Poured first cup of coffee. 58° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 73° with a mix of sun and clouds. Garned pond project may take longer than I thought. I did get it started yesterday.
Good Morning All.

Morning All.
One more work day before the July 4th weekend. Probably be a long one as they got rained out yesterday and are behind scheduled.
Hope to do a bit of fishing plus some wood cutting over the weekend. And I ought to put the cutter on the tractor and mow down a field or two.

Good morning, 57F heading to 75F, with no rain in the forcast for awhile, should be a great weekend.

Good Morning Everyone, 73 now up to 98 today. I have a couple of hours of work then hanging out with the wife, it is her B-day.

Eric - I would call that a "Weed Wiper" if I had ever seen such a thing. I honestly have never seen or heard of one before, I like it. I just use a tank on a trailer with a spray wand. No, let me rephrase that, I have a tank that I need to use. :D

I was mowing yesterday when I hit a stump that was hiding and bent the blade, now I have to change blades. The mower is out of gas, the tractor is also (VERY) low on diesel so I loaded up the tanks to stop at the station. Taking wifes car in for an oil change before we leave on Sunday.

good morning all, mid seventies going to about 90 today, going to trim some shrubs today while I have my helper here to pick up after me. Sure makes that job easier...

then I've got 150 pounds of weed and feed to put down, hopefully in anticipation of a little rain this week. Am trying the "off brand" at 30 bucks a bag instead of Scotts at 45. Very curious to see if there is any difference in admittedly a comparison with a huge number of variables, including my setting on the pull spreader. Huge differences in parts of my lawn. Behind the house it is so lush in centipede grass I think I could fall flat on my face on the lawn and not get hurt. It feels like a thick carpet underneath. Other places, some with fescue, some with Bermuda apparently, are much thinner, lower and unhappy looking compared to the better areas so they are getting first dibs this time. I can't put this stuff down on five acres, just too much lawn, so trying to concentrate more around the house.

Went to the local rental place and took my time studying trenching machines and overseeders. Guy there was knowledgeable and took the time to show me all the alternatives, including the six inch wide Ditchwitch or equivalent that is used for putting down perf pipe/orangeburg by the locals. He told me to do my measurements, get my pipe onsite, get my fill material ready, and then rent the machine. This is the less expensive alternative to renting a mini excavator.
I also want to run one inch water pipe out to my orchard, but a six inch trench is really overkill for that in this sandy soil.
I was hoping to rent one of these for the water pipe job:Amazon.com : NorthStar Edger/Trencher - 200cc Honda GX Engine : Power Edgers : Patio, Lawn & Garden but there were none. Lots of sidewalk edgers but not mini trenchers.

Good morning! The hit and miss showers are messing with the hay balers in the county but keeping the temperatures below 100 in July!
Partly cloudy and a cool 70˚ this morning after yesterday afternoon's 1/4" shower, heading to the 90s later.

I need to research a flail mower, my rotary mower requires too many passes with the long fibrous stem grasses and weeds out here.

59F with clouds and sun @ 07:00 ... headed up to a high of 76F today ...

Dude from ATT came out yesterday and converted us over to their Universe service ... that will cut the home phone/internet bill about in half. Guy was impressed with the signal strength from the C.O. to house ... said if we wanted it, it would support up to around an 18 megabit data rate ... we're getting 7 megabit now, which is plenty fine.

Ran by the bearing place after I went to the attorney's yesterday ... the guy there managed to figure out the correct bearings for the jackshaft hubs on the Simplicity, even though I had forgotten to bring them along. I had the basic bearing number but there were some variations (prefix/suffix) that weren't marked on the bearing itself. Tapped the old ones out and the new ones in after I got back home. Now just need to cut the chains to length and I can start putting it back together.

Also ran by the commercial property, just to see how much the grass had grown with all the rain we had ... it's out of control again ... so I'll be heading in there in a bit since the weather is supposed to be nice today. Spent some time yesterday trying to locate the plastic plate that goes on the top of the deck of Lawnboy in place of the grass catcher chute ... still can't find it. Real mystery as to where it could have gotten off to ... need to look up in the shed and see if it wound up there for some reason. Would be nice to be able to cut the grass down and let it dry a little before I try to bag it.

After I get the grass cut in at commercial property, I need to start working on it here at the house, as its gotten out of control here too.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day ... and a Happy 4th of July.

