Tobacco free, 85 hours and counting ...

Last night was pretty ugly pain-wise ... was probably up a half a dozen times ... couldn't get to sleep for more than a couple hours at a time.

That I slept a lot yesterday could have had something to do with it I suppose.

Lots of updates on the fish front.

Hope to get down to the fish room here in a bit and get some work done down there ... if I can overcome the OxyContin stupor ...

Good afternoon all. Happy mother's day.
Wish i had planted potatoes yesterday.
Storms rolled in last night, rained all night. On and off rain today, overcast and cool at 60°.
After worship, took family out for mothers day, to Dobbin house in Gettysburg. Another tough prime rib, not their usual.

The longer you go, the better it gets, so wishing you the best. After smoking for more than 50 years, I quit on 7/11/2006, and my wife who had been smoking almost 50 years quit on 6/25/2007.

I do like fruits and vegetables ... so it isn't really that much of a stretch from that aspect.

This short Dr. Greger research U-tube came out this morning on the benefits of Kale and Red cabbage reducing oxidized LDL in your blood (the bad stuff)
I like Dr. Greger not only because I have met him in person several times but also because all his advice is backed by research, he is selling nothing, and he's funny.

NOTICE: at 23 seconds stop the video and read that page. It does not really work that good with smokers.
The Benefits of Kale and Cabbage for Cholesterol | NutritionFacts.org

I'm going to try it for 2 weeks (300g Red cabbage and kale a day) and then get a blood test to see where my LDL is at. I know everyone is different but I just care what it does to my blood cholesterol. I have been off all meds for three months and my Cardiologist say as long as the LDL is below 100 I can stay off statins. the first blood test after 3 weeks and my LDL was 95 and that is too close for comfort for me, like you said the best is to be close to 70, since we have a history. I'm giving my body a total of 3 months to adjust to the absence of statins but if I can't get lower, to at least the low 80s, I will put myself back on statins.

Because I don't consume any cholesterol the the LDL blood test is a constant but If I did eat cholesterol it would be up after each meal. I think that's why the Dr. allowed the just below 100 for me. I'll report back on this in several weeks.

Yeah! You are almost at 90 hr now.

Watch out for the depression coming off the Oxy. My mom cratered after she got off it after her hip surgery. She was on it for 3 months waiting for the surgery to fix her disconnected hip.

93 with heat index of 111

sure not going out in that...

Hoed a lot of corn today, and most of the garden.
Now paying bills, doing laundry, and keeping a/c at about 76 inside.
One good thing about bad arthritis, no desire to keep the house any cooler in the summer.
Have four ceiling fans slowly spinning to move it all around. I keep the office at 78 with a fan right overhead and that
is comfortable for me. Particularly sitting here in gym shorts, which are quite comfortable after sweating through two complete sets of clothes
today.

I should go out and pick peas again after dinner, when sun is down, as I have a car load of new red potatoes and snow peas to take to food pantry
tomorrow morning, and I bet I could fill another container. Just not sure I want to get sweaty again after shower and shave.
Perhaps I might punt and wait until early tomorrow morning to pick.

I got hot enough outside this morning hoeing corn my face got red and puffy and my left eustachian tube
plugged up, swollen I guess. Like I had gotten water in it...
Body was clearly talking to me to cool off. Which I did. Have been drinking lots of extra water and
fruit drinks today. Really should make a big batch of ice tea, have excess supply of tea bags going stale.

RS, I had veggie burgers today instead of hamburger and they were really delicious, particularly doctored up.
If you are a burger guy, try alternating between beef, salmon and veggie burgers.

I can't imagine how hard that must be to stop smoking. Both my parents smoked and they both died
of cancer, my father's laryngeal. Cigars for sure.
So many learned and rote habits, automatically grabbing for a smoke when A B or C.
Instant gratification and feeling better. Who wouldn't want that...but not at such a great cost.

RS you've got an uphill climb for awhile. Get off the drugs successfully, enjoy the good stuff while it lasts, and
then buy stock in chewing gum, as you are going to be going through a bunch. We are all rooting for you.
If I had gone through what you just did, after the shock wears off, I'd figure that the toothpaste was most likely caused by what
I ate, which is good news. It means you can eat something different and get healthier.
Good luck with this, you are going to be poked and prodded a bit for awhile.

How is your wife dealing with this? Can you do this kinda together?

That is a very important question. It is so much easier if both eat the same plant based diet.
I get amused when people shave off their hair in support of a cancer patient but have not heard of one changing to a plant based diet for support of a family member with heart disease.

Bird,

Thanks, I'm sure hoping that that turns out to be the case.

Honestly, the cravings really aren't that bad so far ... I guess I could attribute that to a combo of the pain, the OxyContin, and the Chantix (a stop smoking med) ... but I still find myself wanting one at various times (after eating, with my coffee, etc. etc.)

Probably a good thing that I'd have to roll one if I actually wanted to smoke ... the effort required to do so is just enough barrier not to bother ...

After smoking for more than 50 years, I quit on 7/11/2006, and my wife who had been smoking almost 50 years quit on 6/25/2007.

That's really quite a feat ... very well done on your guys part ...

Yeah, will do ... hopefully I'll only be on it for a couple more days - the 'script was only for 5 days and it isn't refillable.

The Chantix might keep me from cratering too bad.

I do like both kale and red cabbage.

Unfortunately I like the kale cooked with butter and vinegar ... and the cabbage cooked with pork.

I'll have a look at the video ... thanks ...

Ok then, Houston we have a problem.

I just went 34 miles round trip and got a head of red cabbage and a bunch of kale, steamed it and put some vegan, no oil, ranch dressing on it and some left over curry lentils - delicious. 300 g is a lot - about 1/4 head of red cabbage and and 3 stalks of kale.

It feels good afterwards knowing I have not contributed to my plaque build-up and I'm reducing my LDL, according to the research.

I don't mind dying I just don't want to contribute to it or endless operations till the last one.

Do another potential CBD candidate?

Wife stated the CBD oil for her hip pain while on Vicodin, cut the Vicodin dosage in half, then quarter, then just the CBD oil. Pain down to tolerable and increasing her activity level.

Several of our GM community can chime in with more expect opinion, but wife is glad she did the CBD.

Okay ... curry + lentils ... (love both)

Now we're talkin' ...

Tell me more about that ranch dressing.
