Yet more data driven analysis of the CoVid-19 outbreak, with a heavy dose of criticism for shelter-in-place and school/business closures.

But like other analysis, this one frequently bases conclusions on Chinese data while at the same time ignoring the lack of transparency behind such data. How good are conclusions made that are based on uncertain data?

I agree. I read that article a couple of times, and have been thinking about the way the "raw" data was selectively collected and manipulated and interpreted to better meet the authors' desired outcome conclusions.

Only time will tell. :(

I took enough statistics and experimental design courses in college and grad school(s) to learn how to play with numbers.

Drew- Thanks for asking. I am still gimping around, but gimping "better." It's the old d@mned if you do and d@mned if you do not situation. I felt the walk up the hill and back this AM and am now feeling this PM's walk around the lower field. There is still a patch of snow. Brogen had the best of worlds today. A good roll is some unknown smell in the woods this AM, the dump run treats, and a couple of rolls in leaves and grass, something putrid, and a nice finish with the ice/snowpack during the afternoon walk.

Another day for numbing libations at Happy Hour;)

Good morning. It's 50° here with a moderate north wind. High is to be around 60° this afternoon and more rain is expected this afternoon. We got 1 3/4" of much needed rain yesterday. This cool weather will be short lived as well be back in the 80's next week and forecast 90° here next Thursday.

I had to go take care of a couple of things at our Richmond home yesterday morning so when I left I decided to grab a few things at the Sam's Club about a mile from our house on my way back to the ranch. Sam's like many other stores has changed their open hours. Previously, business members only from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. many times I was the first customer in the store and saw nobody except Sam's Associates then out the door by 7:30 latest. Now ... they open at 9 a.m. with hundreds of people lined up outside. I did a few other errands then .. went in about 9:30 a.m. there were lines everywhere, shelves cleaned out, people with 2-3 carts full. Luckily .. the few items I wanted were still available. Sam's has a great feature called "Scan & Go"... as you grab your items you use your phone camera to scan the item bar codes .. then "checkout" on your phone. As I sailed by the long checkout lines, toward the door, I heard several of the 3 cart ninnies say things like "where are you going?" Or "Get to the back of the Line!" I just smiled and cruised to the door.

Saw this online this morning. I wish more stores would adopt this.

Some dark humor?

Everyone stay safe and well.

Prayers to all.

I’ve been using scan and go since it became available 4-5 years ago, I love it. Had problems at first with the door attendant reading the receipt but not in a long time.

The writer on the article had a bias going on IMO.

One chart that showed the rate of new cases doubled every 2-3 days is the most important one. He tried to use the cases per millions....which has no value at this point in preventing the spread. Bogus. There are too many outliers to base assumptions on stuff. Especially about having a 1-5% chance of getting the disease in an encounter. Which may be somewhat true or not. Also, the countries that are considered to be the best at flattening the curve of new cases, HAD THE HARSHEST/ MOST STRICT rules about sheltering in place (S. Korea, Japan, China). I saw video of the Chinese police beating a man who ventured out.

Watch MedCram on youtube. Go back and start watching his videos from when he first started vlogging on Covid.

Still, in my somewhat learned position, I still believe that an infected person coughing and sneezing disperses micro droplets in the air that can easily exceed 6 feet. They don't disperse quickly. I'll say it again, Think of Fog. Fog is microdroplets. It takes it a while to disperse...

Found this neat (but old) video of the Colchester Lathe factory in the UK. In this video, they are making the older style series of lathes. But still interesting.

I'm not sure what all they still manufacture in the UK as far as machine tools goes.

Colchester Lathes Company - YouTube

Colchester changed the design after this series, for the easier rpm changes, which the newer is my favorite designed manual lathe. We have a copy made in Taiwan and sold by Lagun (spain) as an "American Turnmaster". We have the 15-50 model. I can't give it the kudos that I would give to the actual Colchester lathes I've ran in my lifetime. Seeing the video explains why. Gamet bearings is just one thing, a big thing, but there were so many more quality checks to be made.

Pip Pip, cheerio my lads. :)

Italy is having a terrible time right now, hospitals are overloaded. I read there's a recall, I think in England, of a large number of retired doctors
and nurses.

at the moment I am quite glad I live alone at the end of a long lane...

headed downstairs to barbecue something, know I want a baked potato, since I have a 5 pound bag.
Takes me a while to get through that bag.
Have light sour cream in the fridge destined for those potatoes. Somewhat healthier than butter.
Of course a big scoop of spicy chili would be even better.