I guess I missed that. Haven't watched the news or read a newpaper in almost seven years. Should have stopped long before that. If something happens that has some bearing on my life, plenty of folks will tell me about it. The rest of it is just static.
Larro,

Amazing how much effect just not watching the news can have on one's outlook ... ;)

BTW ... I had a look at the sycamore rounds I've cut while I was up at the shop yesterday ... most all of them are showing cracks in the ends from drying already ... some hot weather and another month or so and they should be ready to split

... Started cutting out my bulk milk cooler from my milk house yesterday. An old 1940's or so setup. Lots of copper and lead. Stainless steel 200 gallon cooler. Cannot seem to find a home for it. Might haul it to the scrap yard. Shame. What to do as far as re-purpose? SO even called some micro-breweries, wine makers and old milk farms, no joy ...
If I were closer I'd take it off your hands in a heartbeat ... :D

68 out this AM. Looks to be wet for the next few days. Returning to inside the house work. Need to get some handles on some doors and trim paint a few things.

Have a great day all. Be safe!

What would you use it for? I was thinking of brewing some beer, but 200 gallons is a lot of beer. Well, maybe not. LOL.

Anyway, it sits in the corner of the milk house now that it is disconnected from the plumbing. That was fun! I love sparks. Amazing how much room is in the milk house now that it is not in the middle of the floor. It was a great set-up for its time. I feel sort of bad for the history of the place.

77F @ 4:30AM. Partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 99F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph.

Earlier this year a running gun battle resulted when two gangs bumped into each other at a Hmong (Cambodian) family reunion. It ran for about 30 miles and ended up in the parking lot of the bank I use, with one of the offender's pickup trucks upside down. Fortunately it was my off week to be in town and I missed all the excitement.

Drew, even the 6" trencher will make a lot less mess than the mini-excavator, and you might find that with your sandy soil a narrower trench would tend to collapse back on itself anyway. If you do end up with a trencher of some sort, resist the urge to dig any deeper than absolutely necessary. The more dirt you move the more work you make for yourself, but the trencher doesn't seem to care how deep it goes.

Eric, I've never seen a weed machine like that, but I can envision certain advantages, such as no drifting spray. I just wonder how you'd keep the spines and burrs from packing up on the bristles? This time of year when I walk around in the meadows here, my pants legs and shoe laces are full of them!

RS, I'm jealous of your bandwidth. Pics or it don't count when you get the Simplicity back together.

Headed two hours north for a saddle adjustment this morning, hoping to beat the heat by getting an early start. It's supposed by be 107F by mid afternoon, and the large wind bucking fairing on the motorcycle and heavy riding gear I wear are a perfect recipe for heat stroke. I'll be carrying a sport pack filled with water, but will probably end up stopping for fuel and shade at least once just to be safe.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

76F dry & clear today. Nice stretch of weather ahead for the next 4 days.

Today's task is getting the bush hog ready to use. It's the only thing that has to sit outside, which I don't like but have to live with. The mower has had a hard life for the past 11 years. I don't put that many hours on it but they are hard hours. If I finish my field project before the end of the universe it would be nice to get a mower dedicated to mowing cleared areas. A flail mower might fit in the garage. The bush hog is roughly 6'-6" X 11' overall which is a lot of floor space.

The price of being able to read the news, is reading the news. I guess it also depends on what one considers to be worthy news but whilst on my way to those topics it is hard to miss the unworthy news headlines.

RedNeckGeek, you are certainly having a hot streak, or it that normal? I have no idea what your normal temp ranges are. Be safe on your ride and don't forget to wink.

I know I would mount it on a trailer and convert it to a spray tank, but same issue, just to far away... :confused3:

I am sure you will fill that floor space quickly, I can never keep empty floor space.

Hahahaha, I have some friends that would think 200 gals of beer would be good for Friday

Good Morning. 0740, partly cloudy, 78F with 89% humidity. Forecast high of 85F with 50% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 74F tonight. I'm going to tackle the garden this morning. Most all of my 1st planting has played out and the new stuff isn't ready yet. I have to take up soaker hoses, mow, then till. Some I have already planted in the same spots in the skips, like the cucumbers, so I will pull up the old plants and use the hand plow to get ready to plant the rest. We've had 8 or 9 straight days with rain, so even the new stuff needs plowing and hoeing. The bad thing about doing it this wet, is it just doesn't kill the grass.

Then off to work in the afternoon. Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

I had heard about this story Man stabbed in PCB gumbo argument dies, suspect charged - Crime/Public Safety - The News Herald from Tomahawk Nation, a Florida State Seminoles Message Board, but didn't realize he was a local fellow. Yesterday when our local paper came out, my boss saw it was her friends' son. Killed over how much spice to put in the gumbo. This is one of the stories I wish I didn't have to hear about.
