over 2 billion dollars to fix that interstate? I wonder who will pay for that.
probably costs twice as much as "before" if going to be rebuilt to withstand what
just happened. 2 thousand million dollars seems like a great deal of money.
of course to really put it in perspective, the cost of our last aircraft carrier was 13 billion dollars.
so we must have it...
they need to give Buppies the paving business.
At least a billion dollars worth.
bit of a drive for him though

Interstate 40 (I-40) in North Carolina is closed at the Tennessee-North Carolina border due to damage from Hurricane Helene. The highway is expected to reopen in early 2025, and here's some information about the current status:
- Reopening
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is working to open I-40 when it's safe. They've awarded a $10 million contract to stabilize the westbound lanes in the Pigeon River Gorge.
- Reopening date
The NCDOT announced that I-40 will reopen with one lane in each direction by New Year's Day.
- Long-term reconstruction
Long-term reconstruction plans are still in early development. There's no date for the start of construction, nor a cost estimate.
- Damage
The flooding from Tropical Storm Helene collapsed nearly the entire shoulder of parts of I-40. The NCDOT estimates that damages will total up to several billion dollars.
- Road closures
A large swath of western North Carolina roads remain limited to essential travel only.
