Good morning!!!!

Good Morning. 0905, mostly cloudy, 67F with 82% humidity. Forecast high of 78F with 50% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 64F tonight.

I noticed the sweet corn in the RNRGGS got burned a little by the frost too. I'm guess it just didn't get the frost washed off because the broccoli was blocking the sprinkler. I gave the broccoli a haircut this morning. That is like closing the barn door after the horse is gone. I've transplanted a few Pruden's Purple tomato and New Mexico Chili pepper plants from trays into cups this morning.

The prom season is here. Tonight I have the lock-out and tomorrow night the prom. So it's really spring now.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Nice job on the trees Don. Around here it seems to be Sthil or Husqvarna. Don't see many ECHO used. I still use my 38 year old Jonsered 49SP.:licking: In their day they were the saw to have.

They said Sthil USED to be good but something with the new gas caps.

He also buys chain for the chain saw by the roll and just cuts off what he needs - he says it makes his chains about 1/2 price that way - but the roll cost $600. He also serviced my chainsaw while we were talking chainsaws.

Good Morning! 60f @ 10:00 AM. Windy with scattered thunderstorms developing. High 69F. Winds SSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Farmer, from the looks of things you're a chip off the old block, and at 92 I bet your father can tell some wonderful stories.

Nice job on the trough, Eric. It's nice when the breaks go your way on a heavy task like that, isn't it?

With the help of a floor jack and a brick I managed to get the front deck level yesterday. In the process what at first appeared to be plastic wrapped paper money fell out of somewhere under there. But on closer examination it turned out to be Xerox copies with promotional advertising for a vacuum pack technique for preserving money. One pack did contain a one dollar bill, a quarter, a nickel, and a blackened penny. The waterlogged bill came out of the plastic sleeve in four pieces, and I'm glad the old man didn't invest heavily in this technology. It does go to illustrate the mind set of what I'm dealing with here, and reminds me to be even more vigilant as I get things ready for auction.

I also finished up the flagpole installation, and got a good start filling in a large crack that had developed between the garage apron and the garage floor. While breakfast was cooking I went around to all the windows with a can of spray lube and gave each of the opening mechanisms a squirt. Took longer than I thought and breakfast was almost cold before I finished. Good thing microwaves are so handy, and the one here still works.

Got a call back from one of the attorneys working the Tacoma law suit, and was told that his covers the 2000-2005 models. That's of no help to me, but he was very interested in my conclusions as to why the failure had occurred. It seems Toyota designed a box section beam for the frame rail, then neglected to either rust proof the interior, seal it well enough to prevent water intrusion, or provide some means to let it drain. As a result, whenever the truck was driven through melting snow, the inside of the frame rails were bathed with salt water which then became trapped. The corrosion reactivated every time the truck got wet, and since the salt had nowhere to go, even fresh water summer rains caused additional rust. Even worse, if an owner was contentious about washing the undercarriage after every salt exposure, all it did was add more water and keep the corrosion process active longer. Toyota's fix for rails that hadn't rusted through yet was to undercoat them, which again did nothing to address the root cause of the problem and probably just kept the rusting from showing long enough to make the end of the recall period, which was in 2012. The attorney's estimate of the cost to Toyota to date for the 200-2005 trucks is over 300 million dollars, and this doesn't even count the '95-'99 vehicles or the majority of the Tacomas in his class action. If I was driving a Tacoma from those years I'd sure as heck get rid of it NOW, and if I was shopping for a small used pickup I'd probably look at Nissans instead. I've had two Toyota trucks, but after this trouble and the company's response, I'll never get another.

Today I'll run into town and pick up new smoke detectors and other supplies for the house, and drop by to see the old man again. The neighbor holding his medical power of attorney agreed to put him in hospice care, which I agreed to, as his condition seems to be rapidly declining. He'll get an elevated level of care and pain medication if he seems in need of it, but since all he seems to do now is sleep, it's probably not necessary. Not much of a reward for living 88 years, isn't it?

Drew,

Glad your trip went well and you arrived home safely.

I can surely attest that unless one is young and spry like Ron that driving ten hours in an rv in heavy traffic
will leave one wilted. And with a headache. But that's all.
Imagine being a trucker, driving a big rig ... and doing it day after day after day ... ;)

Yup ... they (and the oil caps) are attached to the saw with a small piece of plastic "string" ... complete PITA ... hate it.

They have also had some sealing/venting issues with them as well.

That is good stuff to know guys. I think if I were to get a new one I would get the Husqvarna Farm Tough model. 50cc with 20" bar. Or their Rancher model.

66°F and no rain last 24 hours.

Pick up friends at airport this afternoon. They will be house/dog sitting during our travels, but we get to visit first.

Be safe
Have a great day

Not having a very good day here on the North Bluff.

I got a love letter today from the state stating that they want me to pay them $474.00 and asking for stuff I have no idea on. Something about verifying a subtraction on line 5????? So Now got to get that figured out when my tax guy gets back.
I only have 30 days to reply or they will start hiking on interest. What could be next??????

