I'll have to dig up my fav photo of the coyote I caught in daytime on the back forty. He or she is now part of a larger pack that makes their home close here. Daughter said she heard them again last night in the front and wanted me to put the game cam up to the house. I am still trying to get a pic of the big 12 point buck in the back. He is...elusive...

That reminds me the next door neighbor texted me yesterday, when I was playing tree, and said there were 6 coyotes behind my house. Whipper was inside sleeping, she thinks she's retired.

Riptides all we need is David’s acid and Timothy Leary then retirement would be fun in conjunction with the bad renters and herb garden

33° this morning and forecast is for 62° and sunny.

Weekend is expected to be back in the 70’s with a five day rain break.

We got another 1” of rain yesterday so, pastures are completely saturated and tractors will stay parked until ???

We hear coyotes nightly but ..... they stay away because of our two donkeys. Donkeys are pre-wired to chase down and stomp the ..... out of coyotes.

Our local squirrels (tree rats with nice tails and good PR) totally destroyed all our patio furniture cushions so ...... I use my SR22 for a bit of target practice on them ..... every chance I get.

Hope everyone has an excellent Friday and weekend.

Prayers to all.

The neighbors Donkeys on the back forty, left with the neighbor a few years back. I think there is a correlation there with the pack.

I love squirrel. Can't shoot them and stew them with the wife. I use to when she was out of town, sadly that is not the case anymore.

On my fridge I have a photo of the squirrel nest and babies that made their home in my farmhouse chimney during renovations. The wife turned them over to a rehab specialist, who then returned the babies as juveniles to us. Of course they were human imprinted, and now generations later, these tree rats continue to jest me in the yard and on the house.

That reminds me, dad used to skin squirrels on the side our barn, had nails he would use.
We fryed squirrel, just like chicken... Been yrs since i had squirrel to eat.

The only way I ever saw squirrels skinned, or did it myself, was to cut a small hole in the skin in the middle of the back enough to get your fingers in there, then pull the skin off in each direction. And I, too, have never eaten squirrel cooked any way other than fried. And yes, it's been many years now since I had any to eat.

Our local squirrels (tree rats with nice tails and good PR) . . .

Hmm, does rat meat and "tree rat with nice tail" both taste like chicken?

"Rodent meat breaks up like chicken when cooked, can be cooked the same ways, are mild in flavor, and can overcook and dry out in the same ways as chicken. You wouldn't want to eat rodent meat undercooked because of possible parasites. Great uses for rodent meat are in braises, soups, and stews. Although they still taste great roasted over an open fire."
