About David having an extended run of bad experiences:

In the span of a month back about 1985, my toolshed was broken into and I lost a lot of tools, someone broke into the warehouse where I worked and more of my tools were stolen, my then-girlfriend had an accident with my truck (her fault) somebody got careless with with their driving and knocked down my new mailbox at home, I stepped on some rusty metal at work and gashed my foot badly, and as a capper: I got home from a 12 hour day of delivery work only to find my nearly new Ford LTD the victim of a bunch of kids who were throwing rocks at it from the nearby railroad tracks.

I related the month to my brother and know what he told me?

"It was YOUR TURN this month...." yeah it's funny now....

Good Morning TBN'ers

It's 61 and sunny here right now (was overcast about 45 minutes ago) .... headed up to the low to mid 70's ....

Yesterday ended up being a pretty productive day - I got things cleaned up and sorted out in the polebarn, managed to cut the grass around the house, cleared the leaves and debris out of the path where the driveway will connect back on itself to make a turnaround, and made a couple more passes on the driveway with the landscape rake .... since I had it on.

I built the driveway about 7 years ago using a combination of 1's and 2's and crushed asphalt, topped with "crusher run" .... and it has held up very well - I really haven't done a lot of maintenance on it over that time ....

In fact, it's been a couple of years since I did anything with it .... and it had finally developed about 10 shallow depressions in various spots (I haven't been able to sucessfully train the wife not to put the wheels in the chuckholes when they are full of standing water)

A few passes with the boxblade and landscape rake, a back-dragging with the loader bucket, and it appears to be good to go for another few years.

Will get the pull-thru on the driveway completed and it should be dry enough today to close up the rest of the open trenches and do the concrete/mortar work on the catchbasins.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day !

Cool today with a high lower than yesterday, only 13C or 55F, we are going in reverse for summer. Had some unexpected rain yesterday evening, guess that's why the grass is still green.
Boy, $1225 for a brake job is a bit on the expensive side.
I just had to replace the window regulator on the drivers side window this week, cost $210, couple of months ago had to do the passenger side one, was a bit cheaper at $205. at least the windows go up and down. :D

What makes having a brake job so costly is in part for the obscene markup on parts. I could buy a better than OEM quality rotor for my Buick at NAPA for about $67...a shop would pay less because of their discount and THEN they would mark up the retail price of $67 to $134. And with labor at $100-120 an hour...I got one estimate for doing my Buick the total was close to $850.

It took me several hours, BUT: In the process I also used a powerwasher to really clean all the dust and crap out of the areas I was working on, I knew the quality of the parts I was getting, and I also knew I was doing it right. Brake work is really just unskilled labor and paying an obscene hourly rate of $100-120 is inane.

We still need rain, put out some lawn starter/booster and Spectracide pellets with the spreader, I learned you have to look ahead of you sometimes, too! Ask the dogwood tree. Oh well, tractor is no worse off and I mostly scared myself and provided a good laugh for the guy in the Dodge pickup going by.
61 early, mid 70's for a few days before real summer hits.

Too many defective pavers (about 15% cracked) from Mexico in the stacks. I will run out again. Have to contact the company to see If I can get the defective ones replaced. What a pain going through 3500 pavers and a 200 mile round trip because someones quality control was lacking. America's Acme brick Pavers were much better, too bad they shut down the plant.

It's sunny and 57 here right now (up from 53 about 45 minutes ago) .... and time for the second cup ....

Got the leaves and debris cleaned out on the new section of driveway/turnaround (and on the backside of the barn, in preparation for grading) yesterday, the wife cut and laid the geotex fabric down, and I placed 4 dumpcart loads of large gravel on it. Looks like it will take another 6 or so loads to complete, all while dodging a few brief heavy downpours. Also got some clay screened and placed around the barn and some grading done. The rock collection is growing :D

Based on the weather forecast, today should be a productive day.

62, overcast and breezy right now. Only predicted to hit 69 today with a chance of thunderstorms...

Well, at least the breezes should dry it out a bit after yesterday evening's thunderstorm...

Hi to all. Looks like it's going to be a good week weather wise, with temps in the upper 60's to low 70's, nice for working outdoors.

Cruised several nurseries over the weekend, brought home a nice gingko tree that will go out front of the house. There had been two 80 ft tall silver maples there but they had not been well pruned over the years and were old, starting to show some rot, so had them taken down and got them all turned in to firewood.

I'm also making a little progress with catching up on housework. It's not something that I have much enthusiasm for and I'd much rather be out in the garden or on the back porch reading or taking a walk with the dogs.

The friend who pastures some horses here came by and cut hay over the weekend. He said we'll have about 200 square bales of good horse feed.

"It was YOUR TURN this month...." yeah it's funny now....

"That which does not kill you makes you stronger"

"Trials and tribulations builds character..."

I respond that I am enough of a character already, and that if I get any stronger I'll need to shower 3 times a day.

The only one which gives me any comfort is "God will not give you more than you can handle" but it also worries me... Because somedays I'm not sure I'm up to whatever he has planned for me...

Thanks for the support Bill.
David

Y'all are my buddies and I think this thread is the only place on TBN I've shared about my duckling's hard-core right-wing escapade... :D

Here is a pic of Syrrus mothering a guinea keet (you can see kind of her shoulder socket or wing-pit where the wing missing from in this pic. I think it was on Friday or Saturday.

She is doing REALLY well and the 2nd pic is from last evening, playing in a rain puddle in the driveway...

She is my hero & role model.

Be well,
David
