Good morning!!!!

36°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 70° today.

Spent much of Saturday morning running errands for The Wife, then the afternoon doing little things around the house for her.

Sunday was outside day. Almost a year later, I finally put up the lattice around the deck. It definitely looks better. Got most of the grass mowed after that, at least until I ran out of daylight.

No work on the guitar this weekend. It occurred to me that I neglected to shield the electronics cavities with copper tape, so no point soldering everything up just yet. Couldn't find any locally, so I'm awaiting an Amazon shipment on Tuesday.

Good to see you're back, Irv. We passed 100k posts while you were away. This thread remains my favorite place on the internet.

I have those tire sensor on my Kia Soul, Bird, and yeah, they drive me nuts when the temperature drops.

Following Don's lead, it's probably best for me not to comment on the whole Columbus Day thing, at least not in this thread.

that looks really nice Paul.

truck fixed, 360 bucks later for new cruise control brain, despite at least three complaints during warranty, never malfunctioned at dealer.
Like it knew it was going in....today same thing, but they found multiple stored codes for cruise control problems, so time to replace the unit.
They also charged me 37 bucks to fix the radio, which Ram caused.....hmmmm.

then a wasted trip to the bank, closed Columbus day.

sun is coming out, should warm things up.

Eric, I have several Coast flashlights, very well made, remind me of Streamlights for half the cost.

Now that Drew mentions it, I have a Coast light as well, but mine's a headband mounted LED. The brightness and focus are adjustable, and three rechargeable AA batteries last about 8 hours. Compared to some others I looked at, it was very reasonably priced at about $30, and got good reviews on Amazon. It also came in handy several times during the recent blackouts.

Does anyone celebrate Columbus Day? It's an official holiday, but I don't know of anything special done, or anyone who even thinks about it being a holiday EXCEPT the banks and post office have a day off.

There used to be a BMW motorcycle club in San Diego, Bird, that celebrated Columbus day by hosting a rally we would camp at for two nights. The ride down and back usually followed the coast, and therefore had great views and roads. First time I ever lost a wallet was on one of those rides. A yellow jacket flew down the back of my collar, and in the haste of getting that jacket off the wallet got shaken out of a pocket. I got it back a couple weeks later in the mail, less about a hundred bux in cash. The person that found it was only partly a thief, I guess they figured. By that time, I'd already cancelled all the credit cards and found a better wallet. That was fifteen or so years ago, that club disbanded, and now I'm retired, but Columbus day is still about Columbus, and the vision and bravery it took in those days to launch small boats into the great unknown in hopes of finding fortune. Unfortunately, certain people have tried to stain that accomplishment with PC beliefs founded on a distorted view of history.

RNG, does California still celebrate today?

Apparently not. There are three holidays on the list that were never celebrated anywhere when I was a kid, and one of them is just a convenience so that folks can have a four day weekend. Ol' Chris deserves better than that, I think!:censored:

Interesting how Holiday observations have changed over the years and how history books are being rewritten to accommodate different perspectives then 20-50 years ago.

Interesting? Don't get me going...:mad::muttering:

I suppose next they'll be renaming all those towns and cities that were named after Columbus.

Shades of 1984.

California becomes the first state to ban animal fur products - CNN

oh dear RNG, now you can't buy that fur hat you wanted.

everything comes first to California, my Father used to tell me it was the land of fruits and nuts. Which it is of course...

They had already banned the import of fur and horns from big game animals, Drew, and people throw paint at you if you try wearing a nice mink coat to a fancy restaurant.

The governor signed almost a dozen anti-gun laws a couple days ago as well. Most are clearly unconstitutional, and millions will be wasted getting them repealed. But if his recall is successful, and a better replacement is found, perhaps all that money can be saved with the stroke of a pen. Now what do you think are the chances of that?

Those chances are improving. It's just been found that money from a new gas and license tax is being diverted to "green" projects instead of improving the roads, as had been promised. All done with a single stroke of the governors pen, no legislator input needed.

Good Morning!!!! 60F @ 8:30AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 82F. Winds light and variable.

So much for the warranty. Kinda makes you wanna rush right out and trade your old Dodge truck in on a brand new one, eh Drew? NOT!

New patio and landscape looks great, Paul. How do you keep the weeds out of the rock garden?

Another nice ride yesterday, and the valve clearances didn't change after the morning re-torque, so I think it's good for another 5K miles. And then that's just a clearance check, no more torquing needed unless the heads have to come off for some reason.

More color showing in the canyon, maybe because half the trip was spent riding into the sun, and the leaves are so much brighter with the light shining through them. Traded tequila for some help tarping over the firewood pallets, and surprise, surprise, my body shop neighbor brought down the mixer.:licking:

Leaving Thursday for a camp out at the top of a mountain Friday and Saturday, and will take the Golden Chain Highway (CA49) to its southern most point, where I'll motel it for the first night. Packing my heaviest sleeping bag and a liner; at 8200' it'll probably be frosty in the morning.

Hope everyone's Monday gets off to a great start. Happy Columbus Day!

Busy weekend.. oldest daughter and her 3 littles (3/2/1 yrs old) visited. Daughter works with high school marching band and they had a competition locally. We took care of the 3 littles while she worked. I over did it on Friday and was not feeling well until noon time, with the 5yr that lives with us and the 3 visiting, it was busy.. We have some Powerwheels (couple of jeeps, quad, dune racer) and they kept 2-3 of them going until the batteries were done (we have 4 good batteries), charged the batteries so they could play some more before heading home Sunday.

We were able to visit both my wife's Dad and my Dad with our visitors, both visits went well.. although short (3 littles want to play, not sit still). Found out my Dad sold his travel trailer and side by side (he turns 89 next month and it was good to hear he was done towing).

Stay safe, prayers for those in need.
