am thinking about making the grand trek. As in taking train to Texas, then to California, cruise ship to Hawaii, train to Chicago and home. Maybe come back the Canadian railroad, friends said that was wonderful. I have two big trips left on my bucket list. Some of you remember Head West Not So Young Man thread. Never made it. Determined to do so. Need to go by train in a country reknown for crappy trains. Second trip is to my brother's lake home at top of UP. Almost on Canadian border. He has my old boat up there, the Scout, and I want like crazy to go drive it up on those waters. He sends me pics of them zipping around, big smiles on everyone, and I just sigh. Too small now, but perfect for grandchildren who all use/drive it.
will take me quite a while to plan this.
found a pic of little boat when I first bought it, took it down to Delaware where we must have gone to the Lewes ramp to get in water. That motor got replaced with a 70 just before oldest brother got boat and took it to Michigan.
Being out on the water is just a wonderful feeling of freedom. Within reason you can go anywhere you want. No lines to follow.
And when you get out on the ocean, in blue water with no land in sight anywhere, a sense of genuine humility comes over you when you realize what an insignificant little speck you are
in the grand scheme of things.
of course for some folks it means two six packs of beer and hooting and hollering. Folks everywhere videotaping boats coming in and out of inlets with folks doing really stupid things.
Like the twerking teenagers on the Miami River. With dental floss bikinis. Try explaining that to your children Mom... Boating seems to liberate folks in many ways.
I'm a Pisces, raised on a farm with a big swimming pool, good swimmer, well was, and love being on the water.
Not necessarily in the water with fish with giant teeth, but love to snorkel in Keys and look at fish.
