Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 4:45AM. A mix of clouds and sun. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 101F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
We'll be under a Fire Watch starting tomorrow at 11AM, lasting through Tuesday at the same time. More dry lightning headed our way. Several fires to the southwest are now nearing the 300,000 acre mark, with very low levels of containment.

This is what passed for "sunny skies" from yesterday's forecast. I think the weather people are finally catching up to the idea that the smoke isn't going away anytime soon.

I think Ron's onto something with his walking idea, Drew. It's low stress, easy to social distance, and you have some beautiful places to go near you.

I wonder if I ever talked as fast, or mumbled as much, as some of the youngsters I've dealt with in the past few months. Perhaps as products of the computer age, they never learned good verbal communication skills. Or my hearing isn't what it used to be?

That doesn't sound like healthy history coming your way, Don.

You can always put a lighter load on a pair of 10,000 pound axles, MFW. Doesn't work so good the other way around, though, if you end up with 7,000 pound ones.

Is the age cutoff for the senior flu shots still 65?

Hate to break it to your neighbor, Ted, but I don't think there's any way to keep implements from getting scratched. That's why you keep extra paint on hand...:D

Glad to hear your work weeks are getting back to normal, Paul. Somebody needs to keep working if I'm gonna start my Social Security next year!

Almost a year ago, I received an air quality monitor from the PurpleAir people, but until yesterday it's been sitting on a shelf. I was moving some cameras around on the pump house anyway yesterday, so I took a few minutes to install it as well. All it needed was an Ethernet cable, a spot under the eves outside, and a place to plug it into 120VAC. Took all of ten minutes to set it up and get it registered, and now I know I have very unhealthy air around me. Most of yesterday is was around 240, and anything over 200 is considered unhealthy for everyone for more than an hour. Thank goodness for all those N95 masks I picked up during the Camp Fire. They really do make a difference!

Broke down and ordered a new box of Ethernet cable, shielded this time, and sold by the same folks that all the rest of the network equipment came from. Also got the shielded RJ45 connectors for the ends. And while I was at it, another network camera to cover the tractor yard. Didn't get up the nerve to go up on the roof and mount the other camera, though. I'm gonna wait on the new cable for that.

The propane conversion kit for the Honda generator also showed up yesterday. I'd like to use the motorcycle lift to work on it, but it's still sitting on the front porch. So today I think I'll pull a bunch of stuff out of the garage and rearrange it so the chip making machines are parked away from the solar power components, and there's room again for the lift. I also need to move the pallet of firewood up near the overhead door since I can't get the M62 won't fit under that door. That should keep me busy for the rest of the weekend.

Hope everyone enjoys theirs!

made a quick trip downtown to local car wash, it did a nice job for 12 bucks but what I really wanted was their big vacuum.
Like going to the beach am tracking a lot of sand into car and my cordless vacuum just isn't strong enough or have the right tip to get into
the crevasses. That's all done, place was fairly busy, not only due to Sat morning but fair weather forecast so folks know if they wash their car it will stay
clean for awhile. Big signs near vacuums No Loud Music

Ron, between my hearing loss and the Southern drawl I often have to ask folks to repeat themselves.

Good morning to all! Again, no weather changes, hot, dry, no rain.... morning is at least cool in the mid to upper 50's. By noon it should be around 92.

Bruce, to answer your question, yes, the neighbor has the next smaller blue LS tractor. He likes how all my implements color match, so he is following suite.

Drew, it is amazing how sand builds up in the cars just from getting in and out.... I remember going to the "shore" for a weekend, and bringing back a pound of sand to Bucks Co.... even though we would shake things out.

Ron, definitely a nice morning pic. The smoke in the air here lately has been providing colorful sunsets... last evening the colors stretched across almost the entire sky from west to east and south... strange that only north of us did not have any color.

Drew, maybe taking a couple short trips in the RV will do YOU and the RV some good....

RNG, I don't worry about scratches on the tractor or implements, I am of the same school... that is what paint is for. My neighbor is terrified of putting a scratch on the tractor... it is still "new".

I did not get to make any shelves yesterday..... I did not realize that the requested shelves were for the new blank wall space after "unstacking" the stacked washer and dryer. All the electric hookups, dryer vent, and water / drain box were all installed during construction specifically for a stacked combo.
After 2 trips to the hardware store, got them all situated and hooked back up. I am not happy with the locations of the plugs, but it is what it is....

Today will be shelf making day in the shop. I also ordered the plasma cutter yesterday, should be here in a week. T&T will be on hold for a little bit until I really need it (after land plane is built).

Everyone enjoy the day and the weekend!

Don, glad you got some rain. That's too much lightning, though.

Does anyone know if we "flattened the curve?" I never hear that term anymore.

