Good morning!!!!

Good morning, low 2 high 10°F. No wind. Snow.
The freezing rain/ice pellets stopped and changed over to snow. That, I can handle better.

I had to learn metric system to US measure for work. I still don't know the temperature conversions, but lucky me, the weather station I use gives me the option of Celery or Fahrenheit. I have it set to F. I do know that with asphalt cement 200°C tar is 400°F +/- a few degrees and it is still tar. As far as I am concerned the Celery stick doesn't make sense because -40 is the same on either scale, and after the boil point it all goes the other way.
Fun fact, the imperial gallon is bigger than a US gallon by 20%.

I will see about plowing this morning. At least run my chains up and down the driveway to help break up the ice.

Have a safe day all

Good morning.
It’s 58 and not going to change much throughout the day.

Just checked the Martha’s Vineyard weather, it’s 500 foot overcast, 5 miles visibility, wind is from the southeast at 21 kts. The wind is forecast to pick up substantially. I expect it to be bumpy on the approach, hopefully the enroute portion will be smooth enough.

Not much else going on, got to get going now.

Good Morning!!!! 38F @ 4:30AM. Sunny. High 56F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
The rain forecast for this weekend has disappeared from the 10-day, and next Wednesday's is down to 0.18". As expected.

Did some reading up on hiking boots yesterday, and thought I'd try a pair of Keens. I have a pair of their work boots that have been comfortable, and aside from breaking off one of the speed lace hooks, have been sturdy for the past 12 years. But the reviews complain that the soles come unglued, and what is supposed to be a wide fit isn't. Sheesh.

Was thinking maybe the Eureka, CA area would make a good home, until I read about the high earthquake danger, high gas prices, and foggy summers. Next I remembered a friend that moved to Eugene, OR after he lost his house in the Camp Fire. Rented for a year, then built his dream home. No sales tax in Oregon, but higher property taxes to make up for it. Much cheaper gas prices. What one hand giveth, the other taketh away. A huge lake not far out of town looks like fun, might be worth a trip.

Internet kept shutting down and coming back on most of the day, making the research challenging. Ended up walking away from the desk several times to find a better use for my time.

Stoked the wood stove all day yesterday trying to stay warm. Emptied the wood dolly, so broke into the fresh pallet of wood in the garage. The new pallets hold much less wood than the old ones, so it's a good thing that so far it's been a warm winter. High was only in the low 40s F yesterday, trying to make up for it I guess. While standing in front of the stove enjoying the warmth, I noticed it was spitting snow outside. Ugh.

Spent some time cleaning up the garage in preparation for some machining I need to do today for a friend. A bit of milling and drilling on his valve covers to make them easier to install. Shouldn't take more than an hour and I'll have the rest of the day to putter.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Morning all, grey and very warm for this time of year at 59
Alergist yesterday for patch test, 2 more visits this week to read them.
No heavy work until Saturday when I need to move some trunks to ready them for milling.

Ground soggy here too, mud usually fun to drive in with correct vehicle, just not in lawns!

Stay safe and be well,

Back to Cambodia and the different Wats.
First place I have been where the geckos were large and bite!
Also, need to have a good guide, they still have land mines laying around.

60 going to 71, the crocus have been blooming for a week, and all of the chipmunks in the yard have been super active! That means more snow is coming. 😁

RNG, good luck with your hiking boot search. There are so many good options, but of course trying them on is key to a happy fit...it helps if you have a store that carries several brands.

RS, interesting US chart...would be curious to see it with a line plotted for demand. Production dropped off since demand went down during the lockdown...I wonder if US production has returned enough to keep up with demand. I went to that website but didn't see that as an option.

Mostly, that's a lot of fish! Are any of those tags designated as prize tags?

Well, since the previous chart I posted dealt World Oil Production, allow me to post this one which is specific to the US:

Here's a link to the interactive graph that produced that chart:

U.S. Crude Oil Production - Historical Chart

I set the chart to show a 5 year time frame for the image I posted above (same as previous charts I posted)

Using your cursor at the chart at that link and hover over the line on the graph, you can see that US Production started a steep dive in March of 2020 and finally bottoming out in August of 2020.

Since that point in time, production has been on a fairly steady uptrend, save for another steep drop in February of 2021 (which may well correspond to another wave of ... alligators ? ...)

Of course production drops when you have a huge surplus and cheap prices, but what we’ve lost over the last year plus is the ability to produce more oil quickly if needed. You can’t block drilling, shale, and transport and not expect lower domestic production at some point and higher prices. If you want to know the state of domestic oil production just check the prices at the pump. What have they done since January 2021? Charts be damned.

58 was the low, 69 later, then cold, warm, cold, etc…

Other car club meeting last night. Not much else going on right now. Playing in the backyard getting ready for spring. I’m getting patches of green all over the yard, trees are budding, hope springs eternal.

Prices are up everywhere, parts shortages, lack of qualified help, fuel prices, crime. This is not a political party problem but a problem for everyone one that needs our attention now before it’s too late

Good morning!. 32° this morning, roughly 30° cooler than yesterday morning.

Lot of rain yesterday, but doesn't seem to be as many reports of flooding as last week. Most, but not all of the snow is gone from the property. Going to be a bit of a weather roller coaster for the next week or so.

Gas this morning at the local station on the way to work $3.39, diesel $3.99. Looks like i have $0.26 off/gallon for the first 20 gallons in rewards. Will be over $0.30/gallon by the time I need some gas for the truck.

Been a quiet week so far. Been wandering off early since it is so quiet. Let the "young" guys handle it.

I did get an awesome call yesterday. 25 year old machine, they replaced all of the pumps because they couldn't decide which one had a shaft seal leak. Now nothing works and they don't have a pressure gauge to begin to do any testing. I guess they wanted to know what the secret hand shake was required to magically fix it with no information. 🤦‍♂️

The other good one was about anti-freeze. The latest engines require different anti-freeze due to the temperature they run at. Got a call and guy said he didn't really want to find a different anti-freeze and didn't think adding ethylene glycol would hurt anything. Told him that was fine, as long as he didn't mind voiding his engine warranty and would need to have the engine removed, stripped and both the block and head boiled to get rid of the sludge build up. He thought I was kidding. I assured him I wasn't. He decided maybe he did need the correct anti-freeze. 🤦‍♂️

Other than entertainment value, I don't think I am going to miss those calls.

Everyone stay safe out there.

Speaking of soles coming unglued. These were Clark shoes I think.
For hiking I use Merrill.

Oil prices tanked with the drop in demand, which resulted in drop in production. Overall demand hasn’t soared recently, just the price due to actions regarding the supply source. Supply source vs demand
This is all on the big guy. I’m sure the alligators played a small part early on, but since the swamp wasn’t drained, the dangers has resurfaced.

Jed Clampett will make out good.

19°F and cloudy skies this morning with some light snow flurries, going up to 27° today. Snow is expected to start right at the beginning of the afternoon "rush" hour. That's always fun.

As of now, we're in for 1-3" of whatever ends up falling. Round one today should be snow, and wintry mix for round two tomorrow. Back up into the 50s & 60s next week. Weeeee!

-5 this morning. A "skiff" of snow yesterday but with 30 mph winds. Working on interior door and window trim for this 100 year old house. Used some Orange "paint stripper" yesterday, but now see that I need to go out and buy some "paint stripper wash", which appears to be made of acetone, methanol, xylene and benzene. Sounds nasty. The "wash clean up" will be worse the than the stripper.

No spring here for awhile...
