The wind was calm and the sun warm yesterday in the Sacramento River Delta, perfect for a campout. It was also nice to see a couple dozen other Vanagon campers, and a few of the older air cooled buses, too. Only one fellow rode a motorcycle, an air cooled BMW similar to my touring bike. We're all gettin' older. The highlight of the day, though, was the pot luck dinner. Lots of good cooks in this group. I'm not one of them; I stopped in at Costco on the way down and picked up a party platter of croissant sandwiches. For some reason I was the only one to eat one at dinner, probably because there were just too many other wonderful choices. But by bed time, the platter was empty. Good to see old friends and make some new ones for sure.
The clouds came in and the winds picked up by morning, and the sky was blood red as the sun approached the horizon under a deck of black clouds. Very dramatic. But the wind kept the fog away, which usually has everything just dripping, inside and out of the tent. I'm happy to report that the van stayed dry and comfortable inside, and the same mat and sleeping bag I use in a tent worked just fine in the van. And having a full sized pillow was a little slice of :cloud9:.
I found a gal selling one of the Costco inversion tables, the one with the heating pad and massager, for half price, so I made arrangements to pick it up this morning. It looked pretty much brand new, as neither her or her husband could tolerate being upside down. I set it up when I got home, set the balance point so it was easy to get to and back up from the "easy" 20° incline position, then advanced the setting to 40°, set the heat/massage timer for 5 minutes, and tried it out. The buzzing felt good, but the small of my back was arched up above the pad and didn't get much of either the vibration or the heat, but my neck and shoulders enjoyed it. I didn't experience the popping some of my friends found to be such a relief, but I want to take it easy and work up to that. My back was sore when I got up this morning, and even more so after the drive, and that first five minute helped but wasn't a cure all. I'll go for another five minute round before dinner, and see how that goes.
