Good morning, while many are sweltering in high temps, I was tempted to fire up the woodburner yesterday. Warming a little today, expected high of 14C/57F.

Amazing how we treat our furry kids... next week is Kalani痴 birthday. She値l be 13. That痴 great for a boxer. So I知 thinking, ought to really celebrate, maybe even splurge for a steak. A bit more thought and maybe a steak would be nice, but she doesn稚 chew as well as she used to. Picked up a nice package of lean, local, ground beef (same as I get for me) and will have it ready on the 16th. Candles?

I see the candle dilemma, your are wondering if Kalani prefer would prefer to eat them raw as appetizer, or flambeed for desert.
Maybe just stick with the beef.... :D

If the attack / murder was in a National Park, Refuge, etc. can the Federal Govt. prosecute him?

Looks like the July 4 shooting may have occurred in a National Forest, not a National Park, and apparently the crimes cover at least two jurisdictions.

Here's a write up I found on our county Facebook Group page that goes into the gory details. Skip if yer not interested...

7/8/2020: Oroville, CA: The Sierra County Poker Flat Shooter John Thomas Conway (40) is in custody at Butte County Jail after being released from Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California earlier today.
Conway was shot and injured in Sierra County on July 4th after he tried to run over two wildlife officers and then fled south on Saddleback Road towards Downieville, leading to an officer-involved shooting and deployment of a K-9.
The officers had been searching for the lost 15-year-old son of Danville physician Dr. Ari Gershman (who Conway allegedly shot and killed the day prior in the Poker Flat area of Sierra County) when they encountered Conway.
(***Read more details in the following Sierra County Sheriff's Office Press Release included below.)
Conway was booked at 01:45 PM PDT today (Wednesday), according to VINELink - Empowering Victims of Crime.
Conway is on a NO BAIL HOLD and has a hearing tomorrow at 3:00 PM in Butte County Superior Court, according to the jail.
Conway is being held on three separate Butte County cases involving charges unrelated to the Sierra County shootings, according to the jail.
Conway is charged with vandalism, vehicle theft and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person in Butte County, according to the jail.
Conway has not yet been charged with the crimes that took place over the Independence Day weekend in Sierra County, according to the jail.

7/7/2020: The Sierra County Poker Flat Murder Suspect has been identified as John Thomas Conway (40) of Oroville.
Sierra County Sheriff's Office Press Release
On July 3, 2020, at about 1600 hours, the Sierra County Sheriff痴 Office received information that two persons sustained gunshot wounds by an assailant in the Poker Flat area of northwestern Sierra County.
The assailant was driving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV).
Neither victim knew the shooter, and the act appeared to be a random act of violence.
After the two victims were transported out of the area, a 911 call came in from a 15-year-old caller in the same general area.
The 15-year-old told the 911 dispatcher that he and his father, who was later identified as Dr. Ari Gershman, a physician from Danville, encountered the suspect while driving down a dirt road.
The suspect opened fire on Dr. Gershman and his son, killing Dr. Gershman.
The juvenile son fled into the forest to escape the shooter and find an area where he could call for help.
Throughout the night of July 3, and into the following day, the Sierra County Sheriff痴 Office coordinated a massive law enforcement response to the area. Responding agencies included:

U.S. Forest Service
California Highway Patrol
California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW)
Grass Valley Police Department
Nevada, Placer. Plumas, Shasta, and Yuba counties

Additionally, helicopters from the California Highway Patrol, Washoe County (Nevada), and Placer County Sheriff痴 Office assisted throughout the incident.
Initial responding officers were able to locate Dr. Gershman and his vehicle.
Officers searched the surrounding area for the suspect and missing juvenile.
Officers remained in the area searching throughout the night.
As day broke the following morning, tactical teams were assembled and continued searching the area.
In the afternoon of July 4, CDFW wildlife officers and a K-9, using human tracking skills, hiked through the forest with a Sierra County Deputy tracking the missing juvenile.
Although the juvenile had fled a considerable distance, the officers were able to track and locate him.
Even though the juvenile had fled the shooting and spent the night alone in the forest, he was in good physical condition and did not require medical attention.
After giving him some food and water, officers transported him to the Sheriff痴 Office, where he was reunited with his mother.
Shortly after locating the juvenile, the suspect approached two CDFW wildlife officers and a USFS officer at high speed in the UTV.
The officers were maintaining a checkpoint on Saddleback Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The suspect failed to stop and tried to run over the two wildlife officers and then fled south on Saddleback Road towards Downieville.
A third wildlife officer was positioned down the road in Downieville and started driving up the hill to block the suspects vehicle.
A vehicle collision ultimately occurred as officers were attempting to take the suspect into custody.
The suspect immediately represented a threat to the officers, leading to an officer-involved shooting and deployment of a K-9.
The suspect was taken into custody, and after receiving medical treatment at the scene, he was transported to the hospital.
The suspect has been identified as John Thomas Conway, age 40, Oroville.
In addition to the above law enforcement agencies who assisted in this incident, I would like to thank the Downieville and Sierra City Fire Departments for their quick response and medical treatment of the shooting victims.
I would also like to thank the Sierra County businesses and numerous local volunteers who made food for the officers involved in the incident.
The Sheriff痴 Office is working closely with Sierra County District Attorney who anticipates announcing charges soon.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to please contact the Sierra County Sheriff痴 Office at (530) 289-3700.

