Lots going on this last week, prayers to all in need.

I took time off last week to build a 12x16 storage shed (10' walls). It has a 36"man door and 8' wide by 7' high garage door. We are over building it for sure, but wanted a good sturdy shed to store securely zero turn, etc. Short term our daughter that recently moved will put their belongings in it (they have not found a house yet, made offer on some land).

I was reminded several times per day that I am not young anymore and I have to rest often to keep going. We still have some sheathing to put on, then metal siding and trim. Garage door is sitting in back of pickup. Plenty more work, but getting there.

RNG, glad you sold the bike this time. I'm curious, when you list a vehicle on eBay, do you have to pay the 'flat rate' up front? Then after you sell, do they still take a percentage of the sale price? Reason why I am asking is that I have a restored '69 bug, a '72 bug that needs resto, and 2 complete motors that I want to sell. Hate the Craigslist BS.

ebay usually charges a listing fee, then takes a flat chunk of the selling price determined in brackets. The help pages on ebay are quite good for the details. Right now they're having a "special" where they're waiving the listing fee, and I was able to take advantage of that for this sale. FWIW, when the first buyer flaked out, the final value fee was waived, but I had to wait for the five day payment window to expire first. My recommendation is to set the deposit and final payment windows to be as short as possible, so the relisting can happen the very next week if the buyer flakes. I started this auction on Tuesday at 5:00PM PDST so that it would end exactly five days later, giving as much weekend time as possible for bidders to compete for it, and so that east coast people wouldn't be up at midnight trying to make last minute bids. That may have been a mistake because I had one bidder say he would have paid significantly more than the closing price, but he tried to snipe at the last minute and his internet connection screwed up. ebay tells buyers to place one bid, for the maximum amount they would pay, and be done with it. Snipers come in at the last minute and don't give other bidders a chance to run the price up, and that hurts sellers. Not sure how to get around that, though.

The buyer says he has someone able to pick the bike up this afternoon, and I hope that comes to pass. I'm a little nervous about the whole situation, being here on my own and all, but so far everything seems legit, payment has cleared through Paypal and is on its way to my bank. My only regret is that the selling price wasn't anywhere near what I could have gotten if I'd have parted the thing out, but that would be more time invested than I have to spare, and at the end of the day I really just need to free up the garage space. I did try to sell via Craig's List, but there's not much demand locally and out of area parties balked at coming all the way to Chico to pick the thing up. Oddly, the auction winner is having it delivered to the Los Angeles area, to what seems to be a rather nice apartment building just off Wilshire Blvd. His neighbors aren't gonna be very happy with that very loud Supertrapp muffler.:laughing:

ebay auction for the k-bike BMW closed yesterday and the winner has already paid, so it looks like I'll be working with a shipper this week to arrange pickup. That's one motorcycle I won't miss when it's gone.

The K1 was a fun test ride, too, but I've never liked that sitting-on-your-jewels style.

I had a K100RT for a loaner one very hot summer afternoon when my K1200RS was undergoing some factory recall work. That was one HOT motorcycle. Unlike the R100RT, the hot air hit me everywhere, while the fairing did a wonderful job of keeping the cooling breezes off of me. It was pure misery. I put over 100,000 miles on a K75S, moving up to it from an R100RS. The K75 was faster, more stable at high speeds, and much cooler in the summer. But all the Ks I've ridden would scorch the insides of my thighs on hot days as the recirculating fuel heated up the tank to the point you couldn't comfortably rest your hand on it. I agree 100% with your K vs R RT comparison, PJ, and gave almost no thought to keeping the K for the same reasons you gave for choosing the R. When I was riding the little K, I had a few opportunities to swap with buddies that had the K100RS. The RS was a real reach to the bars, and the seat was very high as well. Very hard to maneuver at low speeds, and handled like a truck in the twisties. The were really at home in 70+ MPH sweepers, though, and I always got left behind when my K75 couldn't match their acceleration coming out of the corners. I got even with the 1200RS though, as it had about 30 horsepower on them, and handled better under all conditions than the K75. No 600 pound motorcycle should have handled that well, but it did. Sure paid a high price in mileage and tires, though.:laughing: And you had to pull the cams to adjust the valves!:shocked:

Same here, PJ. The iPhone just can't capture the range of brightnesses that a full up camera can. Mine blew out the moon in this photo so you couldn't see any of the features on the surface, and when I tried to zoom in, the image got so grainy it looked awful. Too bad I was too lazy to duck inside and grab the Canon Superzoom; it would'a made some nice photos as the moon rose through those clouds.:laughing:

[Diwali]

It’s almost midnight here on the island so not quite morning. Tomorrow’s weather forecast seems grim so I’m happy I got the lawns cut earlier while we had sunshine. I had just finished servicing the Craftsman LT2000 having fitted new blades, belt and one spindle (I haven’t figured out why they fitted a grease nipple on the top of the spindle shaft as the bearings are sealed - it took half a cartridge of grease to fill it!). I was hoping to mow the orchard tomorrow but I guess that will have to wait for nicer weather.
Talking of the orchard, the fruit trees are finally coming to life after a long winter. This was the first time all the younger fruit trees from 2013 on have ever seen snow - not that we had a lot but it must have been a bit of a shock to the system for them. I did lose one plum tree planted in 2015 but all the other trees have survived. I hope the long winter and late spring don’t have too much effect on the fruit yield.
Time will tell!

was working out at very end of lane when I did something similar to Roy, meaning I fell when I had no intention of doing so.
And in my case, I just walked backwards a foot too far while looking for cracks to fill with pavement sealer, and all of a sudden, there was
nothing under my feet. Watching the world start to spin my first thought was geez this isn't good. And then I slammed down into mud, thick bottom of the
ditch mud (thankfully) and did an almost perfect stick, with a small secondary hop. I'd score it an 7. And best of all, no one saw it...

My new hoe came in this afternoon but I was so tired by then, having hoed corn for about three hours today, that I only fiddled with it a little.
Very sharp, longer handle than my current hoe, which is good, less bending over

So I guess my hoe has the power of a rogue elephant. Maybe the elephant
knows how to hoe all by itself...:thumbsup:

Disappointing amount of corn coming in. Lots of long bare spots.

Despite some lack of positional awareness today, it was a very nice day, not too hot,
one more please just like it.

Longwood Gardens, Ted that's funny. One of my favorite places, holiday shows, Spring bulbs, probably the finest
gardens in Philadelphia area. Any good gardener went to Longwood Gardens and for sure the Philadelphia Garden Show.

Good evening all. 60F for the start, mostly sunny this morning, and moderate wind. Got gusty today, clouded up to complete overcast and thought it might rain, and a high of 81F. Choir practice to start, followed by some window washing, then mowed front yard, but back did not really need it. Bike ride then dinner, but no nap .

Looks like the low was 36* this morning. Yesterday wasn't to bad, mid 60's some clouds and wind. They are calling for a 70% chance of a shower today with the wind 20-30 mph. We might get another storm on Wednesday.

I'm not sure what I'll get done today. It just now started to snow.

Good morning all, if Diwali could just slow down that belt of rain coming over from the west, I may get to enjoy a few dry hours before it makes it over the mountains to us. The grass is struggling to put on some decent growth, but the weeds are doing much better.

My wife was saying only yesterday that the normal signs of life on the trees in her little orchard just hasn't happened yet. They aren't dead, just too scared to put on any growth and last nights frost will again make them think twice about coming into leaf.


Brogen, I heard Jay was arranging something special for you today. You get to take a long nap and while you're asleep a nice vet person is going to make the world a much friendlier place, just for you. If only the vet could do the same for all male politicians before they got into power ...
