Ron, good news on test. No aliens...
Bill, sorry you got sick. Salmonella can make you very sick for several days. This is a reminder to wash your hands after handling eggs and chicken,
particularly chicken. The US for some reason does not enforce mandatory salmonella prevention in our chickens the same way Europe does.
Likely due to Perdue lobbying. The rationale is that salmonella dies in cooking. Ok, but meanwhile you have it on your hands from the raw meat.
Something like 90 percent of the raw chicken in the US has traces of salmonella. Appetizing?
I try to use a fork and not touch the chicken before cooking, then the fork goes right into dishwasher.

hi, sunny and cold.

Ron-sounds like MRI went well, great news
Drew - good news on the lease and sounds like some tractor fun soon
Bowmans hill tower is a climb, took my kid there a while back. good views of the canopy and river.
Eric - I do have to remove trash on main road here, but not too bad. Hate the broken bottles, but have not had any on the last 6 months or so. Just some fast food trash and beer cans.
David-Rail repair looks good, clever
Paul-now added teachers to 1A (which they should have done a while back) in PA-try St. Mary's

Stay safe and be well.

Good morning. It was 41° and zero wind this morning with sunshine and mid 70's forecast for this afternoon. The warm afternoons are slowly drying out pastures but still many very soft places.

I did get another brush pile burned yesterday. This was a relatively small one compared to the other four.

Called our County dispatch, on my radio, to notify them of a controlled burn and lit it at 9:45 a.m.

If wind stay down .. I'll light another one this morning.

Our VFD strongly promotes assisting folks with brush piles in our our protection area. We offer to inspect them .. prior to burning to assure a safe, orderly burn. We offer to standby, with one or more of our apparatus if needed. And .. we notify our County Dispatch before lighting and again when a controlled burn is terminated. All of the VFDs in our County get "false alarms" when passers by see a controlled burn and call 911. That's a major reason we're proactive and .. why I notify our dispatch for my own burns.

Hoping everyone has a great day.

Prayers for all.

36°F and clear skies again this morning, going up to 63° today. We not only flirted with 70° yesterday, we actually hit 72°. Nice, for the first week of March.

The patient search for kayaks finally paid off yesterday when the Pelican sit-on-top model we've been eyeballin' came available on the Academy Sports website. It noted that they had limited inventory available at the local O'Fallon IL location. After I got home from work, I ordered one, got the confirmation that it was ready to pick up at the store, and drove back over there about 7pm. Thankfully, it is possible to carry a 10' kayak in a Kia Rio 5-door, as the F-150 is still down. The front tip of the bow was up against the dashboard, and the stern only protruded about 2'. Strapped it down to the headrest supports on the folded-down rear seats, and bungied the hatch door. It wasn't ideal, but it worked.

They have a policy right now that you can only buy one per day, I suppose because kayaks are a hot commodity right now. So, Wifey ordered the second one this morning, and I'll pick it up on my way home from work today.

Luther, The Wife and I started hiking on some local trails last Summer. We never returned empty handed, as we were always bringing back trash we picked up along the way. It's disappointing that some people feel it's OK to just drop stuff wherever they want.

We had a Tim Horton's in O'Fallon IL for a brief period a couple years ago, L4N. It didn't stay open long. The franchisee, who owned several new locations, ended up suing TH over their lack of support. He couldn't get supplies shipped to him in a timely manner, and it cost him his business. I think he lasted maybe six months. I never had the chance to stop there, but in hindsight that almost seems like fate intervening on my behalf. Doesn't seem like a very good organization. They sure do spend a lot on hockey advertising, though.

We don't have "right of way" laws here, Eric. If there's a fence around a property, it generally means you're not welcome there unless invited. Need to get to the other side? Walk around. Most Americans (myself included these days) need the additional exercise anyway.

42F cloudy windy.

My wife is back in the office (which used to be the dining room). She is feeling a lot better. Her reaction to the second Moderna shot lasted about a day and a half.

It is a lot nicer walking in the neighborhood now that the snow banks are mostly gone. Even though drivers generally move over for pedestrians I like to step off if I can.

PJ, I think those plastic kayaks are close to the perfect boat. Cheap, easy to use and easy to take care of. Only trouble I have had is one summer the squirrels decided to chew on them. Of my 6 boats my Pungo 14 is my favorite but I see others all the time I would like to try.

Take care all.

Chris

Didn’t get finished, but did make progress.
Getting the frame aligned was a real challenge- combination of jack and clamps.

Broken

Mended with inner plate

Still need the outer plate.
Would have liked a bit tighter, but just couldn’t make it happen. Wonder if perhaps the edge were deformed a bit. Spent way too much time trying to get no gap.

Finish tomorrow.

I had the same problem in a GT5000 Craftsman with a Johnny Bucket in it, I ended up bolting and welding a plate. I was afraid the welding might make the old frame brittle, but with the extra weight I was loading it with I figured it was worth trying. Worked great.
