Didnt know coal came in bags. My grandfather burned coal, he would have it delivered.

They would deliver the coal to the house with troughs shoveling the coal down to the cellar's coal bin.

To all you guys fighting something, I wish you luck.

Still 57F @ 21:00 with some rain. Temperature should peak around midnight and then starts falling after that ... by 09:00 tomorrow it will be down to 46F, by 23:00 it will be 23F.

The weather forecast I saw this evening said the bulk of the snow will be to the south and east of Cleveland ... IOW: here ...

They're calling for anywhere from 3" to 6" of snow tomorrow ... with a 1/10" of ice accumulation possible before the snow starts.

I got 8 rails (100" long) and 16 uprights (47 1/2" tall) for the racks cut to length, and 1 (of 2) dado joints cut into 8 of the uprights before I headed into the doctor's this afternoon.

Should hopefully get all the rest of the cutting done early tomorrow ... before it starts getting really chilly out in the garage.

Especially if I head back out and do a little more before I knock off for the day.

We had a coal stove and a wood stove, actually the coal stove would burn wood or oil as well, coal was just better heat. We had a big coal pile behind the house next to the wood pile, they delivered both by dump truck.

Good evening all. 50F for the start, partly sunny (clouds east and west), light south wind. Wind cranked up in the morning and shifted to north, sky clouded over, and hit high of 57 in the morning, and has dropped all afternoon and evening, and wind advisory scheduled to expire at midnight. Bike ride early, wind increasing through ride and shifted to north about 10:30. The morning's air mass was so humid the roads were wet from condensation. After lunch and nap time fire up wood stove.

There used to be a railroad thru my hometown, that closed around 1932. Theres an old map showing the railroad.
On facebook, a younger guy is insisting, based on this map from1898, that there was a tunnel under main st. So i asked my dad, who said it was a wooden bridge, not a tunnel. He had actually been across the bridge when he was young. My mom rode the trains last run when she was around 8 yo.

This guy is insisting it was a tunnel. I told him my dad eats breakfast at mcdonalds most mornings, go ask him, he's been across that bridge......

It was fun discussing, but its amazing how people lose track of history, or make invalid assumptions. And this was less than 100 yrs ago.
And the person running the county memories fb page, didnt know about the train tunnel near our farm. Took this picture in it in 1986.

The mast was from a small 5000# capacity forklift, I just made some mounts to put it on the 3pt, using a hydraulic toplink for tilting and one of the remotes for the lift cylinder.

Now that's usin' yer noodle, Lou. Nice work!

Good morning all. Another really dark morning here thanks to low cloud that doesn't want to move. Can't complain though, it did a great job of keeping the heat in overnight and again we are sitting at a degree above freezing.

That's looks a very useful forklift LouNY.

Many years ago a mining village close to where I used to live turned carrying bags of coal into an annual sporting event -
World Coal Carrying Champs - Gawthorpe - BBC 1 North - YouTube
WORLD COAL CARRYING CHAMPIONSHIP - NO SOUND - YouTube

... They last told me that hopefully before this weekend, if not it'll be early next week. So, I have gone cover to cover through the manual about 50 times now and soaking in as much as I can on this forum. :) .....and ordering stuff for my tractor. LOL

Einthewoods, it sounds like delivery is imminent, so it's time we start warning you about the serious side effects of a new tractor. The first issue is the smile - or as others will be calling it, the "stupid grin" that is almost impossible to wipe off. You need to put the manual down now and practice showing a serious face. If not, you won't be able to stop yourself smiling at all sorts of inappropriate times for weeks to come :)

40 right now and the forecast is calling for 14. The rain is p!ssing down and has been since yesterday afternoon. A flash freeze warning is in effect. Wind N 22 gusting to 29 mph. The rain is supposed to change over to snow about noon and we should get about 1.5 " or so.

Have good day all.

Remember that snowplow drivers are as low as some brown stuff on the bottom of your shoe and don't deserve any gifts. A snakes belly button is higher on the pole of life than a snow plow driver. This is in the councilors eyes, not mine.