This is whats next. I went and put the new filter on the fuel pump and turned it on and it shot fuel all over the shed walls and me. Ugh!
Seems the filter has two seals. One at the bottom of the threads on the inside and the other on the top of the canister. So when I screwed it on it engaged the one on the threads first and I thought it was tight but it had not drawn up enough to tighten up the canister gasket. One more turn and I would of been good. The seal on the threads is to insure that filtered fuel can't mix with nu-filtered fuel. First time I have seen a filter with that inside o-ring gasket. Must be a fuel thing?

So I got to clean the shed walls, my jacket all my clothes. . It is good to go now.

So I am doing laundry right now. :banghead: :banghead:

Think I will have a early :drink:

Don, I understand, stuff I could do 2-3 years ago is becoming harder now. If you can reach it with a bar or something, turn the key on with the engine off, tap the clutch and pull the switch to see if it'll click in. Probably not though.

I believe txdon's comment was referring to Mikim's death...apparently, under that mower.

2016-03-24,

Rough last couple days...
If you recall the post from Wednesday morning, I had gone in a lot earlier then I usually do. I got to work at 0400 (usual time is 0530) to work on some documents required for a shipment.
Well, the company intranet was down...wasted at least 4 hours.
I had been feeling a bit "off"...and by 0700, I was feeling way out of sorts. Went to the shift first responder and, ultimately, I was driven to the hospital. My heart rate was >200 BPM...about 3.5 times what it should be.
Long story short...my pacemaker had given up the ghost (ironic term, that) and my heart rate was all over the place. My pacemaker was replaced today (after about 20 hours in the hospital and then transferred to Dartmouth Hickock...spent about 10 hours there and went through the pacemaker replacement procedure.
So now...shiny new pacemaker, can't shower until late Saturday at earliest. No lifting more then 7 or 8 pounds (how am I gonna pee, nurse?) for about two weeks.

Been a rough couple days, folks...

Sorry Roy, maybe you can get a come along to help with the unit lifting procedure! :D My wife has a pacemaker and her heart is 100% dependent so if hers acts up, like yours, it's a life threatening event. Glad you caught it in time. Feel well soon.

Roy sorry you went through that, not good at all. Maybe the new ones have a warning bell, time to replace...
Stay healthy now and feel better.

RS, that sounds like the drive from a bad torture movie. Feline gives owner heart attack!
Glad Squeak minded her manners. Could it have been a medicine reaction?
RNG, what you are going through, oh my, well, I hope you find a stash of gold doubloons in there...hopefully you will
find plenty of silver linings there and i don't mean money.

Got the trailer secured as best as i can, tomorrow I'm putting on some ground anchors I have in the barn. I can only do three sides but that's better than nothing.
With the sandy/clay soil here, with no rocks, it should hold pretty well if I sink them down a ways.

Pushed a trim mower and mowed a little while out front by the roads where the weeds had gotten hold. Very dusty, eyes itchy, had to take a long shower when I came in. The thickness of the pine pollen coming down right now is quite remarkable. Like little sand dunes of yellow sawdust on my porch.

some pics attached, nice to be able to dump big files in without issue as the uploader seems to have a healthy appetite now.
The trailer does seem to dwarf the truck from the rear.

quite a rain system marching across the country, we are in for a thunderstorm and .75 inches (it keeps going up) of rain tomorrow. And then another storm Sunday night.
yeah, better get the anchors out...

We need the rain for surface needs like grass seed and plants but the soil underneath due to the clay is still plenty damp due to being wet for oh so long.
But since I don't want to water the vegetable garden, bring it on.

Roy, sorry to hear your problems. Get well soon.
RS, cat stories are always interesting.
Drew, nice trailer.

I've got about a dozen rolls setting in the barn, I guess I ought to do something with them.

Roy I am sending prayers your way. Hope you feel better and that the nurses treat you well. Ed

Hi Guys, I have been lurking around, but after 2 weeks in CO dealing with a sisters suicide, then leaving for a week in Ohio for the draft horse auction I have been busy playing catch up on all the posts. Not to mention all the work that didn't get done both business and farm. Sorry to say it but just been to busy to post much.

Roy, sure am glad you caught the faulty pacemaker in time. Trust me, a little R&R won't hurt you.

Drew, nice trailer! Now you know the worst thing you can do to one is not use it.

Kev, I am sooo jealous of the fuel tank you scored!!! Thanks for asking about me.

Don, sorry the mower wasn't an easy fix, it was very nice of you to try and help her with it. The pavers look awesome, and it was a damned nice thing giving the local woodpeckers a playground.

Eric, glad you got the trough to work, now if there was an easy way to keep the water clean. And before anyone says goldfish, remember I live in FL, home of egrets and herons, not to mention coons.

Farmer, how is the remodel coming? Baby room done? How is the wife doing?

Buckeye, your Dad looks really good for his age, Does he stay busy?

RS, to many cats!!! LOL

Larro, don't let anything happen to those NM chilies. Sorry to hear the frost hit you, we got lucky and it never reached ground level.

If I missed anyone I am sorry, just taxing my brain and that is not pretty.:D

Roy, hang in there. Be careful with that heavy load;) The one thing I remember about my Grandfather's heart condition, he was not supposed to lift anything heavier than his shoes. That was in the late 60's. I'm guessing shoes are lighter today.

Kev, good to have you back. Sorry to hear of your sister's death. Prayers for you and yours.

Drew, welcome to the south. You haven't really lived here until your first pollen season.