7/6/2020: Poker Flat Fatal Shooting Update: Lung doctor from Danville, California identified as victim of Poker Flat Shooter.
A Danville, California doctor was shot and killed over the holiday weekend while off-roading with his 15-year-old son.
His son escaped the gunman and was rescued after spending more than a day lost in the remote Sierra County back country near Poker Flat, elevation 4,751.
Two other unnamed people were also shot by the gunman earlier in the day, according to the Sierra County Sheriff痴 Office.
The unnamed gunman was arrested Saturday after leading deputies on a chase in an ATV side by side before he was shot then taken into custody on Saddleback Road, about one mile north of Highway 49.
Ari Gershman, a 45-year-old pulmonary doctor, was driving his new four-wheel drive Jeep with his son when he was shot by a 途andom gunman near Downieville.
The boy called police after escaping and spent 30 hours alone in the Tahoe National Forest before a search party found him Saturday.
Dr. Gershman is survived by three children and a wife who is undergoing chemotherapy.

And in other news, yesterday three female Chico State University students were arraigned on arson charges for attempting to fire bomb a Chico Police Department cruiser at the end of May. One of them almost blow herself up as she lit, then droped, a Molotov cocktail, which she then picked up and tossed on the car. It harmlessly rolled off and caused a small fire in the concrete parking garage. Apparently it was all caught on video surveillance cameras, and other cameras later in the day caught the girls filling cups and liquor bottles with gasoline at a local station. The cops got the license number of the get away car from that video, and used it to track down two of them. The third was captured the next day. The three said the were protesting police brutality.

Police brutality in Chico? The police in Chico aren't even allowed to arrest and jail a vagrant; you almost have to kill somebody to get in trouble with the law. Or try to blow up a police car...

good morning all.
sticky 75 out going up to 87 today with showers likely. Real mold producing weather...

had to happen finally but started feeling crummy yesterday and it got worse last night. Headache, nausea and diarrhea.
going to up some meds and likely spend more time in bed today. Nothing I didn't expect, but not pleasant. As long as I don't have a fever,
I'm good. If I hit 100.4, the hospital wants me back asap. Am wondering if that booster shot I got yesterday which lab tests said I actually didn't need
pushed me over the edge chemically. Or just could be normal chemo stuff...

One day before farm sells buyer's attorney now declares there are two more forms I need to sign, and get notarized and back to them immediately.
After all this time they drop this on me, sure hope business office here has a scanner. My attorney already had to drive out here once and get forms notarized and take back, this last batch should have been included. Worse is the attorneys will simply bill out more for their screwups...though my guy is a real gentleman, older fellow who I really like. I didn't think I needed to bring a scanner with me to assisted living, thought my baby printer would be enough...
bit cranky because I don't feel well, this too shall pass.

covid count jumping up every day in Beaufort County, not good at all. When will this end?
Pictures of beaches with masses of folks crammed in shoulder to shoulder, what are they thinking? And what unfortunate innocent
will they pass this disease on to?
Makes as much sense as those allegedly educated college students RNG has mentioned firebombing a police car. I hope they go to jail with a felony conviction
and get thrown out of college. These are not our future leaders...

Roy, glad you're better...gotta stay well so you can sight in that new Ruger.

RS, hadn't heard about the calcium issue...will have to check it out.

Kyle, glad the milk did the trick...we have cooled off hot pepper burn that way when eating, if there's no sour cream on the dish.

Eric, 57F? Lucky duck.

Don, is Kristy still in the gator business?

Got too windy yesterday, so maybe do spraying this afternoon.

Hang in there Drew. That attorney/buyer reads like what we had to deal with when buying our retirement spread. The first place we focused on wanted 3 or 5 K down with closing in 90 days or forfeit. The seller drug things out, it seemed every time we submitted stuff for them to sign it was weeks turn around, then they finally couldn't sign the last papers under the deadline. Later we found out they had done that to other attempted buyers. I chalked it up to an expensive lesson and told them to roll the papers up and stick it where the sun don't shine.

The lawyers can always drag stuff out to penalize you.

But your right, like a bowel movement this too shall pass.

Poured first cup of coffee. 67° with some fog this morning. Heading to 91° with sunny skies and possibility of thunderstorms in evening. Got .19" rain yesterday. Just enough to make weeds grow. Went to pickup my prescription at Walmart yesterday. Pulled into a parking space that call this number to pickup a prescription. Called and a few minutes later it was delivered to my car. I was worried about going into store with dog in car and having to leave them out in the heat. Then went to Aunts place and repaired a couple of electronic items that had quit working for her. Well not so much as to figure out how they shold work. My day will start with me installing a new Camera Doorbell on back door. Then stay in the cool house.
Finally yellow lily has bloomed.

