Just got a credit card bill today, that was due the 21st. Have another bill missing that was due the 22. Now to fight the late fees and interest.

The post office just needs to be shut down, as they can’t do their job.

One cancelled the fees, the other won’t, which is my Costco card. I can’t cancel it yet, got almost $300 cash back coming next month.

Snow wasn't melting off, so got the tractor out and plowed the drive. Then noticed some drifts going across the entrance road, so plowed that too!

Tomorrow, the septic pumping service is coming out to empty the septic tank and do an inspection. My son was supposed to close on the sale of the house last week.... until the title company called and said they needed an inspection.... nice to wait until the last minute! It's not like they didn't know this before hand....

Couldn't get it done any sooner.... they actually were scheduling times into the middle of February. A little begging and they squeezed us in....
Then today, the title company emailed me asking for another signed "release of information " form.... they apparently lost the first one....
This sale / closing was supposed to be super-simple.... apparently they are not used to "simple".... original closing was supposed to be a month ago....

Anyway, I've been super busy.... following along here, but not posting much....

Sure wish the local fire unit were so supportive of their community. They'd never permit that large of a brush pile, and they sure as heck wouldn't get off their butts to come out and standby during a burn.

Regardless, I've lit a few piles that big, and learned they're a lot easier to control if you just light 'em in one place. That way you can use a hose to keep the flames down and control how fast it moves through the pile. Takes a little longer, but there's a lot less ember cast and you don't have to stand so far away from the flames.:2cents:

We communicate with our neighbors often .. that we'd rather spend an hour making sure everything is done right than a day (or more) trying to get a screw up under control.

This was all cedar trees and was going to burn fast anyway.

pretty sure Rick's neighbor gave a nice donation to the fire company for standing by.
This also gives good practice for young members to advance lines against burning brush.
If you don't call it in first as a controlled burn, and some nervous Nellie sees smoke and
dials 911 without thinking, most fire companies are required to extinguish the fire, totally.
As in isn't going to light again any time soon either.
Plus now you have heavy truck ruts all over your place.

I would never burn without a charged garden hose nearby but sometimes that isn't available.
Have to have some kind of plan though. A fire truck full of water, even 250 gallons, is mighty nice to have nearby
Just ask RNG.

This gentlemen has been very generous to our VFD in the 1 1/2 years he's been a neighbor.

When I first bought my property, there was a huge pile of brush out back that had been piled there for years.

I did some cleaning up around the place. Trimmed some over grown trees and low laying branches.

Went out and tossed a match into that pile of brush. By this point it was about 30x60 and around 10ft tall or so.

That pile went fast!!!! Flames were about 100ft in the air and was burned down to a small pile of coals within a half an hour

That was also the day I met all my new neighbors

I usually have burn pile that sit for a year before they get torched. I always call them in, always have a hose, always cut a firebreak around the perimeter and always have the tractor on standby.

And wouldn't you know it...I know the Fire Chief by name, because some neighbors are always asking them if my barn is burning down.

I tell them, I appreciate the on the spot checkup.

All the ten VFDs, in our County ask their constituents to notify 911 dispatch, in advance, of any controlled burn, prescriptive pasture burns, etc . so .. if neighbors get nervous and call 911, the dispatcher is already aware and doesn't send crews out on false calls. But still there's a few .....

Sure hope so anyway. My wife and I got our second (and presumably last) Moderna Covid-19 injections this morning. So we hope they work.

I'll probably always remember when I got this injection since tomorrow will be my 81st birthday.

Glad y'all got your shots Mr. Bird and Happy Birthday tomorrow!
