26 degrees going to 48 today. Helpers came yesterday and we put the phd back on the tractor, and froze our tails off doing it, geez was that wind chill cold in 25mph winds. But at least now I can drill about fifty holes for hybrid willows today, in the nice warm tractor cab. All going along a tree line, and while the 12 inch auger is too big for these small bare root trees, it will make a nice water retention ring from the overflow and for sure will go through tree roots that I have no chance of digging through manually. I expect to hit a lot of roots today, run the phd just above idle so if I hit something big the tractor will stall and not break the pins. I've never stalled the tractor either, shows that diesels definitely put their torque out at low rpm.

Hybrid willows all average about 42 inches with nice root balls, a good thing when they advertised them as only being two to three feet tall. I'm hopeful their addition to my existing tree line will finally give me a sight barrier from Tobacco Road next door. Once the willows have formed a sight barrier, I can then clean out the tree line, get all the briars and other junky trees out, all of which were tolerated because they helped block the view. Trees are supposed to grow 8 feet in the first year. Hmmm, a hybrid willow would define GMO wouldn't it?....

Don, I guess you will have to do it with a hoe, now.

The job was completed with a grub-n-hoe and a shovel that was an inch too wide and had to be brought up through the pipes at an angle. I'm not as sore as I thought I would be, I guess the turmeric works on muscle inflammation.

I was thinking that was a lot of work too...you really do keep active there. I have some turmeric on my spice shelf, used in chili?, wonder what I can put some in.
thoughts Don?

Curry. Mustard. Soups. Potatoes. Beans.

To make the turmeric more effective always add black pepper.
I love black pepper so that part is easy.
And I love mild curry.
When you say potato, do you have to do mashed potatoes and mix it in?
Sprinkle on outside?
And beans as in soup style beans, not green beans from the garden?
I've read of this stuff elsewhere, though I need to be careful of things that might aggravate acid reflux.
With severe osteoarthritis, I'm game for trying anything sensible
other than having them keep jacking up my meds.

Drew here is a recipe that we make and when I'm going to be very active add extra turmeric AND double the recipe.

INDIAN CURRY LENTILS

1 cup mixed lentils & split peas
3 tablespoons of mild yellow curry powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric (we usually grate some turmeric root and use more)
4 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon oregano
1 cup of mixed vegetables (I use bag of frozen corn, peas, carrots, and green beans and also add kale or spinach)

We make ours in the Instant Pot set at 12 minutes and it's done. The Instant pot is a pressure cooker so we only use 4 cups of water.
(if you order a "instant pot" from the manufacture Instant Pot Company not amazon use coupon code AJ for $50 off and free shipping)

Without a Instant Pot:

Bring 5 cups of water to boil add lentils and split peas

add spices and garlic cook for 50 minutes and then add the frozen vegetables and cook an additional 5 minutes

Serve on a bed of brown rice.

Note: We like the Instant Pot because it is one of the few pressure cookers that has a stainless steel pot not a teflon lined pot.

going to get some serious seat time today and a good test for my rear camera on the Kubota. Need to drill fifty holes for fifty hybrid willows.
Nice warm cab on a cold day, all good. Need to remember to take a different CD out, the one in the cheap stereo they give you has been in
there way too long.
Maybe some Allison Krauss while I drill holes. Need to see if it has a USB input; don't think so.
I just gave the Kubota a full lube a few days ago, hooked up the air grease gun to my compressor and that makes it a lot easier for me
as we all know how many zerks there are on a FEL. And then the ones down near the front axle, the front steering knuckles, and then four zerks in
the rear. I keep greasing the FEL hoping that graunching noise will just go away but I think I might have slightly bent something a year ago whaling on a stump.
The same stump I now really need to take out totally because it's in the only entrance to the nut orchard, and i want to have that opening in the tree line look nice.
Job security, endless stuff to do here...all good, particularly since I've subbed out the lawn mowing I can now do these other projects I have been longing to do.
Just could never get to them being a one man bad.

One more day and it warms up enough to go back outside. I have to weedeat around my house, foot high weeds in spot. At least they look nice...weeds are like cockroaches,
I bet the freeze didn't hurt them.

No heart attacks in the snow guys. One guy already keeled over from this blizzard shoveling snow. No heart attacks. That's our motto. Thomas, Roy, and...
but have fun out there...ultimately we are all like little kids and want to play in the snow some time. Like Cat Fever catching air...

Drinking first cup of coffee. 66° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 92° with partly cloudy skies. Trip to west side of Phoenix took longer than planned. Cement truck turned over causing freeway to be closed. Then finding home of relative was a mess. Del Webb designed community. Road go in circles. Beyond the road. We had a good visit with wife's cousin. Taking dog to groomer today.
Don, a lot less work if cattle is cleaned annually. Another item to add to your todo list. 🤠
Drew, local news this morning. Was talking about cold in DC and cherry trees. They stated that temperatures had to be below 24° to kill blossom. But what do they know when it's going to be in the 90's for the next 5 days.
Good Morning All.

Drew also on "active" days I add 1/4 cup sesame seeds to my morning bowl of oats and fruit I used to use Quaker old fashion oats, now I am using the Instant Pot for 10 minutes to make Oat Groats - keeps me fuller longer and is less processed.

