Congrats on retirement mpham!

The temp is 53 and going up to 54°F. Wind WSW 14 gusting to 20 mph. 30% chance of T-storms and it is raining now.

I need to go to town and grab the winters' worth of high test gas for the genny and mowers. The new battery is in for the Kioti and that is my project for today. Swap batteries.

My old sweetheart (2001 Freightliner) is going to the auction. The company expects to get about $17,000.oo for it. They are dreaming of pie in the sky. 17 grand is way too high for that truck, 10 would be more like it. If I had the money for the in-frame (C 15 cat) it desperately needs I would buy it myself, but not for 17 G's.

Have a safe day all

55 going to 82. Might wash the vehicles today. Might be the last day in 80s til next year.

Congratulations, Phil! 1st day of retirement...I'll never forget mine...went to a Presidential candidate rally about 15 miles away and saw Ricky Scaggs perform while we waited for the bus to drive in.

Don, you need to make your first You-tube...would hate to think that the art of barbed wire rolling would disappear like so many other customs and tricks only passed down by parents and grandparents. At the Folk Music festivals we attend, there are old-time craftsman making things on display...from stripping oak to make baskets to moonshining...always big crowds to see how it's done.

It sounds like not only lumber prices may be going up, maybe also Irish Spring...with all you are using RS, might become a national shortage. :)

Left early yesterday to drive up the North Section of Shenandoah NP...hiked to Overall Run Falls. I last hiked it in October of 2017, and can't remember if you said you've done it, BEF. It is a 6.1 miles hike, and 1,694 feet of elevation gain, Kyle. Saw only a few folks, and three dogs. Surprisingly no bears. Talked with one solo backpacker woman who was on her 5th day on the trail (Tuscarora Trail, which cuts off the Appalachian Trail and runs over to West Virginia, and Overall Falls is on the way). Leaves weren't at peak, but some individual trees were.

Sounds like a great hike. Especially the "no bears" part.

Woke up to the driveway alert sounding off. Saw a work truck with 2 trailers had pulled in our place, and ran through our field to do a u turn...on the way back out. Good thing pasture is dry. :(

Good Morning!!!! 70F @ 5:30AM. Partly cloudy skies. High 88F. Winds light and variable.
AQI 63 and 128, inside and out. Gradually getting better, and should improve a lot more when the wind switches direction tomorrow. Those numbers are for home, but I woke up this morning in Rocklin, CA, and the air is very good here. Back into the soup this morning.

Sounds like you're getting your retirement off on the right foot, Phil. Being able to roll over for another hour or two of additional sleep is just one of the perks of being your own boss from here on out.

Thanks for the MAF story, Kyle. To be filed away under "hope it never happens to me, but ready now if it does".

I'd watch your barb wire rolling video, Don. There's not very much of it here, but there is some, and it will probably get replaced some day...

I'm writing this on the iPad this morning, so if the apostrophies get clobbered, that's why...

Yesterday was a very good day. The buyer of the security cams arrived at our rendezvous the same time I did, we had a nice chat about home automation and rural living in retirement, and wished each other well in parting. An hour later I was sitting at a nice table in the shade at the apple orchard about to dive into a plate of BBQ pulled pork, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. Picked up four half gallons of fresh pressed cider, and an hour later I was watching the smog tech watch the EGR valve work, smile, then quickly run through the prompts on the computer screen to get the inspection passed. An hour after that I was unloading a full shopping cart of adult beverages into the van after a visit at Total Wine and More, a kind of Costco for alcoholics. And not long after that, my old friend here was treating me to a taste of his favorite tequila and we were toasting seeing each other again. What with CV19 and his crazy work schedule, it had been the better part of a year. Dinner at his favorite Italian restaurant was very, very good, then another round of Scotch around his gas fired fire pit on a perfectly warm evening made a perfect end to a very good day.

Not a perfect day, as the van has learned a new Diagnostic Trouble Code to throw, one I had to turn off twice and hope it didn't pop up again during the smog inspection. No idea what it is yet, but I suppose it's nice to have something to do when I get home.:confused2: My voicemail held a message from a county tree inspector that said she plans to inspect my property today, and to call back if she'd have a gate to get through. Recall I hand lettered two requirements onto the form I signed granting permission for the inspection, one to call me in advance to arrange a suitable time, and two to be sure I was in attendance to escort the inspector. The tone of her note made it clear she was not aware of either provision, so I left her a voicemail of my own telling her that she is not to be on the property without me. We'll see how that goes.

Happy hump day, folks!

Good morning. It's 59°, with no wind, this morning and high is forecast to get to 86° this afternoon.

A doctor friend, in Houston, was admitted to the hospital yesterday with COVID 19. He's in his late 50's and evidently has severe symptoms. He was to be married later this month. His fiancé texted me that he's really scared about his condition. He's on oxygen but .. still no ventilator luckily.

We got three more burn piles taken care of over the last few days .. so, if winds stay calm will get another one lit today.

I filled in two big gullies, in the out flow of our big pond, yesterday. We'll let it settle for a few days, pack it, and add more soil as needed.

Tractor will need a bath.

Hope everyone has a great "Hump Day" today.

Prayers to all.

Good morning 50 going up to 77- somewhat cloudy

Buried oak stump-just need to add some dirt and level that whole area, about 30x30 or so-and that area will be done and ready to seed!

Kyle - no on the fix for the pool leak-it's behind the wall- my pool guy will stop by when he gets a day or so and we will break up cement to get to it. about an 8x2 foot piece of cement, so it'll be some work.
RS - you're days always sound so busy-feel tired now :) - Sorry to hear about your wifes friend-our prayers and good wishes
It's Phil's Day!
Drew - good luck with the tests!
Randy-fog looked like that the other day here-next morning after we watched the movie "the fog" of course
RNG-Van inspected? will the saga continue :) sounds like a great day besides the lights-I have an inspector coming today to check I have enough vegetation in my swale- thinking of setting up an inspection shack since they seem to love coming out here.
LCR -hope they can keep your friend off the ventilator. Would like to see stats of deaths caused by ventilator-won;t happen though-they seemed to have learned their, very painful, lesson. Do No Use until patient under 80%o2 sat.

Today I need to take the deck off and fix the corner I bashed in. Hitting the blade-might as well sharpen the blade too.

Stay safe and be well

I have rolled barbed wire. We saved everything on the farm. We reused wire on other fences, it didn’t stay rolled long. Don can make that video.

I remember your last Overall Falls hike. I have never hiked it.
Tuscarora trail swings way out west and I believe it comes back East and hits the AT again in PA. Never hiked it either.

Kid got bit by an aggressive pit bull dog in Catoctin national park last weekend. The dog was leashed, the guy with it told them it was aggressive, but yet it still managed to bite a kid as they passed. Guy and dog took off, kid is now getting rabies shots.

Woke up at my normal time and said nope not happening! (slept 2 more hours)

I woke up early, then overslept. Maybe I should just retire? Lol. I can sing Johnny paycheck.
I can start drawing retirement from my first job in a month, left that job 17 yrs ago. But, without health insurance so that’s not happening. And still paying for a kid in college.

Congrats!!

55°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 85° today.

Congratulations, Phil!

I suppose a congratulations is in order for RNG as well, leaping that final hurdle with the Vanagon project.

Hope all goes well at your appointment, Drew.
