etc etc . . .

Good to hear from you, riptides...glad you are home.

Just had snow showers....temp has dropped 20 degrees since I got up.

Always a good day when my temps are higher than texas, except theirs is going up, and mine still falling.

Don, keep that paver cutter for when you come up and help me on my drive. And a ratchet rake, you are getting rid if some toys.

Actually, i need to sell some things, like a truck cap, gokart, cultivator, wheelhorse mower, lawn cart...

And get rid of a ton of junk like a pile of old shoplights, huge commercial copier, broken microwave, treadmill, old ac units, old ductwork, old oil tanks,etc....

Trying to nail down the hive issue. I see its a side effect of simvastatin. I have used this particular mfr before, but just started recently when i switched pharmacy. Hands are still itching. Tonight i will skip it, see how that goes. Won't hurt to miss a day.

Good Morning!!!! 45F @ 7:00AM. Areas of dense morning fog. Partly cloudy. High 61F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Glad to hear you and yours are back and the trip home went smoothly, Rip. You have a big job on your hands taking care of the wife and the farm! Little by little, though, things will get better, the weather will get warmer, and it won't be so hard. In the meantime, though, a Google search for local adult services might turn up someone who could help with shopping, or spell you while you get out for a while. Caregiving is tough work, and there's help out there if you look.

Hope you get the meds figured out soon, Buckeye. Hives are no fun.

Wish you lived closer, Don. I'm thinking about some paver projects, and those extra tools you have would be a big help.

If anyone here ever wants a nice break from the demands of daily living, 3 "hots" and a cot, a "soothing" pastel (puke) colored environment, and free entertainment with episodic daily floorshows from those "free spirits" who suddenly feel "liberated," I have the secret "mantra" to give you all the "vacation time" necessary. All one needs to do is to confide "certain statements" with the admitting "professionals." Later, if one is "well behaved" they can get "grounds privileges."

All this talk of insane asylums, and regular police log posts about nut jobs acting out in public around here, had me awaking to a nightmare this morning. Somehow I was being inducted into a mental institution. It was late evening, bedtime in fact. I was shown a rough ramp leading down into a black hole, with straw on the floor and voices coming up the ramp, and told to go down there to find a place to sleep. I told the old woman/fellow inmate that was my guide that I hadn't slept on the floor for forty years and I didn't intend to start now, and that's when the trouble started. I woke up at that point, and hopefully won't get to find out how it ends tonight. So tell me, Dr. JB, am I crazy or do I just have a very dim view of this nation's facilities for taking care of the infirm? :confused2:

Saw a note in the American Rifleman yesterday that NRA has partnered with MetLife to offer insurance. Called 'em up, and got the same song-n-dance about no insurance for you, with the new excuses of a gravel driveway and earthquakes. But the nice lady did offer me a very attractive auto insurance rate for the truck, so at least that's something. They wanted $2800/year to insure the Vanagon though, so I'll have to think a while about that...

Sprayed 45 gallons of 3% glyphosate yesterday, dousing weeds growing up on the various trails around the property, the driveway, and in the vegetation free zone immediately next to the house. Had a little left over and was headed up one of the steeper hills in the front meadow when I heard a loud SNAP! from the rear end of the side-by-side and it started sliding backwards. The front wheels were spinning, tearing up the ground, but not the back, and the brakes were barely holding. Managed to get it backed down to the bottom but had to sidehill a bit, and that got my heart a pounding. Poor thing drug itself back to the garage with just the front wheels, so today I'll try to figure out what broke. If I'm lucky it'll be a busted axle or hub spline, if not it could be the transmission and time for a new vehicle.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

I dont know RNG, a Google search for "adult service" might not get the results he expects. I didn't experiment to see.

Riptides, Is good you and your wife got back home.

The low this morning is at 23* and partly cloudy. It looks like the sun is going to come out for most of the day and be in the low 40's, with the wind 10-20 mph.

The weather forecast don't show any snow for the next week. The snow pack keeps dropping it's down around 55% of normal. It doesn't look good for this spring.

I do have any plans for today, I'll see what happens.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
CWB.

Good morning everyone. It was raining heavily at 6:00AM around 6:30AM some graupel (soft snow) and sleet mixed in and then everything stopped and the winds started to really pick up. I have no idea as to temperatures or temperature drop as the batteries died in the thermometer/hydrometer sending unit (Note to Buppies: The batteries die in those temperature/hydrometer/anemometer sending units at the worst possible times and weather.), but the anemometer froze up and the cups would not spin until winds started gusting +25Mph. I replaced the batteries in the T/H sending unit an hour ago and the temperature was 26F, now it is 21F.

Buckeyefarmer- Like others mentioned, one can become allergic to meds. If there was a pharmacy med switch to another "generic" med the food dye can change as well as the buffering compounds in the medication. I can not take one stomach med out of a whole class of similar meds due to med interactions. OTC meds can do all kinds of strange things when mixed with prescribed medications. I really hope that this resolves soon. Hang in there.

Eric_Salop- Grounds privileges approved pending "medication" "compliance." (No "cheeking"). On a day like today here, I would prefer the ward's comforts and free entertainment; maybe some handball in a seclusion room later w/o a ball.

"So it may take crazy to know crazy."- Toppop52 The crazier the better; it helps establish "rapport."

"Counselors needing counselors"- Ed_of_all_trades It's a given. Burn out is common (BTDT). I've seen all kinds of emotional/psychological abuses perpetrated by "therapists" and filed professional complaints against a few accordingly.

For those of us here who due to life changes are acquiring increased involvement and responsibilities as a "Primary Care Giver" for those we love (including pets) You are my heroes.

