55 now and 61 is the predicted high. No rain yet, but there is a 70% chance we'll see some today...

Update at 0915:
Had a quick rain shower...now it's clearing so maybe it will dry up for some outdoor activities.

a warmish 60 degrees out, going to low seventies, the rain and warm air system has passed, really heard it coming down last night, but now it's bright blue sky out, everything is clear and sparkly. All good.

Lots of little projects to do today, moving equipment around, to the storage locker, etc, after a quiet morning.
Nadene is starting to make her lists for our rv trip to the Poconos on Wednesday. I washed the motorhome this week, geez was that a big job, like washing my old boat, and it still is clean and ready to go. We have it outside our house, breaking all the HOA rules, but I give so many veggies to my neighbors that after I asked them if they minded it sitting out there for a few days, the common reaction was who cares. One of my less friendly neighbors up the street might mind; it's a cul de sac road, but another neighbor has been parking his big rv out in front for years, a few days at a time, so everyone seems to think it's normal. Now if the teenage daughter of my neighbors across the street would have more sense and park her car up the street a little , and not directly across from the RV. When the trash truck tries to squeeze through there, I just hold my breath. I did put a couple of red cones out, am waiting for them to disappear in the middle of the night.

I think we have one more picking of tomatoes and peppers, the vines are just about gone; kinda weird to see tomatoes on vines without leaves. We're picking anything that starts to turn pink now, one of these nights frost will do it all in. The tomatoes are getting soft, but the peppers, man they just keep coming and coming and coming. I think even the neighbors have had enough by now. All good.

64* and raining this morning.

It was pleasant waking up to the sound of the breeze and rain on the tree leaves, had the bedroom window open overnight, as usual.

...

Have a good one!

For those who have never done it, waking up to a cold fall morning with the window open a bit is one of the better aspects of living in Northern New England. Of course you have to be used to it.

I knew people in Maine that closed the bedroom door tight in the dead of winter and left the window open a couple inches. Obviously they were native---and Swede--but none of that for me. Seems farmgirl would be out on this one too.

Drank way to much coffee this morning. 41 degrees with clear skies this morning. Heading to 54 with lots of sun. Helping our friend set up some deer blinds today.
Good Morning All.

I've grown to really like the sound of the approaching rain.

I don't know, but I suspect you cannot smell the rain coming there like we can here. You can see a rain shaft off in the distance, but the outflow seems to pick up dust and moisture and combines for a very earthy damp smell long before the rain hits.

It's another glorious day here with the coolest temperatures in months (low 50s overnight) and clear still air with a huge dew on the grass in the morning. It would only make a mess to mow in these conditions. I got my mowing done before the rain, so I can really kick back and enjoy this weather.

Okay, I have to confess something here. I'm not that cold tough. I do enjoy the fresh, crisp air drifting in the window though.

Our passive solar earth-bermed house with lots of thermal storage concrete doesn't cool off that much overnight this time of year with the windows open. We don't need any heating normally until around early-mid November when we typically start getting strings of cloudy, and shorter, days and cooler temps.

Sixdogs, you have become a real child of the corn there in Ohio. I used to like the sound of the wind moving through the surrounding corn fields in Ohio. Especially in late summer or fall when the leaves are getting dry.

Good afternoon all. 1430, light rain, 75* with 94% humidity. Forecast is for a high of 84 with 60% chance of rain, and tonight's low down to 68*. It has rained off and on since yesterday afternoon. We have got an inch since midnight.

Speaking of rain, thirty years ago while I was serving on the USS Saipan, we spent a lot of time in the West Indies. Every afternoon about 1430 the rain would roll through. It would be a solid wall of water coming across the water. If you didn't get off the deck, you would be soaked in about two seconds.

Daugen, we have a couple of convection ovens here in the Civic Center's kitchen. The rule of thumb is they take half the time to cook as a regular oven. So check your food often until you get used to the way it cooks.
