Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #155,291
am thinking about making the grand trek. As in taking train to Texas, then to California, cruise ship to Hawaii, train to Chicago and home. Maybe come back the Canadian railroad, friends said that was wonderful. I have two big trips left on my bucket list. Some of you remember Head West Not So Young Man thread. Never made it. Determined to do so. Need to go by train in a country reknown for crappy trains. Second trip is to my brother's lake home at top of UP. Almost on Canadian border. He has my old boat up there, the Scout, and I want like crazy to go drive it up on those waters. He sends me pics of them zipping around, big smiles on everyone, and I just sigh. Too small now, but perfect for grandchildren who all use/drive it.
will take me quite a while to plan this.

found a pic of little boat when I first bought it, took it down to Delaware where we must have gone to the Lewes ramp to get in water. That motor got replaced with a 70 just before oldest brother got boat and took it to Michigan.

Being out on the water is just a wonderful feeling of freedom. Within reason you can go anywhere you want. No lines to follow.
And when you get out on the ocean, in blue water with no land in sight anywhere, a sense of genuine humility comes over you when you realize what an insignificant little speck you are
in the grand scheme of things.
of course for some folks it means two six packs of beer and hooting and hollering. Folks everywhere videotaping boats coming in and out of inlets with folks doing really stupid things.
Like the twerking teenagers on the Miami River. With dental floss bikinis. Try explaining that to your children Mom... Boating seems to liberate folks in many ways.
I'm a Pisces, raised on a farm with a big swimming pool, good swimmer, well was, and love being on the water.
Not necessarily in the water with fish with giant teeth, but love to snorkel in Keys and look at fish.

49° now dew point 46° high’s in the low 80’s with sunshine and light winds today.

Dump run this morning then breakfast out with the mrs.
No plans for today other than moving some supplies from around the garden shed so it can be accessed to replace the roof shingles. Probably just do quick rolled roofing job, it’s an old not very well constructed shed that was here when we bought the place but it keeps the weather off things.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend

71F and clear @ 21:00, heading down to an overnight low of around 61F.

Gonna be a short post.

Was moving some rocks in the bucket with the Kubota behind the pole barn this afternoon, stopped to toss a couple more in and got a little too close (6’) to a Yellowjacket nest in the ground at the rat wall.

Got chased all the way around to the front and to the other end and they were still buzzing and stinging me. At that point we both ran towards the house.

Was nailed probably between 10 and 20 times. Woman got nailed once when one climbed up under her shirt while trying to swat them off me.

Left hand, left shoulder, left leg around the knee, right forearm and bunches around both ankles.

Nasty little buggers.
<snip>
Stories of getting stung take me back to my pre teens. There was an old abandoned brick structure next to our lot in Underhill, VT that housed umpteen yellow jacket nests. Our cohort of young stupid boys would go over and chunk stones at the nests. The dare was to see how many stings one could take before one gave up. Luckily no one was extremely sensitive to the stings.

<snip> We're kind of like a bunch of old guys sitting around having coffee every morning at the local spot. I've grown rather fond of you guys.

EXactly, some of us are regulars several times a day, others just drop in occasionally. But the thread is sort of self policing.
A lot of good knowledge can be gained here and few arguments arise.
Unlike the old Friendly Politics which was like a rowdy bar with frequent fights.

Interesting drive today.