The first lightning right before the rain cause a 30 second power outage in the house and the Tempest weather station relies on the wifi signal. I noticed the base light was red when the power came back on and I un-pluged it and re-pluged it to reset it and the light turned green and it started recording the amount of rain. However my stuck in the ground rain gauge measured 1/2" more than the weather station, I must have missed the first 1/2 " of rain. Total 1.3" from the ground gauge and .83" recored on the Tempest weather station. Hmmmm.

Our county has not mention the flattened curve either they have move the goal post to:
"Incidence rate is the rate of new infections per 100,000 population. The target is to have fewer than 1.1 new case per 100,000 per day."

Our County’s average incidence rate* for the past week is 8.71, above the target of fewer than 1.1.

Does anyone know their county's Covid incidence rate or is this something our county just made up?

74F and sunny @ 10:00, high for the day predicted to hit 89F, 10% chance of precipitation ... lots of sun.

Got another 31 hosta sets planted yesterday for a two day total of 54 ... first bucket finished, still some remaining in the second bucket, and a whole lot more over in the shady area in dug clumps.

Had to share this ... as it was something I didn't even consider.

Notice the "pruned" tops ...:

IMG_6031 copy.jpg

Evidently ... somebody ... though I had set out a breakfast/lunch/dinner bucket ...

If that was all, it wouldn't have been too bad (they'll grow back) ... but it seems that they went through and browsed on the ones I had planted, pulling them up from the ground ... so I had to go back and replant a bunch and stick them back in their holes, re-water, etc. ...

Next time I went up to the house, I dug out the Bonide "Shot-Gun" Deer and Rabbit Repellent (with Putrescent Egg Solids, Capsaicin, and Garlic ...) and mixed up a batch in a little hand sprayer. The Woman sprayed them all after dinner last night. Haven't been out there yet this morning to see if that kept them away but I'm hopeful ...

Plans for the day (in no particular order):

Water area around catch basin.

Clean up dirt on lawn.

Check blueberries to see if they need watered.

Water unplanted hosta.

Plant remaining hosta in second bucket.

Haul more screened topsoil down for planting bed I'm currently working on southeast of house.

Weed (unplanted) planting bed I created last year northwest of house in preparation for more transplanting.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

made a quick trip downtown to local car wash, it did a nice job for 12 bucks but what I really wanted was their big vacuum.

Buc-ee's in Denton, TX has the biggest most elaborate, most effective drive through car wash that I've ever seen. And you decide whether you want the $9, $12, or $16 car wash. And no matter which you select, the vacuum is included. And of course, they have 3 different types of hoses, and more vacuum stalls than I've ever seen anywhere else.

Ron,

Thanks for the heads up ...

Great sunrise ...

Thank you (and all the other GM'ers) for the beautiful pics ... look forward to them every morning.

So far behind on replies I may never catch up ...

Good morning. It was 74° here and very overcast here this morning. I guess Don’s rain is heading our way. We can sure use it. Our high is forecast for only 90° today .. a nice break from our recent heat.

I did get about 2 acres mowed around the house, with the ZT, late yesterday afternoon. I’ll cut most of the rest of our 9 acre “yard” with the LS and RFM.

Today’s plan is weather dependent. I may try to make a pass along both sides of fence lines with the ZT so .. I don’t have to be so careful with the rear finish mower.

If it rains .. I’ll probably use the rolling ladder to pressure wash the overhead door on one end of the shop. It’s 16’ wide and 14’ high. The LED security lights, on both ends of the shop, attract bugs and they make a mess on the O/H doors. The top step of the rolling ladder is about 9’6” high so .. way better / safer than step or extension ladders. The shop roofline extends about 12’ beyond the end doors so .. I’d be under roof, cleaning the O/H door.

Ordered one of these last week.

Amazon.com: Forester Chainsaw Tooth 9" Brush Blade with 3/16" Round File 2 Piece Bundle: Garden & Outdoor

I’m hoping it will be of benefit in clearing yaupon.

I’ve got two gas trimmers .. an Echo SRM261T and a newer Echo STM280. I planned on putting the brush blade on the older SRM261T .. which starts and runs fine.

The Forrester blade has a 1” mounting hole and a bushing that reduces it to 20 mm.

I removed the string trimmer head and determined, to mount the brush blade, I’d need to buy and adapter kit. Oops!

Best price I’ve found is at Home Depot so .. I’ll pick one up in Katy on Tuesday.

Hope everyone has a restful weekend.

Prayers to all.

75, low was 69, .23” of rain this morning. Drove up to Laurel De with Ellen this morning to visit her dad. Gonna put some leg quarters in the slow cooker, not sure what else is happening today.
Ellen got her report from the polyps they removed a couple of weeks ago, all clear.
Gonna get started, have a good day.

Be safe
Have a great day
