5° now. Gusts of 20 mph. Max wind was 45mph. Forecast said wind would die down by 8 pm, but didn’t.

I turned the temperature up on the pellet stove for the night. The aux electric heat is running upstairs.

Yes the time frame was 1973 to 1975 or so. I am don't think you will find it on the internet. it was an internal to TU study that they don't want out there. it was part of their planning studies for future generation capacity. it caused them to upgrade fuel oil firing to make up for short falls in Ng firing. Although most of their planning was based on using fuel oil firing already built into their dual fueled fired stations. And that created a further study to see what that would be?

This article seems to cover that time period.

"Still, one lesson Texas could take from the 1970s is that what seems clever today may not remain so tomorrow. A classic example involves the trade-offs between coal and natural gas power. In the mid-’70s, convinced that gas supplies were running out, state regulators ordered electric utilities to reduce their use of the fuel. So they started burning coal instead."

The low pressure of the natural gas supply was not only on my street this morning it was all over central Texas. Everyone who bought a $10K natural gas generator after the last freeze (like my neighbor) when no electricity was the problem is pretty mad.
From the TxRRC: RRC directed Atmos to quickly resolve low-pressure issues in localized areas of Central Texas and increase the number of Atmos technicians working customer service tickets in the affected areas. Atmos' call center is open to take customer calls.

This came out about 8pm: Update: Gas pressure for Atmos Energy has improved in affected areas. Atmos brought in CNG for its systems. The company is maintaining employees in the area overnight.

Power outages (due to localized issues, down lines, etc) are down to 28k across the state. Hearing a lot about gas service outages in WillCo area.

Good morning, wow, the temperature here is a whopping 17 and going down to a daytime high of 14°F and we are warmer than Texas. Wind WSW 15 gusting to 31mph. We've got 4" since I finished plowing. Probably by the time I get my butt in gear we will have had another inch. I do NOT plow at night. I have enough lights and a amber carnival light but I did enough of that when I worked for municipalities. I work for myself now and a few neighbours and plow when I get a round tuit.

After I finished plowing yesterday I swapped to the bucket. It does a nicer job that the V-plow. I have to open up two of my snow dumps and would rather have the bucket on in case I get stuck.

I didn't turn the block heater on in the tractor for a couple of hours, mainly because I wasn't going to plow until today, but the neighbour that feeds me wanted her driveway plowed. Two heat cycles and she started on one cylinder and farted and slobbered and finally the other two fired off. As much as I like the smell of unburned diesel fuel, I would rather it be on someone elses equipment.

My buddy 45 minutes south and an hour east, on the same latitude as Huntsville, ON has got a foot of snow and more on the way. Huntsville is right in the snow belt as is Bancroft, where buddy is. I am north of said snow belt.

You guys that are not accustomed to the deeper cold below zero temperatures try to stay warm. Get yer long johns out. Layers work. If you get too hot you can always take a layer off, but if you don't have it on and get too cold, then you are in trouble.
Don't forget gloves! Warm skin touching cold steel is a prescription for pain, and keep your tongue in your mouth and off the cold steel/aluminum.

Stay warm all, I'll check in later IF anything happens that is news worthy.

Morning all! 7 here going to 15 or so.
So sorry for your brother Lou!
Up to early coughing and sniffling. Yah me! Hopefully just dry from the cpap machine. Wife is still coughing and still has laryngitis. Christmas will be scaled way back with her not feeling well. We will watch the family open gifts tonight and rest tomorrow.
Nothing planned for today except snow cleanup and make a few items for tonight.
Had to run to the apartment house yesterday to fix the garage door again! No more! Ordering a new door and opener next week. Original owner bought cheap and installed poorly! We plan on moving in here once we find a warm winter place and sell our house so it is worth doing right.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas eve!

Merry Christmas Eve morning

10° now, mostly sunny today, with a high near 20. SW wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Yesterdays storm brought 2.85” rain and the highest local wind gusts were around 65 mph, no real damage here. It ended with a dusting of snow, just enough to cover any ice patches. Plenty of pick up sticks in the spring when it thaws out. Only lost power for about 20 minutes at supper time, statewide over 100,000 without power at the peak. Feel sorry for those trying to get ready for tomorrow.

Dump run this morning and a “quick“ trip to the store for a couple of things and that’s it for the weekend. Just the wife and I for a quiet holiday.

Enjoy your Christmas everyone

Prayers for those in need, our country and peace around the world

A chilly good morning to all,
It is 12F here, winds have dropped down some, still blowing in the 15-25mph range. Forecast for a sunny day with a high of 23 today.

Power still dropping out. Since about 6 pm yesterday the power has been dropping out for 2-5 seconds, on for 1 sec, off for 1 sec and then back on. It has been dropping out every 5-15 minutes. Tough on electronics, have turned most of the breakers off except for heat, refrigerator and a few outlets. Using phone hotspot to access internet as Starlink takes a few minutes to reboot every time power goes out, and it is one of the things I have turned the breaker off on.

No trees down across the driveway yesterday, just a few small branches. I haven't ventured out this morning to see what damage happened overnight.

No idea what today is going to bring, will depend on what we find once the sun comes up and I can see what damage we have.