Went over to WV and did some exploring for land. Just a gorgeous nice day.
We passed what appeared to be a good local restaurant before we got to town. Looked good by the number of cars there.
We pull into town, wife wanted to eat before looking at the lot but I missed seeing a place I had in mind. Has food lion and a TSC. We stopped at DQ for restroom break, and I decided to go back and check out that little restaurant.
We walk in, all tables taken, small place, 5 tables and a few bar stools. Nice inside.
Couple guys and a woman sitting at a table said they were about done, we could join them. 3 of them, 5 chairs at a round table. The lady works there, she got up and went back to kitchen area. We’re sitting there chatting with these 2 guys, they were just as friendly as could be. One first guy retired there from MD about 10 yrs ago, his wife waitresses at the place, they came for lunch and shoot the breeze, the other was his neighbor, who had also lived in MD at one time before moving here while in HS. The first guy said he bought his land, dug well and put in septic, and camped on his land for years before retiring and building a house. They have lots of advice, recommended well drillers, real estate people etc. then another friend of theirs came in and sate with us and chatted some more. The first 2 left when our food came, we chatted with this other guy until some of his buddies came in and he joined them.
Great food. Homemade everything. Everyone we meet as friendly as can be.
We eventually made it to the lot we went to see
Beautiful with minimal restrictions.
This 5.6 acre lot is almost perfectly flat on top.

There’s a big old tank, I’m guessing once used as a water tank on this lot, with old building beside it.
View attachment 760811

It is priced for the view, at least double other lots it’s size
What’s weird is the lots developed in 1986, has over 30 lots, this 2nd largest. Most 2-3 acres.
There are only 2 houses, 1 looks like original farm house. There are 5-6 lots currently for sale. Homeowners responsible for road maintenance, most roads in development have no gravel but are cleared nice. Main Road is in good shape.

One of the no gravel roads.
View attachment 760814

Decisions decisions. A bit steep in price. Only the 1 lot has the views. Most are down in the woods around this one.

2 miles out of town. Less than 3 miles from food lion, TSC and the county hospital. all roads paved until this development.
Nice darn nice looking piece of dirt BEF...retirement me time. :)

Mr. & Mrs. Mostly wishing you both many more trips around the sun hand in hand. :)

Buckeye, Logistic sound good. Does the house with the train on top have electricity to it?

Mostlys - Happy Anniversary!

Electric is at other end of the lot with the pear trees. No evidence of electric to the mystery building. Probably take 2 poles to reach this lot. Phone line runs alongside the lot. Great cell signal. Tower on the mountain to the east, full bars signal.
That big tank is a mystery. Real estate agent not sure it was on this property, but is on this side of fence to neighbors pasture. It appears fence is on lot line.
If the neighbors pasture was to grow up with trees, could lose the south view. Right now pasture is clean.
Only trees on lot is along north side road, and a few around the tank building.
NE side of lot slopes down towards another 5 acre lot in same field. Lot ends here on the left.

I might consider off grid solar.

my oh my
bad news
our friend Toppop passed away several weeks ago.
His medical challenges must have been too much.
a good friend.
Thanks for Engineer42 tracking this down.
Bummer
here is his always smiling face just as I remember it:
I've gotten behind on reading by a few days...and then see this.

This reading of Randy hits me hard too. Prayers for Ellen and his family. He was such a good person, I have missed him since he quit posting. Having been through some rough times and good times with him (online), I feel like I lost a great friend. We lost a great friend. IIRC, his last post he seemed optimistic about getting better, but the Good Lord was ready for him. I'm thankful for his faith.

Buckeye, that is a good looking lot. Being flat on top is great and will not limit you in what you want to do with it. That tank is a mystery. Is there any liquid inside it? May want to do a test to make sure you don't get involved in disposal issues

Good morning! .04" of rain last night! 74˚F heading only to the upper 80s with wind from the North, cloud cover and a 50% chance of "Flash Floods". The news media tries to spark things up and instead of saying just rain it is always a flash flood now. Sensationalism news.

After the 3" rain Monday the okra took off. It is head high and blooming like crazy. Oka picking day today but still munching on the 5 air fry batches from the large pick 3 days ago. Might just pick, cut and freeze this pick. The tomatillos made another good jar of Salza Verde sauce, which was used up in a day on enchiladas, so time to pick another dozen. But with the lack of rain this summer, if it does rain today, I'll just sit on the patio and rejuvenate in the sounds and smells of still much needed rain.
