Good big oil filter wrench?

There is obviously a spanner wrench made just for that filter. Just where to get one is another matter.

I've made my own spanner wrenches when necessary. Adjustable ones are also available.

You just cant beat the oil filter pliers from Harbor Freight. I last used them on my lawnmower HST Filter. A band type wouldn't go around due to the way the transaxle casting was made which basically only left the bottom 2/3 of the filter accessible. The HF pliers worker perfect for loosening it up. I cant remember how much I paid for them but I think less than $10.

I will add my endorsement of filter pliers, they will however reduce the filter to scrap if it is stubborn

I have this one from NAPA, a little pricey, but it will get any filter off, use it with a breaker bar

Yep. It was painted in place. You can see where the paint sheared.
