Good morning! We mowed during the eclipse yesterday, well mostly the wife did, I was busy trying to get a pic - failed. We could feel the lack of the sun's intensity and thought that this is how the people up North enjoy their Summers. Temperature did not drop but it did not rise and we stayed 5˚ cooler at 95˚. We had about 60% coverage. Cloud coverage would have been darker but the kind of light when there were no clouds was different.

Good morning all, 69 now going to 93 today. Been busy for a few days doing life. Wife got a few pics of the eclipse yesterday, but none half as good as Don's. Hope to talk my barber into giving me a haircut today if she's not to busy cooking or cleaning the house. Other than that not sure what I will do.

Daugen, Your welding looks great for the time you have been welding. You must have the knack.

David. Kitchens look great, won't show wife as I don't have her pantry done yet.

Have a great day all. Ed

71°F and heavy rain this morning, going up to 81° today. That 86% humidity we've been "enjoying" recently is supposed to drop off with this front as well.

I didn't bother trying to take any eclipse pictures through my welding helmet, as it was flashing a bit trying to stay on, and I doubted I would get very good focus. I'm sure NASA got a bunch of better pics anyway. We didn't get totality here at work in North St. Louis City (about 99%, I'm told), but The Wife drove to Sparta IL with neighbors and had a picnic at the World Shooting Complex there. She said she had her glasses off for about a minute during totality, and could actually see the moon.

Listening to an eclipse on the radio, Eric? Now that's some quality entertainment right there.

I missed my opportunity, lit my bonfire an hour too soon, was thinking if it got real dark and the fire was blazing away
a bunch of Druids would show up and celebrate...dancing around the fire.
but then I have an active imagination...:D

Thanks Ed. A lot of grinding and filler primer work magic over bad welds. Drew

Bird, I made the mistake, only once, of turning down the offered free sunglasses after an eye exam, thinking I had mine in the truck.
I didn't and said well I didn't live far away. Big mistake. Awful searing pain in the eye. So really good you did not try...
btw, a major congrats on reaching 40,000 posts.

I wonder who has the most posts?

The low this morning was 44* not sure of the high yesterday. Today is going to be in the 80's with a chance of showers and wind.

We made a day of going up to see the eclipse. Left here about 4:30 am got back to the house about 6:00 pm. Their wasn't as many people as I was thinking there would be. The traffic wasn't to bad. We were at over 8,000 ft and had to put our coats back on for awhile. We all had a good time and was glad to to see it. It's something we will never forget. Sorry this is the only decent picture I have.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB

If you go to the Members page and sort by posts, it shows that Bird has some catching up to do.

We had 81.5% coverage here, I took some pics through the welding helmet with my iPhone, but they're awful. Hot and humid today, but fall like by week's end.IMG_3152.JPGIMG_3156.JPGIMG_3157.JPG

76.6F and mostly cloudy, predicted high today of 82F. High on Thursday only expected to hit 71F, low on Friday only 51F.

Just had a brief heavy downpour. Checking the two closest reporting stations (3 and 6 miles), the first shows 3.12" since midnight , and the other shows 0.07" ... dunno if the first is accurate or not, but if so it really shows the hit-or-miss nature of the showers.

Good likelihood that we'll get more as the day wears on ... which is good because it's sorely needed.

Yesterday was mostly a bust ... but we did get a short downpour.

Good Morning!!!! 74F@ 8:30AM. Mostly cloudy skies this morning will become partly cloudy this afternoon. High around 90F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

We'll be under a Red Flag warning for lightning initiated wildfire starting at 2PM today until midnight. A low pressure system is moving in off the Pacific bring moisture winds, and thunderstorms, so any fires that do start will spread quickly. Gonna keep the stereo turned down low and listen for airplanes circling overhead, probably skip the siesta.

Anybody using melamine dishes out there? Are they OK to use in a microwave? Some say yes, some say that the material dries out and cracks, but no problem with leaching into your food.

72°F and 1.76 inches rain. Looks to be a wet day ahead.

Our sunrise was a bit clouded yesterday so even our partial eclipse was a bust we we did watch the ABC news which did a great job tracking it across the country as we enjoyed morning coffee

Managed some more mowing before heading into town for dentist visit. Wove has to return for a small cavity next week. The real shocker was the $613 bill and that was with a so called discount!!!! Might have to rethink getting dental insurance. Likely a no win either way.

No big plans today given this weather.

Be safe
Have a great day

Might have to rethink getting dental insurance. Likely a no win either way.

The Wife and I sat down and gave that hard look, too. The insurance package I get at work is OK (BC/BS), but expensive for the employees. We crunched the numbers regarding the dental portion, and decided it was more cost efficient for us to not have that insurance. It's turning out to be considerably cheaper to pay for our visits than it would be to be paying the monthly premiums. Of course, we haven't had any major work done either.

Good Evening? When does afternoon end and evening begin?

I was in the office during the eclipse. NASA had some great photos though...

Wife and I went on a quick trip back to Jamacia Thur-Sunday (She won the trip at work!!!!) and that was awesome but no tractor time.

heavy rains after eclipse have destroyed my driveway again. I also seem to need to bush-hog EVERYTHING again an I've only ground 4 of the 40+ stumps we just created.

Been a busy couple weeks.

Hope all are well and talk to you guys again soon.

David

I have some plates I bought about a year ago off Amazon. The box specifically said "Not For Microwave Use" when they arrived. They did not say what tragedy would occur if used in the microwave. If I would have known that I would not have bought them. Target has some that are safe for microwave use. I guess there are different types of melamine. Or maybe I just got the ones boxed for California.

Good afternoon! We will have tropical storm Harvey forming in the Gulf which might turn into a hurricane and hit us on the day of the fish fry. The bad, wind and rain, the good 78˚. This will be an exciting weekend. There is no plan B. The tents will not withstand the winds so a hurricane party for 1200 is not a good idea. We might have to formulate plan B tonight.

Hope we only get some good rain from it Don. But maybe a break for you guys Saturday for a handful of hours.

I was hoping for some better radio transmissions during the eclipse, but Don's eclipse photo really made me pull my hair out disproving my theory.

CWB, It looks like you had a great seat to view. Some reporter somewhere got stuck in traffic for something like 12 hours.

Finally got the go ahead on making a new fuel cell for a project at work. It will keep us busy for over a month.
