Wife & I lived in Va all our life, 67 her, 69 me.
What ruined our area was LU (Liberty University) & people not acclimating. They leave NY, CA, etc., move here bringing their ideas with them.

Can’t imagine too many from CA and NY going to liberty.
My youngest son’s best friend in HS went 1 yr to liberty, then transferred to UMaryland, just graduated as a civil Engineer.

I spent evening looking online at land in Floyd co and the area. Nothing stood out. My wife liked one, but then I looked at the neighbors and it was junk and trailers. One place we liked a month ago now has contract on it.

More choices in Montgomery co.
I went to scout camp one year at blue ridge reservation in Montgomery county, liked that area.

Old friends of ours have a place on Leesville lake, and a family at church has a place on smith mt lake.
Still like the lot in rockingham co, but wife doesn’t want too close to her moms place.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 27° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 34° with cloudy skies and wind. Grocery shopping went well with well stocked shelves. My old torpedo heater would not fire up the other day. Found that a couple of hose had gotten so old that hey had crack in them. Fixed the hoses so they would not leak. Heater works. I now need to disassemble heater and replace hoses. Did not do laundry as planned. Will get it started today. At 4 am this morning my son finally cleared Fredericksburg on his way to Miami. Going to be a long week for him.
Birds like my new feeder.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

good morning all
30 degrees out and freezing rain this morning, should make the commute miserable for some.

I'm headed down for a haircut and it should be interesting.
Have to get there exactly on time, they are very serious about not having too many clients overlap.
Last time, which was my first time in this shop, I had a very nice 6 foot tall guy with flowing big blonde hair,
perhaps a little eyeliner and some really nice nails. ....Ok, here's a little of my DEI/tolerance training; sure a transvestite
cutting my hair is a new experience. Frankly he was a nice guy (lady?) so who cares.
I'm not sure if he was transgender, transvestite, or what.

This whole bit about how one identifies oneself is perplexing. I asked one lady at church why she signed her
emails with her name and then (her/she) afterwards. I guess it is solidarity with folks of different persuasions.
I'd like to sign mine Drew (me). Let them guess.... :) ;)

I'm sure if some of you have gay or alternative life style kids this would be more meaningful.
My home town was half gay when I grew up here, so we learned to be very tolerant of other life styles.
Sort of like growing up near Key West or Provincetown.

Just seems like there are more variations out there now. Probably more like folks are just coming out.
which I think is good.
Can't repress what you are.
My uncle was Captain of a US Navy destroyer and later on in life I realized why he never married.
He had to hide it all his life. We always thought he was a hard ass just because. But he had to be in that situation.
He retired from the Navy and taught AP high school kids in Alexandria VA for 30 years into his 80's. And he never brought a friend
home, which is what his family would have wanted. But back then, well for many, you just couldn't.

so let's be tolerant of those who are different.

Good morning, low temp is 23 and going to a high of 32°F. Wind E 13 mph. Snow at times heavy. There is a weather advisory in effect.
I think the weather advisories should read; "this is Northern Ontario and winter, you might get snow, freezing rain or straight rain."

The snow I was expecting overnight didn't happen, so I will conserve energy until it does.

There is lots of cheap land up here and quite a few 'unorganised' townships. Keep in mind that unorganised townships come with do it yourself roads maintenance.
They are also farther away from the beer store. :(

Have a safe day all

27 outside this AM. Heading to mid 40's. Power came back on a few hours ago. Everything checked out OK.

Good thing I had my generator serviced a few weeks ago. A little Honda, I cannot remember how old type. Think I will invest in a house hookup and maybe upgrade the unit. If we did not have animals it would not be a big deal, but we found out the hard way we need the well.

Lots of outside work to do the next week or two. When the snow melts, branch duty will be at least a two day job.

The tractor was fun on the driveway, even with no blade or rake attached, used the bucket to push stuff out of the way. Down and up, done. Let the sun do the rest. Took longer to clean it off than to do the driveway. LOL.

This was a major snow event for us and this area. Fast moving, heavy and wet. At one point in the back yard it was white out conditions. We have not had something like this in many years. Guess we got complacent.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

Lots of good places for land here. But is there good access to care that you may need as you age. I can think of some great places to live here in the USA. But as we age need more care and need it to be accessible. City kind of moved out to me. Closest hospital is 5 miles from me. When my youngest son was born it was 25 miles to closest hospital. When I moved here in 1972 it was considered rural country with farms. All the farms are gone. I am surrounded by $1m homes. Glad I have been able to live here and that services have moved out to me. But today I would not be able to afford the property let alone the house and buildings.
