77F and mostly cloudy @ 11:15, calling for a high of 85F for the day. Rain/storms moving in late tonight.

Ran down to PO and got property taxes postmarked first thing yesterday and swung by the corner station and picked up 5 gallons of gasoline for the Cub.

Got the Cub refueled when I got back.

Got meds doled out for coming week.

Refilled tube feeders and one suet feeder, also scattered some seeds for the ground feeders.

Changed out bags on three Japanese Beetle traps, one still left to do.

Watered tomato plants on back shelves, noticed another winter squash/pumpkin had finally sprouted after 3 - 4 weeks on the back shelves ... so I went ahead and watered the rest of the remaining pots which I had largely given up on.

Started to refill the empty glyphosate sprayer, need to finish that up today.

Took dump cart up to the woodchip piles and loaded it up (by hand, with a shovel)

Brought that back down and finished up the mulching around the pumpkins in back:

IMG_3764 copy.jpg

Filled in/covered a burrow entrance over in that area while I was at it.

With the dump cart now empty I decided to go ahead and clean up/weed eastern edge of the garden. I sprayed that with glyphosate awhile back so most of what was there had withered away and just needed raked up.

But there were some weeds that were closer to the brassicas that I didn't spray and those were pushing up the insect netting, leaving a gap where cabbage moths could get in.

Discovered four volunteer indeterminate tomato plants about 2' long/tall in the process.

Got that all done and hauled the weeds up to the compost pile.

Then filled up the dump cart about 3/4 full with screened compost and brought that back down to the front of the house where I mixed in the remaining peat moss in the garbage can out front.

Final walk through of the garden for the day yielded another three summer squash. With more on the way.

After that watched the bats for a little bit as it got dark.

Woman returned from the rental place a bit ago where She picked up a metal detector and just now headed out to do some weeding.

Main project for me today will be to see if I can locate 5 corner pins we share with neighbors. Four of them define the boundary/property line on the west side and the 5th defines the southeast corner of our second parcel where the barn is.

Not sure what else on agenda beyond that, just see what else comes up.

An alert for a marginal severe storm risk has been issued until 08:00 Sunday morning.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ... (y)

70°F and .05 inches rain.

Successful trip to town yesterday. $223 for 10 g of Universal Tractor fluid and another $98.50 to top off the Tundra. Had a late lunch when we got home, a nice salad with shrimp. Then it hit me, apparently my motivation missed the ride back from town. Had to call an audible and declare rest of afternoon for energy conservation.

Weather permitting tractor gets serviced today.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good Morning
68° and overcast becoming partly cloudy, high just shy of 80 with a low POP later, but it’s been a steady drizzle so far.

Yesterday was a day of continuous small tasks.
Replaced and torqued all the blade bolts on the Lazer, replaced the battery on it as well.
Fabricated some rack mount ears for a Panamax power sequencer / stabilizer, made a tool for pulling things out of the KubVan to replace the one I’ve misplaced.

It amazes me how accurately the plasma cutter can do small holes. Those are for #10 screws. It’s definitely a great tool to have in the arsenal.

Lots of cleanup and organizing upstairs in the shop, as well as staging gear for today’s load in at the local carnival / fireman’s fair. We play there every year on the closing night until the fireworks start. But it’s a bare stage, we provide the lighting and PA as well as someone to operate it. We only charge them enough to cover the hired help, the band members pretty much volunteer their time.

second shower of the day felt really good, went over my legs carefully looking for critters.
been a steady light rain for awhile, getting me in the nap mood

today did not go well for the Stihl saws. Neither of my nephew's saws started easily but once we got the big one
going, it had a new chain and nothing like a 600 cc chain saw that wants to devour a log. Went through harder wood
with ease. Then I hit something, maybe metal, and it was all over. Ken's echo saws started right up, but he dulled his too.
in fact I think we had four dull saws at one time. Glad we brought extras. My Makita cordless worked great with a new chain.
I had the old one all boxed up for Ken to take home and sharpen and I forgot. Don't expect to need it for awhile.
nice thing about electric saws, always ready to go.

the sound of rrrrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrrr pulling the chain saw rope
heard a lot of that today.
rrrrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrrr
and because of my 14 year old nephew's kid in earshot, there could be
no coaxing with the proper blend of four letter words and mutterings

not my saws...my echos on the farm always started on four, with 1 2 burp run
Ken uses his saws so much they worked great, his pole saw really came in handy.

my second 9ah makita battery came in yesterday, so I was ready, but never used it
was going to but ran out of smaller stuff to cut. The rest required big saws.
but with twin 9ah batteries running the saw, won't run out of juice for a while.
Makita was fun to use with a brand new chain, takes a little smaller bites but a fine saw.

Took a morning motorcycle ride with son. Stopped and got a breakfast taco.

Still have about 4 myriads of stuff to do. The seal for the 286 Bush Hog came in. It is for the pumpkin where the PTO shaft goes in.

Coming up with probably better ideas for the pond rake. Wanting to revert back to 1 pipe or square tube instead of 2 to reduce mass.

Another trip around the sun completed today. Got me a new Keurig with a lot of accoutrement. reusable stainless K cups, little filters, filler funnel, 54 Decaf flavored pods.

Prayers for our team.
