Good morning.
28 outside, 60 inside, hmmm..
Not my week for HVAC.
Fortunately I knew immediately what the problem was. I changed the water filters yesterday morning and turned off the geothermal heat pump so it wouldn’t run without water. When I was done with the filters, I forgot to turn the heat on. Actually pretty impressive that the house was only 60 after almost 24 hours without heat. Urethane foam insulation really works.
I’m sure that anyone that has used the cheesey plastic wrench that comes with water filters experienced the frustration that caused me to make this.
I use it with a 1/2” drive ratchet or breaker bar. It works extremely well, I would bet there is a market for them if I mass produced them, but I don’t have that capability.
After the rain let up I went back to work on the heat pump, replaced the contactor, the low voltage wiring into the shop, and carefully dressed the wiring keeping the control wiring away from line voltage wiring. Not that it makes a difference, but the control wiring was only energized with 120v as it was just one leg of the 240 and it returned through the common ground.
After it was all back together, being a bit shell shocked, I tested it using a separate transformer with a fuse inline before connecting it to the air handler.
Fortunately all the smoke stayed inside where it belongs, so I connected it to the equipment interface.
And finally all is well again. Mounted the interface, buttoned everything up and moved on to the next project.
Checked on the drainage project, and it is flowing as intended.
Now I’m going to gather up some tools and supplies to meet with Drew and Ken at Drew’s place.
