Good evening all. 80F this morning, clear, and calm. Moderate wind today, sky remained clear, high temp was 95F with plenty of heat index . Bike ride this morning, followed by two periods of lawn mowing, then nap and I got to make supper tonight (meatloaf).

the eclipse was a bust for me, glad some of you had fun and got some pics. Don, that's a marvelous pic.
Billie, very cool picture through the trees.
So here I've decided to mow the entire lawn and be out during the eclipse, coming in to the barn when it got dark to get my welding helmet.
I mowed right through it...never got dark, only a little darker and a little cooler. That's it. I missed it...
not like there aren't a million and one videos taken of it.

burned the burn pile after spending several hours cleaning up the last of the brush from my tree trimming project.
Lot of raking, chain sawed a bunch of limbs, got everything lugged to the right pile, hard work in the heat
and lit it off after a modest dribbling of old gasoline
taken out of old equipment and saved for just this. Burn pile doesn't care if gasoline is stale, good actually, maybe less explosive.
Wadded paper towel on end of all metal rake and after letting pile sit for ten minutes, lit it off. Top two feet was brush and bottom three feet is wood chips.
those wood chips got lit off just fine, and nothing blows around. It will smoke all night and tomorrow though, not sure the neighbors are thrilled.
After the top part burned off, I could see constant flames all over the chips, very low down, and before I came in, the pile had dropped about a foot.
It will keep burning and drop another several feet by the time it's done. Too bad i'm burning all this biomass without converting it to energy.
The idea of having a steam plant in this heat...no.
Just wondering if all these chips can be used for something other than attracting termites, bees and ants.

this tree behind my house is about to get the proverbial axe. Wrecked during a prior hurricane, had its top half blown off,
never been the same, straggly, constantly dropping dead limbs and never pretty. Will make a good tractor project.
But at the moment, no more chainsawing and brush lugging in 104 heat index weather.
And for Don, who is about to get even hotter than me, Mostly too..., my only pic of real snow in three years here.
Kinda feels cooling doesn't it?...
I might go a couple more years before seeing a really massive snow like this.

I should have commented months ago, as you work hard to maintain and improve your property....and it shows!

It is beautiful and your neighbors must be thrilled......smoke or not!

Good morning, weather is looking a little different this morning, with only a light mist to save us from being bathed in sunlight. It's going to be quite a while before I can seen a sunrise again without thinking of Don's solar flares.

Although yesterdays eclipse didn't touch the UK directly, our news gave it lots of coverage. It made it onto our radio too - listening to an eclipse happening several thousand miles away is about as eye safe as it gets !

Wife is happy because she got to pick the very first apples from her little orchard.
I am happy because I just got to sample a slice of pie for breakfast.
Yep, life is good

62 right now...high in the mid-80's.

We were way too far off the track to see the eclipse...just a little darkening. In fact, it was no darker then a cloud passing between the sun and us. Well, I've seen partial eclipses before so no big deal.
My wife was listening to the commentaries and descriptions on the TV. Boy, the TV folks were pretty childish...sounded like a couple of 8 year olds describing an eclipse.

71 going to 95...but looking ahead I see a 59 forecast for Friday night. Yum.

Never got the afternoon bush hogging done since we got about a half inch from that elipse thunderstorm.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 72° with off and on rain. Heading to 77° with thunderstorms. Off to get MRI today. Then start packing for garbage pickup some of the old fence that we took down last week. Wifes Neurologist visit yesterday was a good one. There is a new drug out that may help to slow down the onset of ALS. Need more info but it's something.
Eclipse was a bust here. Glad to see some remember the hole in cardboard that was the thing last Eclipse. Looks like we will get another one in 2024 east of the Mississippi.

60F clear sky upper 80's for high,darn good chance rain w/t-storm later tonight.
Setting on the deck last evening watching mother skunk show her 2 little ones the fine art of digging for grubs,1,of the 2 need more practice.

Eclipse?? What eclipse?? I didn't see anything unusual yesterday; just hot and dry, and it never darkened around here.:laughing: Of course, I was leaving my eye doctor's office, with my eyes dilated, about the time the eclipse was supposed to start, so I didn't try to look that direction at all.
