RNG has your neighborhood been burned over before? I was wondering if these fires can just keep coming back every year.

Do those underground shelters do any good? Seems like it would be nice to have a hole to crawl into when things get bad.

74 going to 84 and more rain. Was soggy yesterday but got a hike in.

Prayers said, RNG. You're brave.

Eric, many of the barn quilts are painted in the style of the old traditional quilt patterns, thus the name.

56 degrees this morning, going for a high of 70 after that cold front came through yesterday. We got a very heavy, but relatively brief, downpour 3 times for a total of a little over an inch of rain. It's been a long time since we had weather this cool.

The ice maker in the refrigerator has died again. We have a Sears service contract, so day before yesterday I called and was on hold for 12 minutes with no one to talk to, so I hung up and went online. The person I talked to there wanted me to change the water filter, which I do regularly anyway, turn off the ice maker, then turn it back on, and wait a day to see if that wouldn't fix it. I had no expectation for that to work, but I followed directions carefully. So yesterday, I tried going online again and their website didn't work. So I got on the phone again, and after 17 minutes on hold a nice young lady answered. I think she was speaking English, but I wouldn't bet on it. But after asking her to repeat what she'd just said many, many times she finally made an appointment for one of their contractors to come see about the ice maker tomorrow. I've always had good luck with Sears employees on service calls, but only twice have they sent a contractor, and in each case, the contractor had no idea what he was doing and accomplished absolutely nothing. But I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best tomorrow.

Good morning! A Fall day at 56˚F cloudy, only heading to the 70s, NICE!!! Winds are from the SW at 3mph, so this will be the coldest morning. A good day to work on the garden root trench IF it's not too muddy.

RNG the airpacks we bought for the VFD were around $7K and only last 45 minutes and had a ton of safety alarms - more for structure firefighting. You would need a good outdoor filtered mask ( that also covers the eyes) and a helmet, which I have never researched. If you can't breath or see you can't fight the fire. Stay safe and shoot some daylight pics if the excitement slacks up some. . .

Good Morning all.

Just read RNG's post and my goosebumps have goosebumps and I was fervently praying for him & his neighbors and the little sprinkler that could.

I've got a ton of friends and family in Oregon and it looks pretty bad up there also.

Logging MUST RESUME PEOPLE!!!!!!

Just WOW...

Makes my piddling little problems look piddling little.

Be well all! It is a Brand New Day & Hope springs eternal.

Well said David

quick trip downtown to mail a letter and then to Lowes.
No Clorox cleaner BUT amazingly they had four little containers of disinfectant wipes left. I grabbed one, no price anywhere
and asked checkout person how much it was. 35 wipes for $2.48. Good deal. Sure haven't seen them in many, many months.
I wonder who is getting all the Clorox cleaner?

heavy drizzle out, humidity feels like 110 percent

Bird, I used to buy all my appliances from Sears, and you would be met by a middle aged guy in a suit who really knew his products. Now you are lucky
to find someone working in the department. Their biggest priority seems to be selling you an extended warranty, which not only pays them a spiff, but seems to be a big part of how they are rated as employees.

Good morning to all! Low temp went to 35, a few icy / sleet / rain showers overnight.... no snow on the ground this morning. Expected high of 53 today.

Rng, I hope you were able to get multiple naps in overnight and there were no surprises. Scary stuff. I hope that the need doesn't arise to put your preparations to a real test... Keep us updated when you can. Stay safe!

Ron, thanks for the flower pic, that one was beautiful! I'll see if ours are toast after the next couple of days. I am relatively certain they will be!

Moss, good luck with the move, sounds like everything is coming together nicely.

Drew, glad you were able to find some sanitizer wipes at a decent price! Out here, it is still in short supply and they are price gouging for sure! 1oz=$6.99.... ridiculous! I saw a pack of 35 of those cheap paper masks the other day...$21.99 ... used to be around/ under $5

Bird, hope they get the icemaker fixed. They are relatively simple to replace... maybe push for that?

ChuckT, my neighbor has had Standard Poodles for the last 20 years that I have known her.... she has two right now, 2 y/o and a 1y/o..... both are super high strung and really active.... she has a 1 acre fenced area for them to run.... and do they ever! .... for hours.....

Not sure what today will bring.... I need to call the vet and get an appointment for Max.... he has an ear infection. We want to get ahead of it before it gets bad..... not sure if he can get in today or not.

Everyone have a great day! Rng, stay out of harms way!

Oh, forgot to mention.... the snow and colt temps we got broke two records.... both the coldest ever on record for Sept 9th, and the earliest snow recorded, the old record was Sept 17th.

It is all my fault.... I purchased all those pellets for the stove last weekend..... I had to start using them already....Had to fired up the stove yesterday .....

70°F and cloudy this morning with some light fog, going up to 84° today.

Mostly_, I thought I had some good sounds coming out of that thing before. Sounded good to my ear when played alone. Unfortunately, it didn't sit well in a mix with other instruments and vocals. So, I went back and basically undid the adjustments I made reducing the higher frequencies, and put them back in. Hoping they'll sound less muddy now, and have a little more sparkle up top. I'll find out when I record some more guitar tracks tonight. This digital modeling stuff is turning out to be a lot of work, at least up front anyway.

Still hoping for the best for you, RNG. Stay safe.

My Wife still makes quilts the old-fashioned way, Eric ... well, old-fashioned in terms of the modern sewing machine age, that is. She does finish them off by closing the borders sewing by hand. I suspect she'd scalp me if I were to hang one on the barn.

Bird, I grew up with appliances from Sears. We pretty much had Kenmore everything. We rarely had problems with their stuff, and when we did it was resolved quickly. My Wife used to work at Sears back in the late '80s as well. However, when time came to replace our kitchen appliances during the remodel a few years ago, we decided not to go that route this time. The situation with their uncertain future scared us off. We had little doubt we would get good appliances, but were worried about the possibility of poor or no support when that became necessary. So, we went elsewhere. Hope you can get your issue resolved with little or no headache.

Hope Jay is well.
