Good morning!!!!

Good Morning!!!! 76F @ 6:30AM. A mix of clouds and sun. High 97F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Last night, one forecaster's weather model predicted severe thunderstorms for this area this morning, but so far there's no sign of 'em on the radar. A week ago a line of thunderstorms caused many fires north of here that are still burning today. So far it's chewed up more than 80,000 acres.

Glad Gray2 managed to stay out of the new pot, Don. Looking forward to trying your tomatillo recipe! Sounds like a salsa recipe, is it? Brought home a different kind of tortilla chip from Costco last night than the usual brand, which no longer appears on the shelves. The new ones are much lower in salt, good news for the ol' kidney stones, but I'll have to dig a little to find out how much oil they contain. Tastes like less, and tastes good...

New helper really outdid himself on the van's fuel tank installation job yesterday. First he broke off one of the impossible to glue vent line guides, then he broke the plastic barb off one of the anti-rollover valves. Nice bit of ham fisted carelessness. I also caught the hippie using a ScotchLoc type tap on the wiring harness, and drilling a bunch of poorly spaced holes for relays that open the area behind the dash to water. I'd planned to remove the dash for other reasons after the installation was done, but it now looks like I'll also have to revise much of that work just to keep the van from leaking or catching fire. The mechanic wasn't pleased when I pointed these things out, and it's also clear that he doesn't get his own work done because he can't take his eyes off these knuckleheads. And true to form, he's working on two other engines instead of mine. A leopard never changes his spots...

No joy with the BBQ grill price match at either Home Depot or the big hardware store (Orchard Supply) yesterday, as neither would match an internet merchant's price. I'd read both store's price match policies before approaching their representatives, and pointed out that neither expressly excluded internet merchants, but that didn't get me anywhere. Labor Day isn't too far off, so I'll keep an eye out for a sale until then...

Stopped by the BMW shop and took more photos of the old /2 they had there, noticing several thing that weren't done correctly when it was refurbished. Now I wonder if in copying it I'm not also unwittingly copying the wrong way of doing other things.:confused2: Reached out to a buddy that's built several of these, but he's vacationing in Switzerland (what a great way to beat the heat!). Also asked the widow/owner of the motorcycle shop about purchasing some parts from her husband's treasure trove in the back building, but she says she can't find anything back there because it's so poorly organized. She told me she spent three days this week looking for a shift lever, motivated by BMW's near $300 price tag for a new one, and gave up. She didn't seem to interested in my offer of help, so I think it's time to go internet shopping in Germany.

Last night I asked the service tech at Costco to fix the leak on one of the tires when they were rotated, but when I got the truck back he told me that no leak was found. Then he said they hadn't checked the valve stem or core, or broken the tire down to actually look inside for a hole. So I asked him if he could do that, as I'd just have to bring it back when it leaked again. He didn't look too happy but agreed to do it, but then said he still didn't find anything inside, either. Just a bunch of corrosion on the rim where the tire seated, which he attributed to moisture from my "home compressor". I asked him why the corrosion hadn't been cleaned off when the tires were mounted only 18 months ago. He assured me it had, at which point I realized I was wrestling with a pig and gave up. Another case of something (free mounting and tire rotation) being too good to be true, that turns out not to be.

TGIF gang!

This weekend I'm gonna finish up processing the logs we dropped and maybe move the firewood logs to make room for the moving an trailer we will store our household goods in.

Got my new Pallet Forks late yesterday, going to test them this evening after work (or maybe tomorrow because wife has a date scheduled for us).

Happy Friday!!!!

Be well all,
David

Daughter is having trouble with smoky air, wife picked up air conditioner to put in bedroom window so daughter can sleep.. wrestled that thing for awhile trying to get it safely installed last night, might have to build a shelf to support it outside. Set aside and will try again tonight/tomorrow. I know how she feels, I am normally impacted worse than her, but the meds I am on right now are really doing the job.

Randy, nice mower. Sounds like you are getting the insurance stuff done quickly.

61°F and mostly clear skies this morning, going up to 77° today. I'll take it! We had some spotty storms move through the STL area yesterday evening. We only got a little more of that weird sunshine rain, but friends in other areas reported strong winds and plenty of hail. Glad that missed us.

Plumber showed up yesterday morning and worked until almost 6:30. He replaced all of the old pvc pipes with copper, and re-routed some of the upstairs drains, in addition to changing the layout in the basement bathroom and removing all of the basement kitchen pipes. More progress.

The carpenter got the new wet wall built for the bathroom, and finished taping/mudding/sanding the basement bedroom. It's ready to paint now. More progress.

Congrats on the new-to-you mower, Randy.

Got a decent start on my mod project in my suites yesterday, French doors reversed, SS table units assembled, new refrigerators installed. Today, I'll get tile layout started.
Here's the King Suite:

if I could skip the hot sauce that looks mighty good Don.

mowed the nut orchard, a very dusty affair, but worth it, as I discovered
my first fig. A Celestial fig. In the fridge and will have for dessert. Wasn't sure it was ripe but
it was soft and sticky and almost leaking sugary fluid. I wonder if hummingbirds like these things...?

I ate one of my Mutsu apples today, as they were starting to disappear. Juicy, a little sweet, and not yet ripe. Another week.
