Good Law ?

Nope. I have one family out where I live who's teenage child is "home-schooled" (i.e.., the kid stopped going to school three years ago and has been retained at 8th grade level since then). His love in life is hunting/fishing - on my property illegally, neighbors property illegally, shooting across the entrance road, - well you get the picture.

His adult supervision is before 7 am when his parents go to work, and after 6 pm, when they get home. His "home-schooling" is fishing on the lake - not part of his parents property, shooting stuff off his parents 1-2 acre property, and generally just wandering around the neighborhood. The one time I called the police on him, the Deputies first comment was "What, you again?" Basically he spends his day practicing to be a welfare recipient (or worse).

If kids (and their alleged parents), aren't responsible enough to get their butts into a classroom, what chance is there that the parents will really supervise them with a weapon. I can personally tell you carrying weapons on their property is a really bad idea. My wife had a round fired over her and my horses heads by Mr. Home-school while he was standing on his property. He was squirrel hunting...

Thereis no point in needing the law IMO.

IF parents want to allow (an teach) their kids about guns and get them involved, And allow them to have one, then the parent is just gonna buy the gun for them.

The law really does nothing other than whos name the gun gets to be in.

I have had my own handgun since I was 10yrs old. There is no law in my state that restricts a parent from giving a gun to their child. The Alabama law puts the responsibility on the parent where it belongs.

Not all children are as uneducated as the children in the big cities. Children can behave responsibly at an early age if they are taught. We had parents when we grew up and from day one safety around equipment, tools and yes firearms were drilled in. Gun safety was taught in junior high and we had a rod and gun club in the school.
