My parents always had two poodles one black one white for years always females about 75 to 80 pounds. They went everywhere with them. When the last white one died oodles they did not replace her. Mary Beth was the one we inherited. She knew all the rooms in house by name ie: dining room. We figured she understood over 200 words. She learned how to patrol from Sofi our golden fascinating dog. They were good traveling dogs went to SC 8 times a year with my parents

Good Morning
35° and overcast, high in the mid 40’s.

Yesterday’s breakfast with the professor was pretty typical, followed by some visible progress in the shop.
But the high point of activity for the day was after lunch.

My friend hired a tree climber to retrieve his RC plane from the top of a tree where it’s been for a week or so. He scampered up the tree like a squirrel, except that he was careful enough to tie off all the time as he went past limbs. He was never without a safety line.

The 15kt wind didn’t seem to phase him, although at the top, he was moving at least 3 feet with the tree.

We picked up my wife’s transit connect and the brakes are quiet and work well, and my wallet is $460 lighter. One rotor was so stuck on the hub, that it had to be cut off with a disc grinder. So while I mourn the loss of the cash, it’s not going to motivate me to do the next brake job.

Not much planned for today, I should get back to the hangar and make more progress on that front, and I’ve got an airport authority meeting tonight, but yesterday’s progress in the shop was motivating.

Morning all, 38 going to 52 and cloudy. n
Got a lot of the basement utility room cleaned out, some to trash, and floor cleaned.
Did some shopping and picked up lunch, too windy to do the outside work.
So went and changed the sediment filter on the water line.

My son also does not care about engines or mechanical. I did have him work with me on a head gasket replacement and valves for one of the old simplicities to show him more about how engines work.

I remember my first Air Force haircut was around a $1 and worth about that, I paid for my own after that incident :)

back to the day job,
Be well,

Filter looks nice and clean again.

D had an accident shortly after getting her license where she hit the curb with the front wheel and bashed in the suspension and attachment points
She is also not very mechanical inclined but I made her fix it while supervising how to do it. She had chain falls tied to trees and come alongs all over the place but she got it done. She learned her lesson and said never again!!

Monday evening ended with the house booster pump running slightly longer than normal and sounding off, quieter. Funny how tuned into "normal" sounds one gets.

Wednesday morning confirmed water pressure too low to the house, meaning that our large storage tanks were empty. The pump wouldn't turn on manually. With a bit more digging, the coil on the contactor had infinite resistance, so it was time to call the well drillers who do the pump maintenance that I don't have the skills/parts for. Their lead Mr. FixIt is referred to as "the professor", and he definitely lives up to the name. I always enjoy learning from him. They said he'd be out on Wednesday, so I briefly hot wired the pump, bypassing the contactor to get some extra water for the cows. A few hours later I got a text telling me that the professor would be coming Tuesday and arriving shortly.😀

When he arrived, I got a quick grilling on the issue and my attempts to diagnose it, and then he dug in. Half an hour later we had a new coil installed, and a working pump. The old coil was cracked and looked as if it had a minor explosion inside. The nice thing about these Furnas (Siemens) contactors is that each inner component is replaceable, but there's a price for that. The UL listed backup contactor that I ordered from Amazon $26, the matching Siemens version is around $900... I'm ok putting a $26 part on the "just-in-case" shelf, but a $900 part, not so much.

I suspect that the coil took some damage in the lightning strikes that took out the microcontroller last year.

As the main water tanks were low, as in empty, I took the opportunity to chlorinate the tanks as they were filling.

I need to noodle on an alarm setup for when the pump doesn't respond to a call for water to head off empty tanks before they happen.

Not sure what I will get up to today; it might be a recovery day. So far, it doesn't look like the solar storm last night did any damage, but I haven't done the rounds yet. No visible aurora here.

All the best,

Peter

morning all, 46deg, winds have diminished from yesterday. Nothing on the agenda. spent more time last night still searching for the ever elusive pictures, this time rounding up some old CD picture backups, but still no luck. I have some CD or DVD picture backups stored at the farm, so will look there the next trip.
