On a better note: when I was over at the TBN neighbor last weekend, he showed me a whole house surge protector that is provided and installed by the electric company.
I called them on Tuesday, had the info about the protector emailed to me before I got off the phone. Signed the form and sent it back. They came out yesterday morning and had it installed before I got back from the doc.
At least something went well for a change. They have always had great customer service.

The new UPS on the pellet stove performed perfectly when they shut off the power. One less thing to worry about. Wifey wasn't happy that she had to reset all the clocks though..... I told her it was the price of protection....
Now even the shop is protected too.

so you load it it with charcoal and set the temperature and monitor until done. And place a pan of water in the bottom? Add wood on top of the charcoal I assume?

I load it with lump charcoal, rarely, but occasionally will put some wood chunks in with it. I’ll put an 8qt chafer pan in the bottom with water or apple cider, or not at all depending what’s getting cooked.

Thanks for the refresher on why snow country is not on my list of places being considered for the upcoming move, Lou. It brought back many unfond memories of my youth in Ohio, where the last three years saw multiple ice storms each. And that my first and only auto accident happened on a snow packed road that had turned to ice.

Ted, how did you hurt yourself. Fall at work or some accident?
It was 3 injuries to the same knee over a 6 week period.

First one, we were moving a patient down a steep grass hill on the gurney. I stepped in a sprinkler hole and hyper-extended the knee. All they did was ice and heat packs and put me on light duty for a week.

The second, We had a psych patient, which took about an hour at scene to de-escalate. He was calm all the way to the hospital .... until we pulled in the entrance. Then he went bonkers and started beating up on me and my partner. My lower leg / knee got stuck between the gurney and the cabinets in the ambulance. He knocked me over, twisting the knee sideways....
But--- never did anything more than an xray and cold/ hot packs. Back on to light duty for a couple weeks. At this point, pain was almost constant.

Then the third, two weeks later.... I had a new partner who was fresh out of the training academy (and she was maybe 100lbs wet). So, the 'normal' routine was off...... We had just arrived at the scene and had all the equipment on the gurney, going into the building. We had to lift it up over a high curb. When I lifted my end, my partner just 'shoved' the gurney forward with all her might. It smashed into the inside of my knee forcing it the opposite direction of the previous injury. Felt a bad "pop" and excruciating pain......

Went to the ER. Only xrays and same treatment. It wasn't until almost 3 weeks later that a doc asked if an MRI was done..., nope. Sent me for one immediately. It showed that my meniscus was shattered into 8 pieces (not including the shards), a tibial head fracture, and a torn MCL and ACL.
Surgery was scheduled within 2 weeks.

I was doing great, went through 4 months of rehab, and had returned to full time light duty. ----- until another coworker / previously my intern, came running down the hallway and jumped on my back just as I stepped out on the "bad" knee. Instant 'pop' and pain.... 2 more tears in the remaining meniscus. This resulted in another surgery to repair.

Within 4 months, the meniscus degraded to nothing and the knee was bone on bone. No more rehab / PT. Scheduled for surgery for full replacement. Then Covid hit, it was an "elective" surgery, so it got cancelled for a year.

After the replacement, Rehab and PT were going good for the first month or so. Then the swelling would get so bad they would cancel the session. The rehab people actually went into panic mode and sent me to a vascular specialist because they thought I had a clot causing the swelling. No clots found.

They even tried acupuncture..... until they could watch the swelling increase when they had the needles in..... They cancelled doing that immediately. Also cancelled any more PT.

And.... here I am, almost 2 years later, no answers, no forward progress, fighting with insurance.

There are a lot more little things that went along throughout this ordeal, but way too much to begin trying to tell. It's been a really life-changing event.

Sorry for the long post.

What model surge protector. I’ve been thinking of adding one to my panel.

And what size new UPS?

David, it looks like your water will drain to the front. Are you planning on connecting it to the other gutter and then to your storage tank?

LS, sorry for the bad news, wish I could advise you but I don't have any expertise.

True, Don. Would have preferred to slope other direction, but sun refused to cooperate. There will be gutters, but not connected to catchment collection. As it is we don’t collect from all the house roof.

Thank you for the short version. Wife went through this so we have some experience. One of the keys to making progress on reducing swelling over time is that there is not a lot of scar tissue from surgery is one thing we learned. Excessive scar tissue can interfere with blood vessels healing up and cause swelling. Wife had swelling going on up to a year or so but it got gradually less and less over time. Not sure how to fix this except another surgery. I would explore this theory to see first if some testing can be done via MRI or other means to confirm or rule out

It's actually on the meter base. Fits behind the meter. Here's the specs: image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

The UPS is the Cyberpower 1500W. I would have to get it out of the cabinet to get the actual model number.....

Fritz, I hope having another doc look at it will bring new ideas as to cause of the problem. Eventually they will figure it out.

Cut about 8” of plastic with the new battery in the sawzall and battery was too low, so put it on charger.
Messed with the non working corded sawzall. Checked brushes, manually moved plunger in out to turn motor, did get one stink bug out of the fan area. Messing with the trigger lock button and it started running again. Problem in trigger area.
Got the old projection tv case cut into chunks and bagged and swept up the mess.
Then I heard momma snagglepuss so let her in to lay on me awhile.
IMG_7712.JPG

Ran all my dewalt tools with the battery, they still work. Need to test how long battery will last now that it’s charged.

I want to make PVC pipe holders for my battery tools to get them better organized need to research what sizes are used.

And why I like seeing snow up on the mountain, far far away from any need for me to shovel, plow, blow, or drive.

What does it cost for the surge protector from the utility? My utility has a similar program, but it costs $6/month and I have 2 buildings and I have 2 meters. I'm thinking about just getting a surge protector that connects to one of the 220 breakers, it is suppose to give whole house protection.

68°F and no rain

Busy day ahead. Making my roasted garlic curry pumpkin soup for H&F later.

Have a couple hours to work on my short wall before heading for town to get rest of my aluminum for the PV rack and a couple in town errands.

H&F will be at our house so need to be back in time.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I don't look forward to winter snow and ice but it happens every year in most of the places I've lived in.
In the winter I would actually prefer it to stay a bit colder and just be snow. This nonsense of thawing and making mud then freezing ad being rougher then a cob is a royal pain. All of my vehicle have studded tires and or tire chains. Heck my IH574 does so little work most years in the summer now I didn't even pull the tire chains off last year. Made it easy to prep her for winter :D