"So tell me, Dr. JB, am I crazy or do I just have a very dim view of this nation's facilities for taking care of the infirm?"- RedNeckGeek

RNG- You are sane and unfortunately very accurate about the state of care provided individuals challenged by mental illness. I was an unwilling contributor to the deinstitutionalization of a MA State Psychiatric Hospital (A national trend). When I started working there as an attendant the resident population was ~2400. By the time the State got rid of all the psychologists the resident population was down to ~100 residents. Those former patients ended up in rest homes, nursing homes, the streets, and/or jail. Many of those former patients considered the hospital and the staff home and family..... It kept me busy. I worked with some of my former residents as clients in other settings including the streets. We did those individuals and the communities where residents migrated to a serious disservice.

Never got to the barn. Washed the truck, washed the Outback, washed the golf cart, and that was sure enough.
Then I checked all the air pressures, some were off, they were due to be checked. Drained the hose, again, and watching temps drop.
But I worked up a nice sweat at the driveway carwash which is good.

Almost shaved off my beard but figured I'd give it another week, since I'm wearing it only to keep warm...
Need our resident meteorologists to tell me the earliest date when it's safe to take it off.

Think I'm going to chill out this afternoon and make a couple more loaves of potato bread in the breadmaker.
What a marvelous smell that gives off at the very end, makes the whole house nice. Made one loaf for friends, this one is for me.
The packages were a little out of date so time to use them up. Yeast still sizzled away though.

15 this morning and headed to 27 today. Still a few snow showers around today.

Storm system yesterday brought us a thin layer of ice and about 6 inches of snow. Very dry snow that with 25 mph winds is drifting pretty bad. Will be plowing out today after the birds are taken care of.
Spent most of yesterday finishing the cattle move. Had to stop day before and catch chickens. Managed to stay warm but beard looked like a popsicle by the time I was done. Some of those snow squalls had sleet in them and if driving the wrong direction they hurt. But it’s done. Cows are grazing in the last pasture. Set out some hay as they won’t graze if the grass is covered in ice. Which it is. Snow they’ll root through.

Riptides good to hear your home.

   / Good morning!!!! #67,955
Had to stop day before and catch chickens.

They were trying to get away? Or just being dumb...
I can just hear the din of 80,000 chickens squawking in support, go go go.... ;)

Sounds like utterly miserable weather there, hope you got thoroughly warmed up after that.
Looks like that snow is staying North of me, headed to VA and MD.
The snow is now all melted here and we plan on keeping it that way. But all that cold air is falling down here, kinda wish it would
stop at Virginia. Snow in a state without snow plows is a next experience for me...

Be safe

Have a great day

Went in for a DOT physical once. My family doctor. While waiting on something he starts reading me his instruction booklet for the physical. Came to a part that was talking about mental illness. Said the way it was worded nobody could pass a DOT physical. Because everyone has some form and degree of a mental illness. Turned around and handed me my physical card.

After being made aware of that, it is amazing to sit and watch people around you most will do something that has you wondering about their stability. Maybe it’s just my area.

   / Good morning!!!! #67,958
Daugen- I checked your predicted longterm temperatures = Tuesday, January 23. I was surprised at some of your early AM temperatures.

Facial hair seems to help one deal with the cold. Icicles/stalactites of "moisture" hanging off my "stash" is really becoming.

"..... it is amazing to sit and watch people around you most will do something that has you wondering about their stability. Maybe it’s just my area."- Farmer2009

It's not your area. Everyone is unique; some individuals are "more unique" than others  I consider myself to be idiosyncratic; most others drop the "syncratic" part.

There was a time in MA when psychiatric hospital staff could not serve as jurors in court due to their inability to basically think "rationally." It's probably true.

It looks like the NE and MA CONUS (down to Daugen) will see a pretty decent Great Lake Clipper and some snow for all early this coming week. This low pressure system may help churn up a coastal storm sometime around the 18th/19th according to some weather models. Real potential, track, timing, and rain/snow line yet to be predicted.

My report is pretty much like farmer's: 16F now ... but it was 15F this morning, we got the thin coating of ice and at least 6 inches of snow, winds howled all night long. And it's still snowing.

It's bad enough that Fedex called today off as a weather day ... so The Woman is home.

The (new) road department supervisor stopped by the other day with one of his new hires and we had a conversation. Evidently The Woman had called the city.

Seems the new guy was told that he only had to plow the paved section of the road (which was correct at the time, as I had requested) ... so that's what he did.

The problem was that he pushed all the snow in, part way down to the end of the paved section of what is essentially our driveway ... and left the pile of snow in the middle of the driveway, right where our property starts ... rather than pushing it off to the side. Not terribly good for emergency services, to say nothing of folks (us) that might live further down the road and actually want to get out. Ya really have to wonder about common sense for some of these guys. Christmas bonuses and tipping is not looking to good for this young fellow unless something changes.

I know the guy from somewhere ... just can't place him.

Anyways, I told the supervisor that now that I was getting older, it was fine with me if he wanted to just go ahead and have the plow truck operator come all the way down the road and push the snow up into a pile at the end ... which would save me from having to clear about 250' of driveway/road.

He didn't want to do it ... first offering up the excuse that the old supervisor had used a pick up truck to plow it and he didn't want to new kid taking the (new) big truck on gravel and getting it stuck ... now that they had assumed responsibility for plowing all roads - including the county's - within the city limits. Too busy to mess with that.

So I told him "Well, it is actually a dedicated city/county road ... so you guys are supposed to be responsible for maintaining it ...."

He was under the impression that because they hadn't been plowing it, that it was private property ... not the case.

So he said he'd check with zoning to verify (good luck with that ...)

I just went out to the store ... they plowed it ...

Since I was able to get out ok, I'm probably going to hold off on clearing it until Monday when we're supposed to get more snow ... but the temp is supposed to go up to 28F.