I wouldn't have asked, just go ahead and do. It is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Stay safe all

66 warm degrees with heavy rain coming in soon. Going to be a washout today, about 1.5 inches predicted.
Hopefully this warmth will extend North far enough so this rain washes away snow instead of adding to it.
The mud season has officially arrived. At least I can work inside the barn and still be warm, 70 degrees today, very strange, and
weather whiplash coming in with cold returning.

I have a zerk to replace on my Land Pride finishing mower pto shaft. Both zerks fell out, odd. And despite having the 110 piece zerk assortment, of course the Kubota/LP size is off just slightly, so I had to pay 78 cents for a zerk at the Kubota dealer to fit. And it went right on so I think it's a fine/coarse thread issue. One more thing they should standardize on...
I kidded the parts guy and bought two zerks so his average sale wouldn't be screwed up. They all got a good laugh over that, smallest sale of the day.

UTV currently sitting out in rain, no shed space left ,they brought it back so fast it's normal spot, now claimed by the new mower, is gone. You snooze, you loose... I hate leaving stuff out in the rain, even with tarps. Maybe this would be a good day to see the guy at the end of the street selling small sheds. I'd be interested but had such a bad experience last time with out of area shed crews coming in, with no local supervision.
I want the thing built by locals. I think.... Apparently not easy to find.

You spend thousands of dollars on a shed, and the crew that shows up doesn't speak a word of English. That's just not right. Now I insist on fluent English supervision or I use someone else. You want my business? Go study Rosetta Stone...
I don't care if the workers are pink and come from Borneo, I need to communicate with them and not by sign language.

Hey Texas...64 going to 70! Raining gently now. But snow by Wednesday, according to TV meteorologist.

Lou, beautiful sunrise on a nice snowy scene. Thanks for sharing...and I agree, that forklift is a winner.

jbrumberg, I look at two or three PWS sites on WU daily...there is a counter on each site that shows how many times viewed, and I account for the majority of them.

Took advantage of the nice weather and having wife back home to take her to lunch and Costco...while at Costco, I remembered Farmer's Kentucky school closing and flu rate, which reminded me finally to get my flu shot. The head pharmacist gave me a friendly lecture for waiting so long, and reminded me it takes 2 weeks to become effective. I asked him if it was true that the shot was only 10% effective this year, as I've heard. He said he only has his experience...many associates at this Costco had gotten the flu...and none of them had received the shot. None of those with the shot had gotten the flu. He also said he can't keep Tamiflu in stock...demand too high.

Thomas, sorry to hear your government tells you to whom you can give a Christmas gift.

Good happy Friday!

We went from our January thaw yesterday with 43f to our high for today of 17 and headed colder. Going to be a cold weekend with highs in the teens. All the melt from yesterday is going to turn the plowed/shoveled areas into a large ice rink.

My tractor is supposed to be delivered today!!!!

Looking forward to the fish fry tonight, and then goofing around with the tractor tomorrow (dressed as an Eskimo).

Good morning all, 51 last night when I went to bed and it is 62 now with a high of 63. Calling for snow Sat. Had a good trip and a good Dentist visit, if there is such a thing. Was rainy and foggy the whole way, not bad until it started getting dark. Tried to catch up with my mom's 1st cousin but he is hard to catch. I must have been tired, slept till after 6 this morning. Thanks for the prayers, got out of the mountains just in time. Was getting dark when we came out.

Jb, glad you are able to get around and do some things too, Glad you are here on this morning. Thanks for your words.

Lou, I love that forklift.

Einthewoods, :cool2: Be sure to practice not :D. Enjoy.

Prayers all around. Ed

Still 56F here @ 07:00 ... in a band of dry at the moment, was raining earlier, will start again within the next hour.

That will be the band of rain just ahead of the cold front ... before it all turns frozen. Air temp will be 31F by 14:00.

Been cutting lumber for the last hour ... have a few still to go.

   / Good morning!!!! #67,840
Need to pour second cup of coffee. 32° with heavy rain this morning. Heading to below freezing soon. There is a band of freezing rain just to the west of me. Should make driving very interesting for those that need to be out in it. No plans today. Something always shows up. Quick look at thawed garden pond. Found all the fish clumped together at the deepest depth. Ice was over 12" thick in a pond that is almost 2' deep.
Etwoods, good news on tractor. Keep the smile.
Lou, nice picture and like your forklift.
Drew, are you going to sell your TT?
Good Morning All.
