Good morning, rain at last. My club hammer, chisel and pointing trowel are going to enjoy the day off.

The great thing about Good Morning is that apart from the word "tractor", we never know what to expect next. I certainly never expected to be taken to task for cutting a path with a bit of a bend. :)
There is obviously a cultural difference going on, with many of you living in a vast country where the shortest distance from point A to B is seen as a virtue to minimise journey time, while I live on a much smaller island where most of our arrow straight roads are reminders of a time when my ancestors were slaves of the Roman Empire. That wavy path must have been a subconscious (and almost plausible ?) expression of freedom. :D

BEF, if your work is mostly programming, can't you do most of it from home and save all that travelling time ? One of the best parts of this pandemic is the way it has revolutionised the attitude to home working. If employer isn't keen, try a few dry coughs and offer him one of your cough sweets.

Wng, we used to have quite a few of those 3 lane highways. Most have changed, too many head on collisions as roads got busier.

Ken, the more stubborn the stump, the more satisfying it is when it's gone ;)

Ron, great exorcist bird pic !

Drew, glad you sold the RV without hassle. With so few possessions left, this must be the biggest clean break of your life !

Bups, hope you enjoy the unexpected break from work.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 48° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 80° with partly cloudy skies. Got all walkways and drive edges. I had not been done in a couple of years. I was beat when I came in. Today is going to be a conserve energy day.
Michigan had lots of suicidelane roads. The one near me is Grand River, Ave/Rd. It runs from Detroit to Muskegon on lake Michigan. Some sections are still 3 lanes. But center lane is only used for left turn lane. I96 run parallels to it today.
At least one of the young Black squirrels made it thru the summer.

Eric, good story on your aiming. Stick to it.

Ken when I had a stubborn stump. I got power washer out and washed all the dirt out. Plan on getting wet and dirty with this plan. When I retired I had 5 weeks of vacation coming. Took all of them. SSA deposit happened on the 4th week. Pension money was deposited on first day of retirement. October 1, 2004.

Buppies, hope results come back negative.

Drew, good news on RV sale.

David, dog pictures are great. Is container going to be a bedroom?

Buckeye, working 10 hours was a normal for me. Those do got to be old by the time I retired after 36 years. I did do consulting for a few year after that. But I picked the jobs I wanted to work.

RNG, another step closer to getting van smog approved.

RS, "The Woman" keeps you busy.

Don, when I order a soft drink at a restaurant it is always with no ice. Iced drinks bother my stomach.

PJ, your right abought serving size. For years my wife and I would get one meal for both of us. Still had enough to take home when we left.

Everyone be healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

Good morning all, 50 going up to 79 and sunny - wacky weather for September , no rain for a while-seems we have 1-2inches or nothing when it does rain

When I was a kid-we had TV dinners once every few months, rarely went out to dinner. And frozen food, was frozen veggies, not the cornucopia of processed crap. My kid complains because all his friends get take out all the time and fast food.

BEF - hope this SIL doesn't keep the drama going, my SIL can be pretty controlling, but she does have some limits so we get along somewhat.
Drew - sounds like RV is good to go. One more check on your checklist
Mostly - Poke is as David Sodamo linked to, some ingredients are different due to not existing here.
David - getting the doors off the container- must of been a bit stressful-glad all went well
Phil - almost there - party time and maybe some fishing during the week!
Buppies - hope the rest of you are not infected - Time to shore up your immune system
Eric - Spent a lot of time in the UK, some great varied country, takes a while to see it all, and I still haven't. Bath is a perfect example of great Roman and British architecture in the same town. Love the pictures of your area, I miss traveling. And I will win over the stump!! :)

My commute pre-covid was 2.5hours each way to mid-town NYC - imagine , I get 5 hours back per day ! but it all seems to be reinvested in keeping my job.

Stay safe and be well.

Good Morning!!!! 65F @ 5:30AM. Mainly sunny. High 88F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
AQI 78 and 241, inside and out. Overnight the wind reverses and runs down canyon, bringing the smoke with it. Yesterday afternoon the southern winds improved things to push AQI into the single digits, like a normal blue sky day. The firefighters are fighting fire with fire, burning lots of ground in a controlled fashion in hopes of starving the three hot spots into submission. There will be smoke in the sky until they can finish, and even then, a southwesterly wind will bring in smoke from the August Complex, which as reached almost 900,000 acres.

Ran a bunch of checks on the van yesterday, but still no smoking gun. I'm going to replace most all the vacuum lines, as several of them are a little on the large side and are not tight where they connect. So far, though, I'm not seeing a signal from the engine management computer that trips the solenoid providing vacuum to the EGR valve, so one of the things being monitored by the EMU isn't getting through. More wire tracing is in my near future. Years ago, a friend gave me a vacuum pump, and it has sat on the shelf unused ever since. Until yesterday, when I pulled it out, dusted it off, and turned it on for the first time. I was rewarded with a pretty good suck, and the ability to use the vacuum gauge on it to check for intake manifold vacuum at the proper places. I also found out why his company was throwing it out: The little in line hand switch is a little balky, so it'll get the DeOxIt treatment today.

While I was dragging my feet, waiting on the smoke to clear yesterday, I digitized a couple of CDs. One was from Jimmy Buffett, and had many tracks off his now out of print first album. All but one track could be found on other albums I already had, and I was able to snag the missing cut from a video someone had posted on YouTube. All of them are made with acoustic instruments, and show his talent for story telling was well established right from the beginning of his recording career. Anyway, made copies of each track on "Down To Earth", edited the meta data appropriately, and now have a home brewed copy of that first album. Just waiting for a smoke free evening on the back patio to properly enjoy it.

From the looks of this morning's news, someone set the campground across the canyon on fire again last night. Several acres got BBQed, crews are still over there mopping up. Less than a mile away, way too close.

Happy Hump Day, folks!!!!

Nice outside this morning...not as cold as last two days.

Weatherman said we will get some hazy skies from the western smoke today, but it will be high altitudes, not near the ground...funny, maybe power of suggestion, but I thought I smelled smoke when I first went outside earlier.

Buppies, hope everyone is okay.

Phil, 13 days is definitely getting to the exciting point.

Eric, you wear any Gore-tex during your rainy spells? Saw the other day that the inventor or Gore-tex, Robert Gore, passed away...invented it by accident, while working on something else...I guess a lot of things work out that way...I think Post-it notes are another example...both products discovered at 3M, by the way. :) I've loved wearing Gore-tex lined boots for many years, but glad there are less expensive alternatives now.

Good morning. It's 69° this morning with 98% humidity and our high should get to 80° this afternoon. Beta has moved on to Louisiana but, gave us a bit over 10" of rain over two days.

Pastures are still squishy so .. tractors will stay parked for another day .. or two.

It's looking like more shop time for today. I need to get chain saw and pole saw ready to get a few more cedar trees taken out. After that some more work putting our 84" rear finish mower back together.

Tomorrow .. if wind stays down .. I'll start lighting off our seven big burn piles. I've already got plenty of firewood, set aside, for our two outdoor fire pits and the chiminea on the east porch.

Drew .. Good news on your RV sale. I agree on it being worth something .. to not put with the "tire kickers".

Eric .. just tell em' the curve is for "windage"

Hope everyone has an excellent "hump day" today.

Prayers to all.
