My heatpump which is the only source of heat upstairs in my house, where my office is, does not like cold weather.
Occasionally it goes through some cycle where it stops heating and I get cold damp air blown on me for up to five minutes, then it turns the heat back on.
HVAC guy told me this was normal. Would think they would at least trigger the resistance heating/backup heater during that period to give some heat until
the unit completed its cycle.
Well not the only source of heat. I have a little electric heater set on low toasting my ankles right now, and it's delightful. But if temps goes down into teens, heat pump will not hold 70.
Thankfully really cold weather is pretty rare here. 9 degrees is the lowest I've seen in three years. I hope I never see a negative number again...
Not so fond memories of being in Chicago on business in the winter, -5 out and windy, and I was worried about frostbite leaving the hotel.
Had a really nice day pruning the orchard and got lots of needed exercise climbing up and down the ladder. Felt good after being inside and eating too much.
Then planted 400 or so onions and shallots and got my Jan 1 plantings done a day early. I'm most interested in the Italian cippolini onions, little flat onions you either grill or
fry in a pan. Something I've never had and sounded interesting. Then Creole reds, an elongated red French onion, and shallots.
Found some black rust on one of the apple trees, not good. Needs to be sprayed but sprayer is winterized and it will have to wait a month for the dormant spray. I do that Feb 1.
Found last year's pruning marks and let most of the trees grow a foot before pruning again.
Trying to force side branches, not going to let any of them get much higher than the ladder.
Lastly, a Danger Close situation with the offwhite sculptured carpet. The sheet had been there before but just the proximity bothered me after I looked down.
This is where if my wife were still alive I would have sure gotten hollered at. I admit to missing it...
Everything went up on the racks from there, under the lights. Little radiator in there helps to keep that sunroom about 75.
Better a day early than a day late
