I got the perfect job today. A guy called me to level out his back yard. He said it looked pretty bad. I got there and it was a large load of topsoil with some trash thrown on top with grass growing wild. Took about ten minutes to clean up the trash. The rest was about as good as it gets. I turned out great and was super easy. A really good way to spend a morning, especially when you get paid for it. He was so happy, he got me to till a small garden plot in the middle of his new back yard.

Sounds like a good day!

What did you spread the dirt with? Did you just use the bucket or do you have a box blade or rake?

I used a boxblade for most, but I have a toothbar on the loader and it really helped on this job.

I have the same exact type pf job lined up also. I keep looking at my implements trying to decide which to take, toothbar for sure, boxblade and prob my rake also. Was just debating to use the backhoe to break up most of it, its 50 tons of clay dirt that has sat for about 2 yrs here in Pa.

My yard has places in it that are very rough, I just bounce everywhere when I mow it. I have thought about tilling it up and then using a box blade to smooth it out because it is also uneven. I don't have a BB yet though.

Since you guys have done this, do you have any recommendations? Should I till it up first? Will the BB cover over my tractor tracks when I go back over it with the BB? Or, would a rake work better?

I love my rusty old boxblade, I have had it for 20 years and with my 8N I landscaped 7 acres of bean field into a somewhat smooth yard.
Time and external forces have caused some ruts and silting (from a neighbors field) so that is one of my main justifications for buying a new tractor since I sold the 8N 5 years ago, so I will be tearing up a lot of it and hopefully I will be able to do it all over again with the FEL and BB
