73 high of 90 70 percent humidity oppressive and down right miserable. Going to be a hot day hitting the pavement so to speak

70 outside this AM. Ditto what Buppies said.

Managed to start mowing last evening. The grass was tall and a little wetter than I like, so WOT it was through the acres. I have one area in the front that needs multiple passes in many directions just due to the height. But it is all nice and neat now. Looks like a great day for the weed whacker. LOL. Me and Mother Nature are getting out of rhythm here.

Hope everyone has a great day. Be safe.

47F morning clouds low 80's for high.
Mowing side field last evening w/the feel of autumn weather...sure felt nice.

Rains arriving tomorrow so couple small projects finish up after work before darkness arrives this evening.

Enjoy the day all.

Good morning. The weather app on my phone is showing sun symbols. Difficult to know if that is a software error or a plain outright lie. The grass loves all this rain, all the sheep are in one small field by the railway and they still can't keep pace with the rate it is growing. Hay making delayed again for the foreseeable future.

Mostly, hope your poorly bike gets better soon.

Sodamo, those Macadamia nuts look hard work. Ever tried cracking them with a reloading press ?

RNG, if you would like to see pictures of the finest English shotguns, then have a look at this company Customer guns - Boxall & Edmiston Gunmakers - Bespoke Shotguns, Shropshire. They are an up and coming shotgun manufactuer only about 20 miles away. When I first heard of them I thought it would be nice to be able to suppport a local company, however it turned out that they are aiming for the very top end of the market, almost a 21st century Purdey, with prices to match (Prices are eye watering - with or without Bell's :) )

I was so excited with my Rizzini, I forgot to show you my wife's double-barrelled Zucchini

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 67° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 83° with thunderstorm throughout the day. Good day to do inside work. Got the 10 shop lights unpacked yesterday. One did not work. Dealing with Sam's club customer service took 3 hours. After stating that I would not deal with person anymore. Asked for store manager. Before manager showed up I had the light exchanged. :( Back to getting fixtures installed in pole barn today.
Mostly, got my bike out yesterday good to ride it after several months. Not sure I need to take it in yet. But gear changes do not work right. I did it last year with good success.
David S, like the nutcracker. Will it work on Hickory nuts?
Eric, double zucchini. A single is more than enough. What are you feeding them.
Good Morning All.

Drove up to Bridgeville, DE last night and picked up an older Cub Cadet 1864, needed something to put the rake on to dress my clam shell driveway. It has power steering like my burned up unit, gotta put the 3 point arms on, he had a weight box mounted. Still not sure what I want for a tractor, don't need anything bigger than these large garden tractors, but my SCUT Simplicity was nice, if bigger than I need. Ramble over!
Another hot and humid day in store, gonna try to mow before the front with its rain comes through tomorrow, but still have some water standing. Oh well, have a great day gents!

good morning everyone. Windows all fogged up, it's hot and sticky out there, going up to 91 today so heat index will be well into 100's.
Off early to give blood for annual physical, then I have to go back this afternoon and see doc. Really messes up my day having mid afternoon appts.
Well, maybe I didn't want to be out in that heat anyway. Still have the rest of the brush pile to chip.
nothing to eat this morning but was thrilled last time when they said I could have black coffee. Yes!

From the vampires I'm off to stock up on coffee and other expensive stuff at Food Lion, got a 10 dollar off coupon, off 40 dollar sale. 25% off is as good as it gets.
Then I need to buy a large quantity of JB Weld just in case certain welding techniques do not pan out too well...and I won't tell the guys in the welding forum.
I'm thinking JB Weld has to be better than what I've always known as Bondo. RNG, you're the expert here.
What's the strongest stuff to use on metal? I have a few holes to fill with metal patches where I burned through the deck and my technique for blobbing metal on top of hole
and thinking I was done. Well, no. You grind the big lump off and shazam! the hole is still there.... sigh. Boy I have a lot to learn and I'm down in the cellar on the learning curve despite reading all the welding books, watching videos, etc. Beginning to think I should have started with Tig instead. Everyone says its easier and I appear to have all the parts needed except argon shielding gas. I admit I've been working on stuff a bit above my pay grade, which is a buck private.... since dealing with thicker metal would have been much easier. My first piece of welding when I start overlaying the new metal is a big hunk of hardened steel up against a big thick part of the mower deck. Looking forward to it actually, not watching in horror as my deck melts away like the ****'s face in the Indiana Jones movie....:D

70 and thin fog going to 89, with less than 50/50 chances of rain.

David, thank for sharing the macadamia layout. As much as I love them, I should have read about them by now. Good education from you. What a heavy duty nut cracker...I'm thinking about logsplitters in comparison. However, I only see 1 familiar looking nut like the kind I but at Costco :). When you receive them in 5 gallon buckets, do you still think of them as a special infrequent treat, like I do?

While waiting for the dew to dry yesterday morning in the high humidity, I lubed the tractor and FEL, and cleaned up older grease around the pivots.

Then mounted the sprayer and roller pump to do what I plan to be the last spraying of the year...getting plots ready to plant clover and some fall soybean/pea/sorghum/buckwheat mix. Then cleaned tank/pump, took pump off and filled with antifreeze...I cut the fingers off nitrile gloves to pull tight over the hose barbs so no antifreeze spills. I cut the remaining palm of the glove to wrap over the open hose ends of the sprayer and twist tie them on tight...otherwise, I've found that insects, especially earwigs, like to find and crawl up the hoses to live.

