Good morning!!!!

Good morning.
28 outside, 60 inside, hmmm..
Not my week for HVAC.
IMG_1267.jpg

Fortunately I knew immediately what the problem was. I changed the water filters yesterday morning and turned off the geothermal heat pump so it wouldn’t run without water. When I was done with the filters, I forgot to turn the heat on. Actually pretty impressive that the house was only 60 after almost 24 hours without heat. Urethane foam insulation really works.

I’m sure that anyone that has used the cheesey plastic wrench that comes with water filters experienced the frustration that caused me to make this.

I use it with a 1/2” drive ratchet or breaker bar. It works extremely well, I would bet there is a market for them if I mass produced them, but I don’t have that capability.

After the rain let up I went back to work on the heat pump, replaced the contactor, the low voltage wiring into the shop, and carefully dressed the wiring keeping the control wiring away from line voltage wiring. Not that it makes a difference, but the control wiring was only energized with 120v as it was just one leg of the 240 and it returned through the common ground.
After it was all back together, being a bit shell shocked, I tested it using a separate transformer with a fuse inline before connecting it to the air handler.

Fortunately all the smoke stayed inside where it belongs, so I connected it to the equipment interface.

And finally all is well again. Mounted the interface, buttoned everything up and moved on to the next project.

Checked on the drainage project, and it is flowing as intended.

Now I’m going to gather up some tools and supplies to meet with Drew and Ken at Drew’s place.

heat is on in the rv so Ken will get the warm job.
Paul is stuck out in the cold, replacing a spigot, but then in basement replacing some broken water valves.
One split, one really old. Every time I turn on the water for outside, it shoots water right in my face.
Fix me, fix me....
I have the parts, now awaiting the talent.

Did you determine what was the cause of the control wiring being energized?

Yes. The 24vac wire to the condensing unit was against one leg of the load side of contactor, and had chafed through their mutal insulation. You would not expect enough vibration to do that. I have over the years, seen control wiring chafe on copper tubing around the compressor or coil plumbing and short the low voltage to ground, but this is the first I have ever seen a connection from high to low voltage.

Good morning! Low of 34°, going up to 56°. A slight chance for a sprinkle remains. Got 0.13" last night, just enough to keep the dust down. Another windy day today, but gusts only to 35 mph.

Stayed inside yesterday and binge watched a Marvel series called "Moon Knight"..... it was definitely strange, but interesting at the same time. By the time we went through all six episodes, we were mostly disappointed at the end.

Drew, my friend bought a similar RV as yours last summer. The first thing he did was change the front sway bar with a heavy aftermarket one, including a dual steering stabilizer kit. Also changed out the front shocks. He reported a dramatic improvement in the ride and the tracking going down the road.
Thanks for the ICW link.... I can almost smell the salty air!

I will join the club hating the time change. Our state may stick to DST this year..... It almost happened last year, but didn't make it to the Governor's desk. Fingers are crossed.

David, good job on the track. Waiting to see the doors up!

Paul, good to hear you got the heat back running. Temp change definitely wasn't too bad for sure!

Everyone have a peaceful Sunday!

Try not to let the blue smoke out of the replacement parts…

😂🤣

66°F and no rain

Paint day ahead. No up and down the ladder.

Spent some time at the cottage investigating a leak. Seems the sealer tape has come away just under the upstairs door. Same door we we replace with the new slider.

Woke up during the night 2 fingers itching like crazy. When picking tomatoes I had got stung. Had to take Benedetto and fortunately was able to get back to sleep. Notice this morning that the stung finger is a bit swollen.

Prayers for at
Be safe
Have a great day
