A good friend if mine is getting rid of some extra equipment he has. He is selling this 8ft (i think) JD Van Brunt grain drill. I glanced over it the other day and plan on looking at it much better in a few days when i have time. Seed box is fine. Fertilizer box has some rust in it. Appeared to be only surface rust. One tire is dry rotted and one of the seeds drops is gone. I could replace with some hose. Am told it works fine. Selling for $700.

Prices are all over the place for these things when i search them, but it seems like a fair price for the most part.

Where does one get parts for these machines this old. Are there universal parts sold at JD dealers?

I want to replace the tire and make sure it works. Should I spray wd40 on the parts that will be moving prior to moving this old girl? Its been sitting under a barn for the past 7 years and used a few times.

It’s got a horseshoe welded on it. I’m not sure if thats good or bad lol.

Looks like a nice find. Rust in a fertilizer compartment is no surprise. Surprise will be only surface rust.
Match tire size or replace both, ad tire size will effect consistent depth of planting from side to side.
Sorry I have no clue as to finding parts other than building your own. Some creative thinking can be a ‘drill saver’.
As for wd40–it will not hurt. I would grease all fittings I could find as well as repack wheel beatings prior to use. I would probably move it from where it is to a trailer even to move 1/2 mile than risk damaging things that could be saved if cleaned and greased.

If it is not frozen up and can be used even gingerly, $700 is a fair price. $500 would be buddy deal!