Drew, Best wishes you feel better. Hope the papers get done and closing goes good. No sure about Justice being done. There have been 12 shootings on local freeways last 3 weeks. One of the shooter is already out on $500 bond.

RNG, so much going on with not peaceful protest. Starting to see kickback from the silent majority. Sure hope it stays peaceful.

Mostly, Happy Birthday.

Buckeye, did it take 15 minutes to grill Chicken?

Roy, take care with vertigo. Glad you are better today.

David, good to hear Sophie's is healing good.

Wngsprd, what is the leading tick and flea preventative. Sassy is on Serseto collar.

Everyone, stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

Good Morning!!!! 73F @ 4M. Plentiful sunshine. High 99F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Looks like today will be the last to stay under the century mark for the next week, with the peak coming on Sunday at 106F. Overnight temps in the low 70s high 60s will at least give the house some time to cool off, though, and the increased overnight humidity will help keep the fire danger down. And with no high winds on the way, it looks like we'll be safe from power shutoffs, too.

firetruckBurnPileScott.jpg
Here's a shot of the firetruck in action with my neighbor and I keeping a burn pile under control, Ken. It's a Ford F750 with an on board 750 gallon tank and a 750 gpm max rated pump. Mid '70s production, all Walerous components. Spent yesterday afternoon pouring through installation/operator manuals for all the hardware, and have a roughed out operating procedure put together. Just have to spend time making sure that the labels on the truck match the labels I use in the procedures, then start practicing. Looks like there's some maintenance due as well; it's been almost a year since I got it and I've not touched it other than to throw a tarp over it and keep the water tank full.

Good luck with a smooth closing, Drew. I didn't hear anything in your report about more low balling, and I hope it stays that way. And I hope your reaction is a short one.

One of the coldest Junes I've ever spent was on a motorcycle touring the English countryside, Eric. I think I had webs between my toes before I got home.

Happy belated birthday, Bruce. Hope you pedal your way around the sun many more times in the future!

I like Kyle's idea, Drew. Maybe make sure the buyer pays for the insurance premiums, too.

It was spaghetti night here, and I made such a pig out of myself my stomach has kept me up most of the night gurgling.:confused2:

Your soundman's story sounds familiar, Paul. Back in my misplaced youth, I made the mistake of lighting a couple of tablespoons of flash cracker powder with a kitchen match. Lost both eyebrows and most of the hair on the front half of my head, and got a real bad sunburn all over my face. The stump I was trying to light didn't even notice...

Nice to have a button for the power door locks; the install went very smoothly yesterday.

Never heard back from VOX, my luck they'll call while I'm in town this afternoon.

Gonna head outside in a little bit and try to get a peek at the new comet. Then try to get a little more shut-eye.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!:dance1:

Good morning! 83˚F heading to the high 90s.
FireWise is on Summer furlough but we are still doing cedarcide in the park. It's getting brutal. My chain saw's chain came off yesterday and it had a loop in it that bent the chain, I couldn't get it turning on the bar so I went to put my new spare chain on and it was 2" too short. I double checked the size on the package and my bar and they were both the same, 16". Someone must have switched chains and put a 14"chain in a 16" package. I had to revert back to loppers the last hour. Two 16" chains on order.

Wngspred, Yes Christy still plays with gators.
Mostly, Happy Birthday!

The neighbors are over their covid sickness. His lasted 2 weeks, tested positive. Hers only lasted 3 days, no fever, and she is still waiting for her test results (10 days).

Watermelons are planted and should be ready by Thanksgiving. Time to make another batch of salsa from my tomatoes.

Happy birthday Mr. Mostly!

More of the triple H’s here too, around 90 with heavy rain overnight tonight.
Heading out to dress my clam shell driveway, then see what I can find to get into after that. I need to repair a support on my spraying tractor, might tackle that.
Ordered materials for the next projects, 5 tons of white stone and a ton of all purpose sand, 2 2x12 and 8 4x4s. Hope. I didn’t miss anything.

Have a good day folks.

RNG, what size hose do you have on your firetruck and how many feet? What is the flow rate of you our nozzles? I's always good to know how many minutes before you run out of water.

Will you be able to fill up at a FD connection, is it close?

Good morning.

86F and mostly sunny @ 10:00, currently "feels like" 91F ... predicted to go up to an actual high temp of 92F. Today is supposed to be the worst day of our little "heat wave". Also under an air quality alert for ground level ozone.

Was awoken by a big orange cat crawling up in the sack with me a couple of hours ago.

Not sure what all will be on today's menu, but I'm fairly certain that it will probably involve a good amount of time indoors.

Will probably water some plants and flowers at a minimum though.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day.

73°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 93° today. Pop-up storms all over the area yesterday kept us in the 80s.

Last day of the work week for me. Company-wide meeting scheduled for just after lunch today. Since all salary positions were cut back last week, I suspect the announcement will probably be the same for our hourly peeps. Tough times.

Tacos and fajitas ... yummy.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Mostly_.
