Thanks for all the comments. Nature sure can be impressive.

The waterfalls were just outside of Hilo, basically on way back to airport.

We didn’t fly anywhere near our place, located the other direction. We did do an overfly back in 2006 when we were building and I wanted an aerial perspective. This was before the great internet mapping assets or drones.

Sodamo comes from...

Drew, I suspect we’ll be talking about this pics along time.

RNG, there are flight restrictions in place. I think they were 1000’ over the water, 3000’ over the land near volcano.

As mentioned, perhaps a once in lifetime opportunity. Initially, the frugal me winced at the $400 for the 2 of us, but so so glad we did it. Talking with my friend Malury, we reasoned that as this was pretty much our only cost compared to those that had to travel here specially, we got quite a bargain.

As for rebuilding. Rumor is Zone 1, possibly Zone 2 may see building restrictions. Realistically, many should not have been allowed in first place, but like those that continually rebuild in known hazard areas I’d probably better not say anything that might be politically misconstrued.

We have some nice light shade this morning. Unfortunately it will soon all be gone as the only white stuff in the sky is a criss cross of vapour trails from an unusually busy Monday morning exodus of planes.

I found a great spot to spend an hour or two on the bank of the larger pond. There are no fish in there, but it does have the benefit of having a few trees where I could hide from the mid day sun. There is one alder in particular that offers deep shade, only problem is -

sheep in the shade.jpg no space left for me !

Roy, hope only the odd minor non-conformance comes your way. You're a pro, luck is only allowed if it's been fully documented in your quality manual :)

Roy, Good Luck! Just keep the front door locked so they can't come in.

surprisingly cool 61 out now, what a nice change from the heat.
Lady from food pantry coming over this morning to help me weed, should be a great day for it.

Don, I love the front suspension on that tractor, the whole axle moves to steer?

Eric, great pic. Don't want to overheat the lamb chops. I wonder how their behavior changes after they lose their winter coats.

Sodamo pictures are beautiful and scary at the same time. The power of Mother Nature and how we are helpless in some situations

53 going to 86 and sunny...feels great outside again.

Happy Birthday, Mostly!

Roy, good luck.

Eric, I see one spot you can stretch out with your head resting on a nice soft wool "pillow."

Spent several hours "unplanting" our garden yesterday. Primarily because of two reasons:

1). we had flooding rains several times in May and June soon after planting and some plants died, others were stunted.

2.) we used the wrong landscape cloth. Like Buckeyefarmer reported, our fabric seemed to produce a bumper crop of grass underneath. I placed it between rows, carefully pounding in the big staples, and tucking the ends. But by yesterday, the fabric had swelled up like one of those inflatable jumping houses used at kids birthday parties...the grass was pushing up so hard that it was pulling out staples. Once I removed it, the grass underneath was greener and healthier than the grass out in the open. (The directions did say after placing the cloth, cover with mulch or landscape rock).

Well, we at least harvested a few tomatoes, jalapenos, beans and okra. In fact the row of okra and 3 rows of flowers are all that we saved. Now, I'll have to live by way of Drew's garden for the rest of the season...so keep the photos coming, friend.

Son and DIL came over last night for a cookout and belated birthday party...he has started reloading, so was great to hear him talk about it.

Was planning a day trip today to take advantage of the great weather, but we were up way too late, and have more to do outside, so we'll plan another day.

Good morning all, 53 going to 85 and sunny. Slept in this morning.:) Hope to get some more done in the shop. Wife was hopeful that her loom would be done soon until I told her what needed done. Cut roller to length and mount ratchet wheel after I brown it. Blacksmith two brackets to hold the reed and one for the tension rope and brown them. Build the rack to hold 360 balls of warp string. Glue emery cloth to the roller. Then work out the bugs and get it all lined up. Sure won't take long.:)

Roy hope the audit goes well.

Mostly, Happy Birthday.

Eric, I have heard of people going fishing and not baiting their hooks so the fish would not bother them, that pond would be perfect. :)

Don, $700 does sound like a fair price to me as well.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

Enjoying the cool weather on the porch. Birds are really noisy, esp the mocking bird.
Dad broke his siclebar mower, again. Some bearing went out, said it is going to be a real pain to fix. Said he would bale what he had down and wouldnt make any more hay. He's 94 and can hardly do it, think it's finally registering.
He does want to keep fields mowed. Wants bush hog. I recommended a flail, but he doesnt know what they are.

You are blessed that he is so able. Even though it is hard I bet it keeps him young at heart and healthy. Stressful dealing with it but my guess is that it is worth it in the long run. Prayers sent. Ed
