Not my favorite item to work on for sure.Actually, I did replace them. Nice tool, but as I said, I hate working on oil burners and avoid them like the plague. My goal was to get them heat, and have them get the furnace properly serviced by someone else.
The fuel oil smell is a pain and I have a difficult time trying to find disposable gloves that fit,
but many of my clothes have oil stains on them, so what the heck.
But I've always done all mine and most of the ones over on the farm.
Occasionally I get a call from a friend of a friend or neighbor that's out of heat in the middle of a cold spell.
And after my first time of having to buy a part from a service tech when my boiler went down the first time
I have slowly been building up an inventory of Beckett burner parts. I have the components to completely rebuild one now.
After having to replace the motor on one for the farm this fall and thinking that mine is over 25 years old and runs year round for hot water I got a second one for a spare.
Now I'm kind of watching Craigs list for a complete spare that looks good.
