Good Morning!!!! 48F in Klamath Falls at 6:15AM. Partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 74F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.
Beautiful day yesterday with mild temps, big puffy clouds, and lots of sunshine. Big thunderheads built up toward sunset, but no rain fell in the immediate area.
My buddy here gets irrigation water from the county, so yesterday we dropped by a hardware store and got some hose fittings and more sprinklers. The yard was a wreck when he purchased the place three years ago, and after demolishing several shacks and pens, he's slowly reclaiming the ground by growing and mowing weeds. A very cost effective way of turning it green.
Filled the van up while we were out, and averaged almost 19 MPG on the trip down from Gresham. Better than I expected. Also managed to find a chicken fried steak for breakfast that held me well until a BBQ dinner. My buddy isn't much of a BBQer yet, but I'm training him. Gotta keep those man skills sharp, right?
We also went through the ignition system on his touring BMW, same bike I have. He had wired the two ignition coil primaries in parallel, which doubled the current draw and was overworking his charging system. He's also running an aftermarket electronic ignition, which was seeing a very low voltage during starting. We rewired the coils so they are now in series, and the voltage drop is much less. That will help, but I don't thing we found the cause of an intermittent crank-won't start problem we went looking for. But it's a start. My guess is it's a loose or bad connection, so he'll start uplugging, cleaning, and applying DeOxIt after I leave today.
More back roads on the route today. I was hoping to drop down through Lassen Volcanic National Park, but the road is still snowed in. So more high desert before transitioning back to big pines north and east of Chico.
No plans for a scooby van, Kyle, but the idea for a zebra wrap did cross my mind!
I have a new engine wiring harness on order for the VW, Don, and if it gets the engine running again, I'll install all the camper furniture and get rid of it. It should pay for the majority of the ProMaster's cost.
I did log a case with RAM support this morning for a cell phone charging cradle that only charges for a couple minutes before disconnecting. Phone almost went dead during Friday's trip before I noticed the problem, so today I'll keep a USB cable handy for when the phone gets low again.
Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!