Whewee! I got up this morning at 4 a.m. to the sound of heavy rain, thunder & lightning. The lights flickered once in the house, but didn't really affect anything except the modem restarted. I'm not sure just when the rain started, but it was all over about 6:30 a.m., and I went out and poured about 4.05" of rain out of the gauge. Most rain at one time that I can remember in several years.

   / Good morning!!!! #61,372
70°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 90° today. Storms rolled through here yesterday at evening rush hour, and packed quite a punch. Fortunately, they didn't last too long.

That's A LOT of rain at one time, Bird. Hope you avoided any flooding issues.

   / Good morning!!!! #61,373
Good morning! No rain in central TX. Bird I can see your rain on the radar but it's moving east not south so we will stay dry. The 3rd cutting of coastal hay is in full swing in the county. With Temps in the 100s and lots of sunshine some are cutting in the morning and baling in the afternoon.

Those aren't just shotguns, Eric, they're works of art. Wonderous to see; I only wish the photos were larger and showed the detail in all its splendor. Similar guns from those traditional English manufacturers find their way into the display cases at some of this country's best museums, and that's probably as close as I'll ever get to one. So in that respect, the photos are much better because in a museum setting you can't get close enough! The only problem is that with enough looking comes the grave danger of igniting a wanting, and then the shotguns already in the safe no longer satisfy. I suppose in these days of $50,000 compact economy cars, $45,000 for a fine shotgun isn't that outrageous. But at least the car would come with its own alarm system, and having been raised in a home that was twice burglarized and all the guns stolen, that's not something to be taken lightly!

Mostly, got my bike out yesterday good to ride it after several months. Not sure I need to take it in yet. But gear changes do not work right. I did it last year with good success.

When the bike was put away, was it put in gear such that all the tension was relaxed from the shift cables, Ron? If not, they've probably stretched and the indexing of the shifters is now off. Backing out the cable adjustor will very likely lead to a fix.:2cents:

Good Morning All, 69 now going to 86, with a 60% chance of T Storms. NWS has been missing it on the highs lately, was 91 here yesterday and I think they called for 84 or 86 yesterday. Got to mow grass today and working on an old looking finish that don't stink. Am trying a mix of linseed oil and fire to make it look old. We will see.

Don, Cut in morning and bale in the evening. WOW, it must be hot and dry.

Have a great day all. Ed

That's probably part of the problem. It also spent 2,500 miles on a bike rack. When we came home from AZ. Shifting cable runs along under side of top rail. Sits on bike rack. Will give the tensioner adjustment a try.

Good Morning!!!! 67F @ 5:45AM. Sunny. High near 95F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

I wouldn't recommend any kind of synthetic filler to close up a hole that wasn't supported from the back, Drew. It may look OK for a while, but eventually it'll crack and perhaps even fall out. If you can get your hands on a chunk of aluminum or copper at least an inch thick, you can hold that up against the back of the hole and weld over it. Try to keep the heat on the edge of the hole and let the metal slump onto the chunk, and avoid letting the arc play directly on the block of backing metal. You need to get your eyes close enough to the molten puddle to see what's going on in enough detail such that it's clear when the metal is liquid and when it's frozen in place. With any welding method, if there's a secret, that is it. If you think stick welding is difficult, wait 'till you try TIG. Instead of having just one thing to move around, now you have both torch and wire to worry about, and often as not you'll put the wire on the electrode instead of in the puddle. And you'll have to learn to feed that wire using just your thumb and fingers, with gloves on. Perhaps you could find someone with a MIG outfit that knows how to use it, or even better go out and get one of your own!:stirthepot::laughing: After years of struggling with stick and a cheap TIG outfit, I finally bit the bullet and picked up one of these: POWER MIG(R) 18C MIG Welder Cry once and get it over with and start looking foward to using it when something breaks instead...

Found some more detailed pictures of that centerstand tang yesterday and decided that the shape on the one I'd made was too far off. It needed to be more of an oval in cross section, and the one I had was a rectangle with rounded corners. Figured I could get close by using a larger radius cutter and biasing it toward the long side of the rectangle, leaving something of a corner on the short side that can be rounded over on the belt sander. I'd just put a new blade on the bandsaw and it just zipped through a chunk of 1/2" plate and the rest was just time spent cranking handles on the mill. One small error to fix this morning, as one end should be necked down above where the tang gets welded to the stand, and I moved the cutter too far in one spot. This morning that'll get filled up with a few spots of MIG (Gas Metal Arc) weld and no one'll know the difference.

Hang in there, gang. Friday's comin'!

The low this morning was 44*, yesterday high was 80*. The forecast for today is partly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms.

The plan for today is to take the grandkids over to look at a old railroad ghost town. There are some charcoal kilns still standing and few buildings. If we have time maybe try fishing again.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Years ago, we brought home a case of the Macnuts when we vacationed in Hawaii. Family and friends thought they were great. The price has went up at least 10x since then...

80s during day, nice break from the 90s the last month. We returned a window AC unit we got when the smoke got bad and we couldn't cool house at night.. we decided that a few weeks of discomfort is worth it to be able to open the bedroom window the rest of the summer. I will find a small single hung window that would go above an air conditioner so we could have both, open the window to cool when we want, run the ac when the nights don't cool or too smoky.

Got a few projects done last night, it really helps the spirit to get something tangible done. One of my wife's nephews is working as the shovel/stick man for a septic/drainfield installer. He loves the work, he can see what they accomplished at the end of the day, feels like he is contributing to the community (he is excited as a new housing development is going in and they are doing the septic (yep, still have areas that do not have sewer).
