My kids, being outdoor types who don't watch much TV, wanted to come to the field behind my shop today to ride go-carts. Typical Ohio forecast was for scattered showers...........Well........They scattered allright !!! Tom

I noticed that you have 3 boys and a girl.... not 3 boys and a Tom Girl /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif She is the only one without mud on her. Either she knew how to stay out of the mud or was smart enough to wait for a drier day to ride.. Cute kids and it is good to see them having fun like that. When I was about their age, I built a motorized cart by using the deck and engine from a old Toro power mower that I had cut the blades off of. Had I left the blades on, I could have cut the grass while I rode. Didn't go very fast, but it was still fun to ride. Might say that was one of the first slow go carts..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can still remember to this day, the wrapping of the starter rope around the flywheel pulley and trying to start that monster. It was later replaced with a gasoline washing machine motor that had a kick starter. Much more pleasant. In those days, a tank of gasoline would last all day... that was because you spent most of the day trying to get it started. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Junkman.......I bought my first cart off a school friend when I was about 12 years old. Cost all of 10 bucks. It was a track rabbit brand, set up so you could run 2 motors ( but it came with none)......A friends dad brought home a briggs cast iron 10 horse off a old mower at work..........It had the same wrap the rope on the flywheel method of starting you described. We couldn't afford a centrifical clutch...( an unheard of $25 at that time) so we used a belt and pulley on the motor for direct drive. Put it on blocks to start it, got on and had my friend shove it off the blocks...........Did a lot of donuts in the high school parking lot..........it was a conveinent 1/4 mile from my house. That briggs would smoke the tires if you got it sliding in a turn.........really too much motor but the price was right !! No seat belts or roll bar either !!

Now that looks like fun! Closest I get to a go cart at my age is a golf cart, but I still wind up in the mud, sand, and woods alot! I want one of those monster golf carts with the big wheels etc. but the wife mentions the bota and that is the end of discussion.

Thomas, I came thru Strasburg the other day on my way to Mt. Eaton. I was kinda looking for your business but I really didn't know what I was looking for. Are you located right off of the main highway thru town?
