rainy cool morning, 58 degrees going up to only 69 today. And then....forecast shows a week of 90 degree weather.

headed down to talk to alarm company this morning. Really want my security video system stored in the cloud so thief can't just steal the dvr.
My current stand alone system won't do that and my central station alarm system is 20 years old and won't handle video. Have been through this before; the older
systems only cost twenty bucks a month for monitoring. Upgrade to the newer systems and the charge doubles or triples. Hmmmm. There is an excellent DIY system out there that is highly rated but they only have interior cameras, not exterior. I suggested they were missing out on a huge amount of business by not having an exterior camera.
So first to see what the high priced version will cost, then will see if I can duplicate it for less. The DIY system only charges 15 bucks a month to monitor out of Atlanta, but my current ADS system central station is many states away also, so as long as there are local repair places, guess it's all the same.

will work on the mower deck project later today. Hope to get my welder neighbor/mentor over here on Saturday to help me.

Have read that the price of crude oil is climbing back a little but can't tell by local pumps, $2.10 for regular
Drew can you share this DIY setup I'm interested also??

Good morning! Happy anniversary Thomas!
Alarms is the topic this morning, well I was impressed when my 5th cousin came to visit from Germany. His iPhone alerted him when his porch camera motion detector when off and he was able to view a package being deliver to his house. That was 10 years ago.

Good morning all.

My experience with security motion detection is they trigger so much you get flooded with too much data. My cameras only record on motion and the outdoor ones record almost non stop. Changes in shade will trigger, mostly things blowing in the breeze, and spider webs

It does allow hardwired sensors,so I could mount an external motion sensor and only use it to trigger recording, would be better than detecting motion in the video.

55°F and clear skies again this morning, going up to 82° today.

Wife and I were invited to play golf with some friends this weekend, so she dug the clubs out of the garage yesterday. We haven't touched them since last fall, and they've been buried behind all the house stuff stored in the garage during the remodel. She found some of the stuff - towels, club head covers - had been chewed on my mice (she also found a dead mouse, poison victim no doubt). So, she wanted me to meet her at our local Golf Galaxy to pick up a few things after work. While there, we also inquired with the staff pro about lessons, something we've been discussing, and several of our friends have done recently. We both signed up for the 6 lesson plan. After 27 years of hacking around courses, I'm finally going to learn what I'm doing wrong. I love the game, but I'm terrible at it. Hopefully, this will make it even more enjoyable. Her first lesson is tomorrow afternoon, and mine is Friday after work. Kind of looking forward to this.

We then went across the highway and had a late dinner at Olive Garden ... since I wasn't so scruffy this time. :D

Happy Anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. Thomas.

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 6:30AM. A steady rain early...then remaining cloudy with a few showers. High near 65F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

The rain started about an hour ago, so far only 0.08" have accumulated, and the front is almost through. The less rain the better, as the grass and brush are already heavy and there have already been several wildfires in the area.

Before signing up for any alarm system, be sure to check the internet for ratings and reviews. Simply Safe was one I looked at that had horrible customer service. ADT is expensive, but every time I've called the phone has been answered by a native English speaker that was able to quickly answer my question or take care of my issue. I've also been able to put conditions on when they call fire or police to avoid false alarms, and those conditions have been used in the past. I have a video system set up that I can monitor when away from the house, but it isn't tied into the alarm system. I don't want it to be because of the reasons cited by Buckeye Farmer. But on receiving an alarm, it's nice to be able to verify activity in and around the house before calling for help. Video is stored in a solid state drive hidden in an out building, so it has a pretty good chance of surviving a break in. But all they'd have to do is kill the power at the main breaker and nothing would work. Been thinking about installing UPSs for key pieces, but the system is distributed at several locations and it gets expensive fast. It's a shame any of this is needed. If people just kept their hands to themselves, none of it would be necessary.
