75F and fair @ 21:15, heading down to 68F for the low. Was quite breezy today, made the heat not seem quite as bad.

Started off using the Stihl pole saw to prune low-hanging branches along the driveway. It will need some touch up, after I clean up the limbs I took down.

After that removed the box blade and quick hitch from the Kubota and then mounted the PHD and 2' auger.

Ended up drilling 3 holes up along the road (for oaks), plus one where the old redbud that died was (possibly for another redbud) and 30 holes along the west property line for the forsythias, with properly another 4 or 5 still to go there.

One hole attempted that I could not complete, due to running into a large sandstone rock which will have to be dug out. From earlier today:

There's still another 4 holes or so to dig down here around back of the house (2 for peach trees, 2 for redbud, and maybe one for another magnolia)

And probably a few more if I really think about it.

Have two more days of nice weather before the day with a good possibility of rain comes in (Wednesday) Will need to get the drilled holes filled with screened compost so it can settle with the rain and work on soil compaction over at the barn and get the dirt there tarped before the rain arrives.

Took a lunch break around 15:30 and ended up staying in for a while since it was pretty warm out ... and to let my neck recover ... 😫

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Good evening all. 70F for the start, clear sky, light breeze. Light wind day, sky stayed mostly clear and high temp was 87F, DP 60F. Chapel to start day, then made wife breakfast. Conserve energy rest of day. Going to pass on mowing this week. May take weed eater for a walk. Indian creek will stop running soon if no rain, barely a trickle now.

RS, good luck with the wildflower project.
Thanks - I'm sure we'll need it ...

For years my wife has been spreading flower seeds from our hay meadow to a patch of grass close to the house. Every year it grows terrific grass, yet very few wild flowers ever germinate.
That seems odd.

This winter I will be allowed to kill off the grass with glyphosate and like you, get down to bare soil. Pretty sure that will allow lots of seeds to grow, just not sure what - could produce the finest ever crop of thistles :)
LOL ... no shortage of thistles here ... (y)

Did enjoy taking dad for a spin around the farm in my truck. Also played him the sermon I gave at church a couple weeks ago.
But sad to leave.
Then I drove to my grandfathers farm, and the trees have overtaken the field, house and barn
IMG_1546.JPG

How I enjoyed playing there as a kid. Sad to see the state it’s in.
Then stopped at cemetery to visit mom. Miss her.
Today is also 10 yrs since my oldest sister died too young from cancer.

Other than that, beautiful weather for the trip home.

Poured first cup of coffee. 63° with mostly cloudy skies. Heading to 72° with thunderstorms in afternoon. Tiki bar roof is back together. Need to install some artificial grass around edges. Hope storms hold off until that is done. PT later this morning. Need to mow grass. Do not think weather is going to allow it.