My wife tells me she notices I complain a lot less about pain and don't move like an old man  when eating these inflammation fighting foods.

only time I've had sesame seeds was on top of a McDonald's bun. Not an ideal mode of intake...:D
I'm guessing it's the oil in the sesame seeds that provides the staying power. Like nuts.
I really need to find a health food store around here. Dixie Pig doesn't qualify...

thanks Ron, fingers crossed.

Mine got over 30' in 8 years and that was without much pruning, they were effectively giant bushes, they should do what you want.

Cold again, at least the wind is down, yesterday afternoon one gust complex lasting about 45-60 seconds, produced three peak gusts over 60 mph. Warming a little each day until Sunday. Spring is on the way, but it got sidetracked.

My wife brought home some Ginger Tumeric herbal tea from Trader Joe's recently...I just looked and saw it has black pepper as an ingredient...also licorice, and orange peel. Very tasty, even a bit sweet, probably due to the orange. We've begun to have hot tea in the afternoon or early evening. I had a nice Irish Breakfast tea yesterday, and an English one the day before, but Eric, I don't take it with milk, just plain. :)

Good Morning! 55F @ 6:30AM. Partly cloudy. High around 65F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

First morning in more than a week where I've had a fire in the wood stove. Yesterday was cloudy and the house didn't warm as it usually does. No rain here, but we did see a couple of brief showers down at the mechanic's, but they weren't even enough to wet the asphalt parking lot.

The trial fit of the new headlights went well, though I did have to move one of the brackets 3/8" and bend the headlight adjusters just a bit. Also opened up a hole in the pop top headliner and installed the rubber gasket for the skylight. That's as far as I got because no mounting fasteners were provided by the vendor, unbeknownst to me until that moment when it was needed.:censored: Just as well, since I found an all stainless steel kit at another place where I had a "bonus buck" credit almost large enough to make it free. Also got the intake manifold stripped and ran it through the automatic parts washer for a couple of hours. It still needs soda blasted, so I brought it home and will do it in the side yard today if I have any soda left.:confused2:

It finally occurred to me yesterday that one reason why the tool racks and drawers at this shop are always a wreck is that neither of the two employees owns their own tools. This was made clear when the Snap-On truck stopped outside. Guys from the shops on either side did some business, but only one of the men from this shop. But instead of buying all the hand tools he needs every day, he only gets a few of them. The apple of his eye is a five hundred dollar torque wrench that might get used a couple times a week. And buying it all on Snap-On credit to the tune of $150/month for 18 months. Snap-On disease at it's finest, though I'd never seen it first hand before.

Prior to this visit I got out my dad's old Snap-On tool box, small little thing only about 10" x 14" x 4". It's enough for a basic set of combination wrenches, 3/8 drive sockets, a few screwdrivers, pliers, side cutters, measuring tape, and other things, but everything in it was SAE. The van is metric, so I scrounged through my old tool drawer where a lot of other tools from the estate had ended up and found enough for an almost complete set. In the process I found the 3/8" combo wrench that had been missing for years, but not the 14mm socket that would complete the set. My old Craftsman 1/4 and 3/8 metric socket and combo wrench sets were also MIA, so the little box was a little lighter than it should have been. Still, what a relief it was not to have to dig through two roll aways and several bins overlaid with cans of brake cleaner, old paper towels, empty boxes, old dirty parts, and even people's jackets, just to find a screwdriver or socket wrench. That missing 14mm socket was my reason for being in the Snap-On truck to witness the torque wrench debacle, but alas, a 14mm 12 point socket was beyond the power of such a magnificent truck to produce. It's on order, the man sez...

Eric, the smart Texans typically use boiler plate steel endcaps. But they just buy them from somebody else. I wanted to build one myself. Time and usage will tell if titanium was a good choice or not.

The robins are out, grass is starting to green up, temps are low 30s at night, near 50 during day. It's been raining daily for a week or so, drying out this next week...

Replaced a switch in propane stove, seems to be working now, will put it back together tonight (wanted to make sure it worked before laying there putting screws in tight places.).

Still having issues with sediment in master toilet line, will flush more tonight.

My wife's nephew put in hybrid willows along driveway, he had a 55 gallon barrel with top cut off full of water and a bunch of branches in there. They were forming roots and he said they grow very well.

Do you know what the difference is between the DUO model and the LUX model?

LUX This is Instant Pot痴 second model. It痴 now their 摘conomy offering. It痴 a basic 6-in-1 multi cooker that can: pressure cook, slow cook, steam, make rice, saute and keep warm. I wrote a detailed review of this pressure cooker and even used the LUX to test recipe and ingredient timing for electric pressure cookers for my cookbook. The LUX does not have a 斗ow pressure setting, it does not make yogurt, it does not work with the Programmable Instant Pot SMART app.

DUO This is Instant Potç—´ third and most successful model so far. This is a 7-in-1 multi cooker and it can do everything the LUX can do plus make yogurt. Instant Pot listened to feedback from consumers and added a few nice touches such as two pressure settings (high and low), and there are also little slots in the handles so that you can rest the lid there instead of putting it down on your counter-top. The DUO does not work with the Programmable Instant Pot SMART app.

Read more: UPDATED: Which Instant Pot model is right for you? UPDATED: Which Instant Pot model is right for you? ~ hip pressure cooking

I just looked at mine they are LUX. We have 2, we can do rice in 10 minutes while the other is cooking the main dish.
We also use them when steaming tamales, it's a lot quicker.

The absolute best part is you just put on the lid and it does the rest, no burning, no sticking, no stirring and fast.
